Cross Country

Tuesday 19th March, 2013 By Meg

In the morning I was ready to go to school for the annual Cross Country. I was very excited and I even had butterflies in my stomach. I was wearing my house colour for the Cross Country as well. I had to wear a yellow t-shirt. The line that I was in ready to race was huge. I raced with the other 8/9/10 girls. Before we raced there was a loud gun that went off, that meant that the race had started! I was running like I had a bee chasing me. When I got nearly to the middle I started to walk a little. I had to run really far around the whole school. When I was at the finish line I nearly collapsed because I was thirsty and tired. As I was walking back to my grade I saw my dad, he came up to me and gave me a great big hug. He asked me how I went, I told him, good, but I stopped a couple of times. He said, oh well. When the grade sixes ran I felt sorry for them because they had to run around the whole school like we did, but they had to run around twice! Everyone who ran got a little ticket which tells you what you came. For some reason me and a couple of my friends did not get one. What a shame, it doesnt really matter though. A couple minutes later all of the grades started to head back to their class rooms. I was still a bit tired.

I was so nervous before school today. So was my friend, Bailey, when we picked him up to go to school. I went to school in my green uniform because Im in Dennis. When the bell went we quickly got ready and I felt a little bit better. Then I saw the preps race and I got nervous again. After a couple races it was my turn. I followed Flynn, because he was in the 11/12 age group too. I was waiting for the grade 5s. Flynn and I were the only grade 4s. Then the gun went off. Flynn was beside me and said, we have to run two laps around the school, well, one and a half laps. Everyone was running so fast I didnt think theyd have have energy to do the second lap. With one more lap to go I passed a lot of people. Some started walking. Almost at the end one more person to pass to be 10th then another grade 5 boy came speeding through. Then I lost my place so I came 12th. I was so tired and weak at the end so my mum gave me a drink. She had to go after my sisters race. I had a great time and I was proud of myself.

The Cross Country

In the morning I was really excited about the annual Cross Country, but I was also pretty nervous. When we were on the oval watching the people run I really enjoyed cheering my great house colour, Gordon. Before I knew it I was lined up ready to race against the 8/9/10 year old girls. Then the gun went off with a loud bang! I ran across the big oval then I ran down to the smaller soccer oval and through the gate and up the side of the school. I ran up to the top of the school at the drop off zone and I got pretty puffed. I started to walk for three seconds and then I saw a few other people about to pass me, so I kept on running. I ran down around the corner and through the other school gate, and then down the path. I passed my teacher, Miss Jordan, and she gave me a high five. I passed the long jump and triple jump pit and past some of the crowd who were cheering for me and my house team (Gordon). I ran up to where I started and then I ran down next to the tennis nets, past Mr Stribley who had the microphone and into the big Anaconda thing. Finally, I stopped running and that was the end of the race. I got a little ticket that said the number 12 which meant that I came 12th and I was two places away from districts. But Im on the emergency list which means if two people drop out, Ill be in districts. I had a lot of fun running. It was a great race.
