Exodus 24:3

And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments:
and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD
hath said will we do.

Sometimes people get the idea that they have to clean up their lives before they can to God. They
think they have to give up their bad habits before they can start attending church.

“There's no way you can be good without God― anymore than you can be wet without
water; anymore then you can be tan without the sun.” ―Joseph Prince

“God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there.
There is no such thing.” ―C.S. Lewis

God is good, and good is God. You cannot be good apart from God! But these people that said, “All
the words which the LORD hath said we will do,” were boasting in their own ability to do good
without God! They were being self-righteous! The response that they should have given was this:
“Lord, your laws are too perfect and holy for us mere humans to keep on our own. It was Your
grace and unmerited favor toward us that brought us out of Egypt, and we rely on that same
undeserved favor to deliver us into the Promised Land.” I believe that the Lord would have taken
them straight to the Promised Land right then, and with joy! The Lord wants us to be dependent
on Him. He doesn't want us to try to do things in our own strength.

“There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, "Thy will be done," and those to
whom God says, "All right, then, have it your way." ―C.S. Lewis

“I want to be happy, and I want to be good, but ultimately, I want to be God’s. I know
that I can never be happy or good without Him.” ―Luke Beecham

God knew that mankind was incapable of perfectly keeping the law when He gave them the law.
So why, then, did He give the law? To make us see our need for Him.

Matthew 9:12
But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, “They that be whole need not a
physician, but they that are sick.”

“When you know you are sick, you will listen to the doctor... You will begin to
understand what the Christians are talking about. They tell you how the demands of
this law, which you and I cannot meet, have been met on our behalf, how God Himself
becomes a man to save man from the disapproval of God.” ―C.S. Lewis

This is what Christianity is all about.

Matthew 5:17
“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to
destroy, but to fulfill.”

2 Corinthians 5:21
For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the
righteousness of God in Him.

Men cannot keep God's laws on their own, and God doesn't want them to try. He wants men to
confess that they are sinners, and to be aware of their need for a Savior. Once men come to that
place of realizing that they need Him, then He can Save them. And He can make them good.
