MSC/VLR

2.3 General
The ISDN-E Primary Rate Access provides an interface for ISDN connections to the MSC/VLR. The PRA interface consists of 30 channel PCM (B-channels) transmission facilities controlled by a single D-channel carrying the ISDN Primary Rate signalling protocol. By the introduction of the PRA, mobile operators can approach the corporate market by connecting PBXs to the MSC. Depending on the network situation, the operator will be able to by-pass the PSTN/ISDN and offer a direct connection for lucrative corporate customers.

Figure 1

PRA Interfaces

ISDN-E PRA can be connected to the MSC in three different ways, see figure 1: via Line Switch Modules (LSM) to the MSC. This solution is designed for the BYB 202 building practice. This type of connection is described in the document 140/19046-FAD 104 08 Uen. via an Access Network node over the V5.2-ML interface. This solution offers a direct connection to the Group Switch and is designed for the BYB 501 building practice. The V5-GS is introduced in CSS R8.0 and is described in the document 175/19046-FAD 104 08 Uen. directly to the Group Switch via ETC5. The GS-PRA is designed for the BYB 501 building practice. The GS-PRA is introduced in CSS R8.0. This document describes the GS-PRA connection.

It is possible for all connection variants to co-exist in the same node. If V5-GS or GS-PRA is implemented in the BYB 202 structure, adaptation of DL3 to DL2 group switch interface is required as well as adaptation of serial to parallel RP-bus towards the CP. This is done through additional hardware.

2.4 Technical Solution

The PRA feature has been enhanced to provide an ISDN-PRA (30B+D) interface to the network with direct connection to the Group Switch. The Group Switch connected PRA is designed for the BYB 501 building practice. GS-PRA is connected to the node via the GDM-H magazine. The D-channels from each PRA are connected transparently through the GS to an RPD or an RPG. The signalling channels are connected to a signalling terminal, which is a TRH board connected to the GS and controlled by the RPD (BYB202) or an RPG2 (BYB501). It is possible to terminate the D-channels for both GS-PRA and LSM-PRA in the same RPG2. Different combinations of GDM equipment for PRA use are possible, for example, one GDM with 14 ETC5s and one RPG2, see figure 2. In one RPG2, it is possible to terminate up to 16 D-channels; that is 16 PRAs. Note - The number of PRA Dchannels is reduced from the theoretical value 31 to 16 for RPD /RPG capacity reasons.

Figure 2

GS-PRA Hardware

The enhancement enables the operator to connect PBXs with high traffic capacity. This solution is more economical and easier to maintain than the LSM-connected PRA. The Operator can reconfigure the switch without ordering new LSM hardware. The BYB 501 results in a reduction of footprint and lower power consumption.

3 Data Transcript Impacts- MSC

3.1 General
The following data transcript includes necessary commands to define Group Switch connected PRA in BYB501. ISDN number types and supplementary services are explained in document 141/19046-FAD 10408 in the DT Infomodel. Complete Delta DT for GS-PRA and V5-GS, ISDN number series and supplementary services can be seen in document 178/19046-FAD 10408.

3.9 Subfile 70012 - Access Network

Definition of Generic Access Manager. Command GNACI connects the signalling channels with the same type of generic access (PRAE) to an access group. From the pool of signalling terminals (SNT=STPRAE-0, -1, -2, -3) GAM fetches a signalling terminal SNT to connect it to an AG in order to handle the signalling traffic. STs left in a pool are Stand-by terminals that can be connected to an AG if a fault has occurred in a ST. If redundancy is required, the number of AGs (SAE 500 GAMCORD) must be less than the number of STs connected RPs. It is possible to connect up to 31 signalling channel devices to the same access group, a maximum of 16 is recommended. Example 8 MML command definitions
