Marketing
On renégocie des prix avec Campus Print, ils n'ont pas vraiment changé pendant les
deux dernières années et on tente aussi d'adapter les choix pour mieux servir les
étudiants d'abord, selon ce qui a été utilisé le plus. On a aussi une nouvelle interface qui
est beaucoup plus conviviale. Jetez-y un coup d'oeil! www.campusprint.feuo.ca
Jeux d'hiver de la FÉUO
Une grande vague de promotion a été faite pour les Jeux d'hiver de la FÉUO! On a
commencé à zéro cette année. Et nous avons quand même eu une très bonne
participation, lots of good feedback from students and I made some of them swear they
wouls participate again next year. I was Teams Coordinator for the last 2 weeks, it was
great, and the Scavenger Hunt we got the teams to participate in was a great way for us
to promote the SFUO directly to 200 very excited students.
Clubs translation
On commence enfin à offrir un service de traduction au clubs, qui sera adapté selon la
demande, si vous faites partie d'un Club, écrivez à traduction.clubs@feuo.ca
(translation.clubs).
CHUO
Pour vous garder au courant, CHUO ré-évaluent la qualité de leur espace qui n'est
vraiment pas idéal, et de leur équipement, plutôt vieux, tout en gardant en tête qu'ils
pourraient déménager dans le futur centre étudiant.
Zoom Productions
Zoom Productions did their 2nd Quick Flick event last weekend with brand new teams
and made videos with volunteers and participants. Le Centre de bilinguisme travaille
très fort sur la Semaine de la francophonie et a toujours des demandes pour les groupes
de discussions.
Campaigns
There's a lot more campaigns this semester, voted on by the open campaigns
committee, see more about it in the VP University Affairs update. A lot of promo,
tabling, and class presentations are going into this now, and will be done this month, to

support the groups running these campaigns, like Plastic Bag Free Campus,
International Development Week, etc.
Partnership with IDW

En parlant de la semaine du développement international, j'ai travaillé avec l'équipe à
produire des pamphlets avec l'horaire, à commander des t-shirts équitable et organiques
à travers la Fédération canadienne des étudiantes et étudiants (FCÉÉ), c'est notre façon
de contribuer IDW, and it's starting tomorrow, they have great guest speakers and
events!
Action Côte de Sable

Voici une mise-à-jour rapide des rencontres avec Action Sandy Hill, depuis le début de
mon mandat: En gros, ils travaillent avec l'université d'Ottawa, la Ville et la CCN pour
décider de ce qui arrivera à l'espace au coin de Nicholas-Mann. Quatre plans ont été
suggérés, l'U d'O voudrait un stade.
Website
As soon as all content is revised and proofread the new website will be launched, I
know it's taking time, but we'd rather do it slowly and well, than doing it too fast and
messing up!
Emails Privacy
Also all students were informed about the list serve of the SFUO being a private list
that we did not and will not share with anyone. It is used for SFUO purposes only, to
inform SFUO members of events, campaigns, services and initiatives.

Campagnes et Partenariats
- Le Mois de l’histoire des Noirs: Cette année je me suis engage activement dans le
comité du Mois de l’histoire des Noirs (en guise de rappel aux membres du CA,
aujourd’hui est le premier jour du Mois de l’histoire des Noirs). Cette année nous avons
réussis à rassembler tous les clubs étudiants qui représentent spécifiquement les
communautés noires varies. Ensemble, nous avons organisés une série d’événements
pour la durée du mois.
- Semaine du développement international: La FÉUO a supporté financièrement cette
initiative et travail de concert avec le comité sur l’organisation des événements,
particulièrement en ce qui a trait à l’atelier de fin de semaine.
- Semaine internationale: Cette semaine nous a donné une merveilleuse opportunité de
promouvoir deux de nous campagnes – OHIP pour les étudiants internationaux ainsi
que la campagne des Étudiant.e.s uni.e.s contre le racisme.
- Étudiant.e.s uni.e.s contre le racisme: cette initiative, initiée par la FCÉÉ-Ontarienne, a
été lancée. Tous les étudiants ont reçus un courriel les invitants à participer à la

