FIELD ASSIGNMENT NUMBER THREE SOCIAL MAPPING AND NETWORK ANALYSIS

INTRODUCTION This assignment is based on social mapping and networking which is helpful in understanding its importance in our daily routine life. Social Mapping and networking refers to the interaction of the individuals with each other which enable them to share their ideas and thoughts. A specific personality has been selected in order to undertake this assignment. For this particular assignment, I have selected my father and have conducted the interview with him in order to understand and discuss the personal associations. This is also essential in order to conduct the social networking analysis of the selected person. The person details of the interviewee shows that the interviewee is 52 years old at the present moment and the highest education level which he has achieved during his academic career is PHD. He has worked more than twenty five years in the National Bank of Saudi Arabia and he was the CEO of the West Region. He has started his career as customer services officer in the bank and due to his continuous hard work and strong commitment he achieved the top level position within the firm. This assignment presents the analysis of the data which has been collected and then the personal experiences have been discussed in the critical reflection section of the assignment. The networking mapping can be understood with the help of the below diagram:

DATA COLLECTION & PRESENTATION I have asked several questions from my father during the interview and he has provided detailed answers against each and question which has helped a great deal in order to complete this assignment in an effective manner. The interviewee informed that social networking has great importance in ones life because it is helpful in understanding the attitudes and behaviors of the individuals with whom you interact on daily basis. It is also an important way of developing sound relationships with the other people living within the society. According to the interviewee,

the social networking provides many learning opportunities and it also helps to avoid many misunderstanding between the people which will create a positive impact on the overall society because the misunderstandings between the people could leads to serious disasters. The interview informed that he do social networking with many people around him which includes his boss, colleagues, customers, neighbors, doctors and even servant. This is helpful in understanding the psyche of the people who belongs to different walks of life and have different perceptions regarding the events which are happening around him. The interviewee responded against the interview question and informed the interviwer that it is an effective learning experience to interact with those people who are educated and have good exposure of life. The interviewee believes that social interaction with the individuals who obtained higher level of education is helpful in obtaining knowledge from their education and experience. It enables the individuals to share the interests, backgrounds, activities and build the real life connections which can create a positive impact on the overall society. The interviewee informed the interviewer against the interview question that it is not necessary that social mapping and networking can always generate desire able results and helps to build the social relations because there are cases when the social networking resulted in serious issues and this is mainly due to the misunderstanding between the individuals. However, these misunderstandings can be overcome with the help of regular interactions and communications between the people. The interviewee informed the interviewer that it is the desire of every human being to interact with the other people living within the society and in order to fulfill this desire; the people usually interact with each other. The social networking provides an opportunity to the individuals to communicate and interact with each other in an effective manner. The importance of the desire among the individuals for social networking can be understood through the popularity of the

social networking sites. The rising popularity of social networking sites shows that it is a desire among majority of the human beings to interact regularly with each other by using different means. The interviewee informed that he interact with the other people face to face and also through the social networking sites by using the internet. The interviewee believes that social networking sites provides an effective way of developing strong interaction and communications with the other people and the most effective benefits of interacting through the social networking sites is that it allows you to interact with the people who are living in different parts of the world. This is a learning experience because interacting with the people who belongs to different cultural backgrounds helps you to develop effective understanding regarding different cultures and social norms and traditions. While answering a question regarding the strength of relationship due to social networking, the interviewee informed the interviewer that strength of relationship can be very high or it can be very low. However, it mainly depends on the individual who is building the relationships through the social networking. There are cases when the individuals get close to each other due to the social networking and it strengthens their relationships. While answering about the duration of relationships, the interviewee replied that duration of relationship can be very long which could last for years in social networking, however, the duration of relationship could be very short which just last for one single interaction. It also depends upon the experience of the individuals with each other during the social interaction. If the experiences were good then they are more likely to interact with each other in the near future. Similarly, in case of bad experiences, there are very slight chances that the individuals will do social networking again. The frequency of interactions and communications during the social networking is also helpful in determining that whether the relationship will last for a longer period of time or not.

CRITICAL REFLECTION The critical reflection shows the personal experiences and observations of the interviewer during the process of conducting the interview and collecting the data for analysis purpose. If my personal experiences are considered during the collection of interview data then it can be stated that overall experience of conducting the interview with my father was very great as I always have very strong bonding and relationship with my father. Therefore, it was easy for me to conduct a detailed interview with my father. After the completion of the interview, I have realized that my decision of selecting my father for this particular interview was very good as I got the detailed answers against each and every aspect of social networking and my father has provided me very useful information regarding the increasing importance of social networking. This discussion with my father during the interview has helped me to understand that why social networking is important and how it will be helpful in getting rid of the social issues and problems. I have learnt during the interview that how social networking can be helpful in building good relationships among the individuals who belongs to different walks of life and resolve the interpersonal issues. This is particularly important because interpersonal issues can create a negative impact on the lives of the people who are living within the society. Therefore, the role of social networking in resolving issues among the individuals is very important and social networking can be used as a mean of promotion harmony and peace within the society.

APPLICATION TO OWN FOCUS AREA The social mapping and network analysis is helpful in enhancing the efficacy of the group or association driven development issues because it allows the individuals to interact with each

other more frequently which is helpful in resolving the issues. The social networking can be used in order to resolve the conflicts among the people and minimize the misunderstandings. The social networking can also be very helpful in order to generate the information for this particular assignment because it provides different types of information which is essential in order to effectively complete any type of research. It is a fact that social networking is very helpful in completing any research project effectively because it allows frequent interaction between the individuals which is helpful in collecting detailed information which is required in order to undertake the research project.
