Dear Shareholders, Dear Business Partners, Dear Employees,
I am delighted to have this opportunity to address you through the Annual
Review on our activities in 2011. It will certainly come as no surprise to hear that
last year was not an easy one. In light of this, it is even more signicant that we
succeeded in reaching the objectives we had dened for 2011.
It was another year in which our membership in the ARCADIS engineering group
enabled us to utilize its accumulated knowledge and experience for the benet
of our clients, and our clients gave us many opportunities to show us that they
realized and appreciated this fact.
In 2011, the globally operating ARCADIS group started to fulll the new
strategic plan for the period of 2011 to 2013. In this context, we also attained
the basic strategic objectives of our company. We continue to maintain our
leading position in the market of geotechnical services. Persuasive evidence
of this is the fact that our clients seek us predominantly when solving the most
complex geotechnical problems. Our regional presence is of signicance, as
well. There, we are closer to our clients who perceive positively the availability
of our services. Seeking out and introducing new services is an integral part of
our companys portfolio. We continue to assert our position in foreign markets,
especially in Slovakia, through our Structural Unit and through cooperation
with our subsidiary company GEOFOS. Activities in other countries are based
predominantly on our cooperation with Czech construction companies and other
companies in the ARCADIS group.
As far as economic indicators are concerned, emphasis was placed primarily on
achieving our own planned performance level. In this we were successful - the
companys own operations generated almost EUR 10.5 million, with pre-tax
prots in excess of EUR 1.1 million. The companys equity capital increased from
EUR 10.3 million to EUR 11.2 million.
As was the case last year, I must state that all this took place on a backdrop
of a material decrease in activities in the construction eld. As in the foregoing
years, these results could be achieved thanks to two basic reasons.
Despite the tough market conditions, we continued with the systematic
development of our employees. We also involved a large group of employees
in preparing changes within the company. Interdependence between the
companys investments into ongoing professional growth of the employees,
development of their managerial and language abilities, and the engagement
of employees in their work and their interest in the companys future is
apparent and has repeatedly delivers positive results.
As mentioned, our clients seek us especially in situations when they need to
solve complex problems, both in planning and execution of projects. We see
this as the highest acknowledgement of the quality of our work. However,
we are aware that we must continuously improve our ability to recognize and
understand our clients needs. Our objective is to be perceived in the long term
as our clients rst choice in solving tasks or problems they deal with. The long-
term nature of business relationships with many of our clients is proof that we
are on the right track. We still believe this approach is the correct one, and our
experience unambiguously conrms this belief. Our place is wherever we are in
the position of an acknowledged business partner bringing great benet to the
client in the form of unique solutions.
Annual Review 2011
Introduction 2
Introduction
During the past year, the structure of our most signicant clients changed more
markedly than in previous years. Given the possibility for a comprehensive
approach to solving an issue and the possibility to optimize the planned
solution, it is logical.
State institutions that assign work through public tenders are usually not
interested in these types of services. As they place emphasis on the lowest prices
of services, the above-described benets almost always fade.
With increasing frequency, major construction companies have become our
key clients. The share of projects for private investors grew as well. As far as
state institutions are concerned, our activities for the Railway Infrastructure
Administration continued. Jobs for traditional clients, such the Road and
Motorway Directorate, the Waterways Directorate, or individual regions of the
Czech Republic were few and far between. In 2011, we continued our systematic
search for new clients, and expect this activity to bear fruit in the near future.
Last year was another year of substantially decreased investment activities in
the construction industry. Thus, the uncertainty of the market has been plainly
visible. Our business has been strongly inuenced in particular by a continuing
decrease in investments into the transport infrastructure. Therefore, we focused
on clients that are able to appreciate the quality and benets of our services.
This approach is in harmony with our long-term policy, which we have been
able to apply when working especially with private clients and construction
contractors. Our focus on those services that give our clients the required added
value has again proved to be very prudent. Thus, the signicance of offering
solutions instead of routine services proved to be the right approach in these
times when more economic solutions are sought.
I also believe it is important to mention our activities within ARCADIS CZ
holding. Cooperation with our colleagues from the design company ARCADIS
Bohemiaplan s.r.o., located in Plze, with ARCADIS Project management s.r.o.,
located in Prague, and with GEOFOS, s.r.o., located in ilina, Slovakia, has
enabled us to offer turn-key solutions, working with the client from the
beginning of its investment plan through to delivery of the completed work.
Thus, we are in an ideal position to strengthen our ability to provide complex
solutions to our clients.
At the end of the year, our parent company ARCADIS acquired EC Harris,
a signicant global consulting company with branch ofces in the Czech
Republic and Slovakia. One of our major tasks in 2012 will be to integrate
EC Harris into the current structure of ARCADIS CZ in a way that will increase
demand for our services.
Like every year, in 2011 our company again clearly contributed to the
development of our industry. Educational and publishing activities included
35 speeches given by our specialists at conferences and seminars and 28 written
works were published. Our cooperation with universities and with CIDEAS, the
Center of Integrated Research, has continued. We became involved in standards
creation and resolved several tasks in applied research. We greatly appreciate
the activities of our employees in this area, which benet both our employees
and our clients.
Annual Review 2011
Introduction 3
In 2011, we focused on health and operational safety. ARCADIS works for major
global rms and had incorporated their requirements concerning health and
operational safety levels many years ago. This trend was also applied to ARCADIS
Geotechnika, where in the area of health and operational safety, we created
higher-level requirements than those required by legislation.
In 2012, we expect many signicant changes. I have mentioned the integration
of EC Harris, which will be a part of the companys integration within ARCADIS CZ.
Many changes in the companys internal management are planned to render
our activities more efcient. We are fully aware that both looking back and
looking to the future are important for ARCADIS Geotechnika a.s. It remains
true that implementation of the company strategy and that of our parent
company, as expressed in the fulllment of targeted economic goals, continuing
with engaging the younger generation of employees in company management,
primarily with the systematic development of key employees and, last but not
least, establishing long-term relationships with our clients are the standard
objectives for 2012.
Compared to last year, we expect 2012 to be more complicated for our company,
particularly from the economic point of view. All our steps are aimed at
managing the expected continuing drop in the construction industry. However,
even in this less-than ideal situation, ensuring high level of specialization and
high quality of our work are our top priorities.
We fullled our goals for 2011. However, there are even more demanding goals
ahead of us. Let us enjoy good health and the strength to achieve them.