première rencontre.
CRESAC
- L’utilisation de ce service continue d’augmenter chez les étudiants. CRESAC ont
maintenant près de 6 cas par jour.
CEHR
- L’espace positif pour les étudiants en résidence se déroule présentement.
- Le travail pour le symposium de Diversité et d’accessibilité est débuté. Les inscriptions
sont ouvertes et plusieurs gens se sont déjà inscrits.
CFS-Ontario
- Comme vous le savez, il y a eu une rencontre les 22-25 janvier.
- Les sujets abordés ont été: les prochaines étapes pour la campagne Baissez les frais,
Étudiant.e.s uni.e.s contre le racisme et une journée d’action prospective pour tous les
services publics.
- Nous avons aussi eu une session de lobbying avec le Directeur des politiques du
Ministère de la formation et des collèges et universités.

- J’aimerais aussi faire une annonce: la FÉUO a un rôle actif dans une position qui assure
la bonne gouvernance de la FCÉÉ-O. J’aimerais féliciter Roxanne Dubois pour son
élection au poste de Trésorière de la FCÉÉ-O, 2009-2010.

La semaine des clubs s’est très bien déroulée et nous sommes présentement en train de réviser
les demandes de 20 nouveaux clubs.
Services
La Semaine internationale fut encore une fois un grand succès cette année. J’espère
que vous avez tou(te)s eu la chance d’aller y jeter un coup d’œil. Nous mettrons des
photos sur le site Web si vous n’avez pas pu y assister.
La Semaine de la fierté a déjà commencé avec un voyage à Montréal et une cérémonie

d’ouverture vendredi.
Formation antioppression
Il y aura une formation antioppression offerte par la FÉUO à son personnel et nous
encourageons fortement tou(te)s les membres du Conseil d’administration que ça
intéresse à y participer. C’est gratuit et ça aura lieu le 8 février de 11 h à 17 h. Veuillez,
s’il vous plaît, communiquer avec moi si vous êtes intéressé(e).

Commerces
- On va travailler dans les prochaines semaines avec les gens de la campagne pour un
campus sans sacs de plastic. On va essayer d’en appliquer les principes dans nos
commerces dans les prochains mois.
Finances
- On a un compte-rendu clair des dépenses du premier semestre, tout semble bien aller.
Je vais présenter une mise à jour budgétaire lors de la prochaine réunion du CA.
Ressources humaines
- On se prépare pour le blitz des embauches du mois de février / mars pour ceux et celles
d’ente vous qui seriez à la recherche d’un emploi.
Régime d’assurance maladie

- L’an dernier il y avait eu quelques difficultés qui nous ont obligé à permettre à 350
étudiants à renoncer au plan après la date limite, ce qui nous a représenté des pertes de
60000$. Cette année, on a allonger la période de renonciation de deux semaines et le
tout semble marcher beaucoup mieux.

Jeux d’Hiver

- Après neuf activités en sept jours, l’équipe est plutôt épuisée- nous avons eu trois
jours de compétition, l’Invasion de bonhommes de neige, le tourniquet, la Guerre des
Tuques (chapeau à la Faculté des arts pour cette année) et finalement le concert de
clôture avec Beast, Numéro, K’Naan et Kardinal Offishal. L’équipe organisatrice fut
ravie de constater la participation active des membres impliqués et nous avons hâte de
voir le projet grandir au cours des prochaines années. J’aimerais remercier Matt Joseph,
notre coordonnateur, pour tout le travail qu’il a effectué lors de la première édition.
Voyages de ski
— Les voyages de ski se déroulent à merveille! Il en reste trois : un à Sutton, un à
Tremblant et un à Jay Peak.
Série de danse
— Notre audition pour la série de danse se déroulera vendredi soir prochain et pendant
tout le mois de février pour ceux qui ont un conflit d’horaire. Les inscriptions se
multiplient et nous sommes très excités de lancer deux événements le 10 et 24 mars.
Sénateurs pour la vie

