ACKNOWLEDGMENT The intern of the 2010 Summer Science Internship Program (SSIP) acknowledges with gratefulness the following: The personnel of Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) for accepting the Philippine Science High School- Cagayan Valley Campus scholars in completing their internship experiences and for providing them a very productive learning experiences about plant crops, particularly rice; Philippine Science High School- Cagayan Valley Campus (PSHS-CVC) for giving the future researchers the opportunity to experience a high-standard education. PSHS-CVC had really enriched their minds in preparing us for our brighter futures; The mentors of PhilRice for their patience in feeding the interns full of wisdom and their willingness in sharing their knowledge to their respective students. They have been their inspiration for helping them in creating wild ideas on their future researches; The faculty and staff of PSHS-CVC for helping the students to continue their journey especially to Mr. Roldan Cardona for arranging and patiently coordinating the internship of these second year students in PhilRice, Mrs. Aimee Gragasin for her weekly visits to the interns while theyre at PhilRice and Mr. Orcene Cancino for accompanying them during their orientation; The team leader of the group, Caryl May Alada, for her resolute leadership guided and supported the members until the end of the internship;

Their parents are the ones who have raised them and have really influenced them through their journey in life. They are the ones who have taught the sophomores how to handle it all and theyre so grateful for their continuous support; And above all, to the Almighty Father, for the blessings He gives and continues to give. The incoming juniors have so many opportunities that they never imagined could happen, and owe Him for the strength and the guidance. They hope this is another opportunity that they have taken advantage of to serve others and to glorify His name.

DEDICATION The scholar humbly dedicates this narrative report to the following: Her parents, who trough the years, had served as their guiding lights and made their childrens life worth living; Its because of them that enable the scholars to continue their journey. They are the reason for their childrens hard work towards success; Her fellow classmates and friends, who had been her inspiration, had given them endless support and care in completing this report; Philippine Rice Research and its faculty and staff, for accommodating the students during the internship, had really inspired the scholars in creating science related ideas on their respective researches particularly in rice; Philippine Science High School- Cagayan Valley Campus for providing the scholars a home that theyll always treasure in their hearts and in their minds; Her beloved teachers, who patiently feed the scholars wisdom and their willingness in sharing their knowledge to their students, have been their second parents during this time, thats why they are really a great help in guiding and inspiring them; And above all, to God, who had given them the greatest and unmatched inspiration to go with her journey.