Technical Development
ARCADIS Geotechnika a.s. invested its nancial, human and material resources
into technical development in 2011. The aim was to be able to offer cheaper
and more efcient solutions to customers problems even in difcult economic
conditions on the civil works market, thus increasing the competitiveness of its
services. The following topics were addressed:
Field Testing
New Goodman Jack apparatus for determining deformation characteristics
of rocks in boreholes down to the depth of 100 meters was purchased. This
equipment is manufactured by the American company Durham Geo Slope
Indicator (DGSI). In principle, it works by radial loading of the borehole walls
and sensing its deformation. Pressure on the borehole wall achievable
in practice is 40 to 50 MPa.
Methodology of deformation tests has been prepared for the purpose of deter-
mining rock massif properties in boreholes during very slow loading cycles.
Geomechanics Laboratory
New test techniques and methods have been introduced, including procurement
of relevant modern instrumentation. These include the following:
determination of aggregate resistance to crushing using the impact crushabil-
ity method. InfraTest Prftechnik GmbH test equipment has been purchased.
The test complies with the requirements of the SN EN 1097-2 and SN EN
13 450 standards.
rock abrasiveness determination using CERCHAR method. The test is performed
according to the ASTM D7625-10 standard and is intended to determine the
abrasiveness for design of TBM tunneling equipment.
ultrasonic rock tests based on determining the speed of longitudinal and
transverse waves spreading in rock samples. The test is a fast, non-destructive
method of assessing the quality of rock samples and their homogeneity.
Numeric Modeling
of Geotechnical Problems
A methodology for calculation of the interaction of intersecting structures
in the Plaxis 3D Tunnel software has been developed in response to the needs
resulting from the companys participation in large infrastructure projects. Such
structures can be, for example, two perpendicular tunnels, a tunnel with a con-
struction pit secured with anchors, or even multiple simultaneous structures.
The methodology has been used during surface settlement calculations during
TBM operation on metro line V.A, where an access tunnel will be constructed
using the NATM method from a construction pit secured with anchors.
TBM tunnels will subsequently arrive into this tunnel and will further continue
out the other side. A numeric model has dened deformations caused by driving
of all three tunnels and, at the same time, considered the change of geostatic
loading caused by the construction pit excavation.

Underground Structures
Department
There have been ongoing innovations of monitoring assessment methods in city
tunnels, in particular of continuous geotechnical supervision and assessment
of differences between the encountered condition of the rock massif and that
which was expected in the survey.
Methodology of subsidence trough prediction over driven tunnels, including
its impact on surface development located within the vicinity, has been impro-
ved in relation to the works on research projects and geotechnical monitoring
works performed on tunnel projects.
BARAB

Database System
The company continued to develop the BARAB

database system intended for

collection, archiving, analysis, interpretation and presentation of collected geo-
technical monitoring data. Continuous response and actions were taken mainly
with regard to the requirements from tunnel projects and from the metro line
V.A extension.
Engineering Geodesy Department
A continuous deformation metering system with optical total stations equipped
with remote data transmission has been successfully tested and implemented
in practice during the metro V.A project.
A new software program temporarily named OvT has been designed
and developed to ensure linkage between the data measured during
TBM driving. This solution is unique.
Continuous measured data ow from the Hvzda and Domy na ervenm
vrchu objects enabled continuation of analysis of of continuous monitoring
detection capabilities. New software has been developed for automatic identi-
cation of changes in trends in monitored quantities over time.