— Il reste encore quelques billets pour la partie des Sénateurs contre les L.A. Kings ce
mardi pour Relais pour la vie. Si vous êtes intéressés, passez par le bureau de la Fédé!
Plongée
—Cette année, l’événement « plongée » aura lieu le 25 février 2009 et nous
présenterons le classique « Jaws » à la piscine du pavillon Montpetit. Nous travaillerons
avec l’équipe de nage synchronisée afin de simuler des morceaux d’humains pour que
cet événement soit des plus mémorables!
Série Panda
- Après avoir perdu de justesse contre Carleton lors de la soirée Casino Royale, le
deuxième événement de la série Panda s’en vient à grands pas le 2 mars avec la Grande
guerre des consoles et ses multiples compétitions de jeux vidéo dont « Mario Kart à
travers les âges », « Rock Band », etc. Cet événement aura lieu à Carleton. Les
formulaires d’inscription seront disponibles au bureau de la FÉUO cette semaine. Je
travaille présentement à ajouter des jeux de sport pour l’année prochaine afin
d’améliorer la série et d’augmenter le taux de participation à ces événements sportifs.
Soirée Courts métrages

— En collaboration avec les productions Zoom et le Service de vie communautaire,
nous organisons une soirée de Courts Métrages avec notre compétition YouTube.

— Nous organisons deux événements pour la Semaine de la Francophonie. (explique)
Relais pour la vie

— Les réunions pour les comités organisateurs commencent cette semaine. Nous avons
encore quelques postes importants à déléguer. Si vous êtes intéressé, veuillez, s’il vous

Règlement 13
- Quelques défis seront à relever lors de la Semaine 101 2009. Puisque, cette année, la
fin de semaine d’emménagement sera du 5 septembre au 7 plutôt que du 30 au 1er, le
début des classes aura lieu mercredi plutôt que jeudi. Afin d’assurer que les rencontres
de facultés, les réunions d’édifice, Shinerama, Fedstock, les événements d’associations,
le déjeuner-dîner du président et tout ce qui se déroulera pendant cette semaine
s’effectuent dans les délais nécessaires, plusieurs changements doivent être effectués de
notre côté. Puisque quelques changements que je voulais apporter au règlement
dépendent de cette restructuration, je voulais clarifier le processus que j’entreprendrai
afin de scruter les différentes options et opinions avant d’effectuer de telles décisions.
J’en informerai l’équipe 101 et l’Exécutif afin de recevoir une rétroaction et de
proposer un éventail d’options. Ensuite, ce sera transmis à la Table ronde sociale pour
un examen méticuleux. Les options pourront par la suite être discutées plus clairement.
Nous demanderons une rétroaction de la part de tous les guides 101 de cette année
académique. D’ici là, le nouveau V.-p. aux activités sociales aura été élu. Avec toutes
les rétroactions, les suggestions et les inquiétudes, nous prendrons une décision qui
satisfera tout le monde et qui sera le cœur des motions présentées à la prochaine
réunion du Conseil d’administration. Nous voulons nous assurer de prendre les
meilleures décisions possible en rapport à cet événement qui est cher à tant d’étudiants
afin que celui-ci puisse fleurir au fil du temps.

La grève d’OC Transpo est terminée. Les services devraient recommencer dès ce jeudi. Ils
seront à 80 % dès le 9 février.
J’ai envoyé une lettre à Alain Mercier, directeur d’OC Transpo de la ville d’Ottawa, et à
tou(te)s les représentant(e)s étudiants afin de souligner qu’il est maintenant crucial d’aborder la
question de la Passe universelle de bus.
Mettre sur pied une passe permettra :
De raviver la confiance dans notre réseau de transport en commun
De garantir un taux élevé d’achalandage
De garantir une source de revenus stable
D’offrir l’option Passe U à toutes les institutions postsecondaires (environ 100 000 étudiants)
Nous n’abandonnerons pas ce projet qui s’avérera avantageux autant pour la Ville que pour les
étudiants.

Ce mois-ci, je travaillerai avec vigueur sur le projet de création d’un centre étudiant.

Je travaille avec l’Exécutif afin de m’assurer que le changement d’administration soit mis sur
papier. Ceci comprendra les membres du Conseil d’administration, de l’Exécutif et des Corps
fédérés, ainsi que les employés de la Fédération étudiante. En bref, la fédération dans son
entier et la façon dont nous effectuerons le changement. Nous avons l’intention d’en faire une
politique en soi pour la fédération après avoir consulté tous les groupes aux opinions
divergentes.

Restez aux aguets puisque je publierai, dans les prochaines semaines, des mises à jour sur un
cybercarnet de vidéos afin que les étudiants puissent y jeter un coup d’œil sur notre site Web.

Le maître médiateur, Pam Mezher, a démissionné.
J’aimerais remercier Pam de son engagement et de ses années de services au sein du corps
judiciaire de la FÉUO.
Federico et moi rencontrerons les médiateurs étudiants dans les prochaines semaines afin
d’assurer une élection transparente et conforme d’un nouveau maître médiateur. De plus, il y a
des sièges vacants au sein du comité et nous sommes à la recherche d’étudiants afin de
remédier à la situation.

Je continue à travailler très fort avec le bureau des élections. J’ai défendu la position du CA au
comité d’arbitrage;
Les problèmes qui ont été présentés au comité d’arbitrage sont les suivants :
1. Est-ce que la Constitution énonce implicitement ou explicitement que les votes doivent être
déposés grâce à des bulletins en papier?
Décision : La Constitution ne fait nullement état d’un moyen précis par lequel les votes doivent
être déposés.
2. Est-ce que les votes électroniques violent l’article 4. 10.2 de la Constitution en permettant le
transfert des votes?
Décision : Les risques de fraudes électorales ont toujours existé et existeront toujours, peu
importe le mode de scrutin utilisé. Le comité doute fortement que le nouveau système
augmente le risque de fraudes. Ainsi, la réponse à ladite question est négative.
3. Est-ce que le processus de vérification peut être homologué à l’article 4.12 et de ce qui suit?
Décision : La question, selon notre comité, est de déterminer si le Comité électoral a institué
un processus afin de s’assurer de l’exactitude des résultats des élections. Les défendeurs ont

montré au comité l’existence d’un tel processus de vérification qui peut retrouver chaque vote
déposé dans le cadre des élections tout en protégeant l’anonymat de l’électeur.
Pour ces raisons, notre réponse à la question 3 est affirmative.

Marketing
We are renegociating prices with Campus Print, from posters to shipping, they haven't
really changed anything in the last two years and we are also trying to adapt the options
to better serve students first, based on what they've been using the most. We also have a
brand new interface which is also much more user friendly. Check it out!

Winter Games
Tons of promotion was done for the SFUO Winter Games! We were starting from
scratch, this year. And still, we had a great turnout, lots of good feedback from students
and I made some of them swear they wouls participate again next year. I was Teams
Coordinator for the last 2 weeks, it was great, and the Scavenger Hunt we got the teams
to participate in was a great way for us to promote the SFUO directly to 200 very
excited students.
Clubs translation
We started offering a translation service to clubs, which will be adapted according to
the need, if you are part of a Club, write to translation@sfuo.ca .
CHUO
To keep you in the loop, CHUO is re-evaluating the quality of their space which really
isn't ideal, being in a basement, the quality of their equipment, some of it is in bad
shape, all the while keeping in mind that they could eventually move into the future
Student Centre.
Zoom Productions
Zoom Productions did their 2nd Quick Flick event last weekend with brand new teams
and made videos with volunteers and participants.
Centre du bilinguisme
The Bilingualism Centre is working very hard on Francophonie Week, with a theme of
“french around the world”, and they always get more demand for discussion groups.
Campaigns

There's a lot more campaigns this semester, voted on by the open campaigns
committee, see more about it in the VP University Affairs update. A lot of promo,
tabling, and class presentations are going into this now, and will be done this month, to
support the groups running these campaigns, like Plastic Bag Free Campus,
International Development Week, etc.
Partnership with International Development Week

Talking about IDW, I worked with the team to produce a pamphlet with the schedule, to
order fair traid organic t-shirts for volunteers through the Canadian Federation of
Students (CFS), it's one of many ways to contribute to IDW, and it's starting tomorrow,
they have great guest speakers and events!
Action Sandy Hill

Just a quick update on the board meetings of Action Sandy Hill, since the beginning of
the winter: The main focus has been working with the City, the University and the NCC
to decide on the plans for the Nicholas-Mann space. Four plans were drafted since
2007, one of them with a stadium, and the University of Ottawa is leaning towards this
one.
Website
As soon as all content is revised and proofread the new website will be launched, I
know it's taking time, but we'd rather do it slowly and well, than doing it too fast and
messing up!
Emails Privacy
Also all students were informed about the list serve of the SFUO being a private list
that we did not and will not share with anyone. It is used for SFUO purposes only, to
inform SFUO members of events, campaigns, services and initiatives.

Campaigns and Partnerships

- Black History Month: I have been actively engaged with this year’s Black History
Month Committee (as a reminder to the Board, today is the first day of Black History
Month). For the first time, we have been able to bring together all of the student clubs
that specifically represent the various black communities and have organized a series of
events for the month.
- International Development Week: The SFUO has financially supported this initiative
and are working with the IDW committee on the events, especially the weekend
workshop.
- International Week: this gave us a great opportunity to give a bigger push on two of our
campaigns – OHIP of International Students, and Students United Against Racism.

- Task Force on Campus Racism: this initiative, led by the CFS-Ontario has been
launched. Every student received an email inviting them to participate in the first
meeting of the Task Force which will take place this Thursday at 6 pm in the SFUO
office.
CRESAC
- This service is continuing on the trend of increased utilization by students. CRESAC
now averages 6 new cases a day.
CEHR
- Positive Space for new students in residence is going on
- Work for the Diversity and Accessibility Symposium is in full swing. Registration has
been opened and we have already received registration from students, including some
students from the United States.
CFS-Ontario
- As you are aware, a general meeting of CFS-O was held January 22-25
- Discussions included: the next steps for the drop fees campaign, the task force on
campus racism and a proposed provincial day of action for all public services
- We also had a direct lobby session with the policy director of the Ministry of Training,
Colleges and Universities
- A copy of all motions passed are in my office
- I would also like to make an anouncment: The SFUO has taken an active role in a
position that can ensure the good governance of CFS-O. I would like to congratulate
Roxanne Dubois for her election as CFS-O Treasurer, 2009-10

Clubs week went smoothly and we are presently reviewing about 20 new club applications.
Services
International Week was a great success again this year, I hope you all had a chance to drop by.
We will be putting pictures up on the website if you missed it.
Pride Week has already started with a trip to Montreal and an opening party on Friday.
Anti-Oppression training.
There will be an anti-oppression training that they SFUO is offering to it’s staff and we
strongly encourage any interested board member to attend. It is of no cost and will take place
on the 8th of February, from 11am to 5pm. Please speak with me if you are interested.
Class
I am taking a class this semester, the making of Canada HIS 1101.
Sustainable Development
We are starting a new campaign with the sustainable development office which is called
Recyclomania. This campaign will use activities and different outreach methods to encourage
reductions of consumption and recycling within the university community.

- We will be working with the campaign Plastic bag free campus to see how our businesses can
apply these principles in the next few months.
Finances
- We have a clear look at the first semesters finances and it’s looking food so far. I will be
presenting a financial update at the next BOA.
HR
- We are preparing for the hiring blitz in February/ March for those of you who might be looking
for jobs
Health Plan
- Because we had a few difficulties last year, we made some adjustments and the health plan
has been working much better. There were almost 350 opt outs that we had to apply after the
deadline last year which represents almost 60 000$ in losses. This year we have not had to opt

out anyone after the deadline, which was pushed back 2 weeks. The system is working much
better.

Winter Games
- Afetr 9 activities in 7 days. We had 3 days of competition,
Snowman invasion, The Spin, Guerre des Tuques and the final concert with
Beast, Numéro, K’Naan et Kardinal Offishal. We were all excited to see the
people participating and we are looking forward to see the event grow in the
years to come. I would like to thank Matt Joseph for all his work for this
first edition.
Ski Trips
- Ski trips are still going strong three trip left, one to Sutton,
one to Tremblant and one to Jay Peak.
Dance Series
- Our auditions for the dance series is next Friday during the
night time and throughout the month of February for those who have
scheduling issues. Sign-ups are really picking up and we are excited to
launch the 2 events in March falling on the 10th and the 24th.
Send for Life

- There are a few tickets left for the Sens game against the
L.A. Kings this Tuesday for Relay for Life at the Fed office.
Dive-In
- This year the Dive-In will be on February 25th and we will be
hosting the original Jaws in the MPT pool. We will be working with the
Synchronized Swimming Team and fake body parts to make this event oh so
memorable.
Panda Series
- After falling a bit short to Carleton in the Casino Royale
night, the second event of our Panda Series is coming up on March 2nd with
the Great Console War with a crazy amalgamation of video game competitions,
including Mario Kart Through the years, Rock Band, etc. This event will be
held at Carleton. Sign-ups will be live at the SFUO office this week. I am
working on expanding this series for next year to include sport games
between the two campuses to increase the series and increase participation
at these sporting events.
Short film serie

- With Zoom Productions and Community Life Service we are
organizing a short film evening and a Youtube competition.

Semaine de la Francophonie
- We are organizing two events for the
Francophonie Week
Relay for Life

- Meetings for the organising committees are starting this
week, we still have a few chair positions left. If you are interested please
contact Laurice at relay@sfuo.ca
Bylaw 13
- So we have fallen on some new challenges for 101 week 2009.
Since this year the move in weekend will be from September 5th- to the 7th
as compared to the 30th to the 1st the beginning of classes will fall on the
Wednesday instead of the Thursday. To ensure enough time between faculty
sessions, building wide meetings, shinerama, Fedstock, association events,
president’s brunch, and everything that we can possibly fit into the week
some changes on our side need to be made. Since some of the changes that I
wanted to bring to the Bylaw depend on this restructuring I wanted to
clarify the due process I will be taking to go through all the vines before
making such decisions. I will be bringing it up within the 101 crew and the
executive to get feedback and to lay-out a series of options. Then it will
be brought to the SRT for further discussion. Then the options will be
hashed out much more clearly. Then we will get feedback from all the 101
guides this year. Then by this time, the new VP Social will have been
elected and with all the feedback, suggestions, and worries we will make a
decision that works for all entities and this will be the heart of the
motions presented at the next board meeting. With an event that’s so close
to so many people we want to make sure to make the best decisions for better
continuity throughout the years.

The transit strike is over. The first buses should be on the road Thursday
and 80% of the service should be available by February 9th
I sent a letter addressed to Alain Mercier, OC Transpo Director; City of

Ottawa and all student representatives outlining that now id absolutely the
time for a Universal Bus Pass. Putting a pass in place would ensure
Restoring confidence in the transit system

Guaranteeing higher ridership levels
Guaranteeing a sustainable source of revenue
Building a U-Pass option for all post-secondary institutions (representing
approximately one-hundred thousand students)
We will not give up on this program that will benefit the city and students.

This month, I will be working on the implementation plan for the Student
Center.
I am working with the executive to write down our transition policies and
procedures. This will encompass the transition of board members, executive
members, federated bodies and employees of the federation. Essentially, the
whole federation and how we transition. We intend to make this a full
policy for the federation after consulting with all the divergent groups.
Should you have any questions, please let me know.
Stay tuned as I will be launching a video blog updates in the next couple of
weeks for our students to view on our website.
The Chief Arbitrator, Pam Mezher has resigned from her position.
I’d like to thank Pam for her commitment to the SFUO judiciary and
complement her on her years of service to the SFUO.
Federico and I will be meeting with the student arbitrators in the coming
weeks to ensure a smooth election of a new chief arbitrator. Further to
that, there are seats open on the committee and we will be searching for
students to fill those seats.
I am working with the electons office and I defended the Board decision to
the Student arbitration Committee last week.
The issues that arose in front of the student arbitration for decision where
the following:
1. Does the Constitution implicitly or explicitly states that the votes must
be cast through a conventional paper ballot?
Decision: Nothing in the constitution states that the votes must be cast
through a specific type of ballot.
2. Does the electronic voting method violate article 4.10.2 of the

Constitution by allowing the transfer of votes?
Decision: The risks of electoral fraud have always existed and will always
exist no matter which system is used. The committee is not convinced that
the new system would increase the risk of fraud. Therefore, our answer to
the present question is negative.
3. Can the audit process qualify as a recount in the sense of article 4.12
and the following?
Decision: The question, according to our committee, is thus to determine if
the Elections Committee implemented a process to ensure the accuracy of the
election results. The defendants demonstrated to the committee the existence
of such an audit process that would trace back each vote cast during the
election, while protecting the anonymity of the voter.

For these reasons, our answer to question 3 is positive.
