Vol. 2, Issue 12=========================================================March 26, 2013 ---------------- Lifestyle ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Book Review: The Holy Kingdom, a Look at Our Forgotten Legacy Words and Photographs by B. Thao Lompoc, Calif. It is a sad truth that history is written by the victors.; it is even more painful when archaeologists and historiographers have been able to unearth the truth, only to have it pushed assigned as fallacy. Such has been the case with the history of the Welsh and Britons, particularly that of King Arthur I and King Arthur II, as made public by Alan Wilson and Baram Blackett. In The Holy Kingdom: The Quest for the Real King Arthur, Adrian Gilbert narrates a very believable history of Britain and Europe with the facts provided by Wilson and Blackett A majority of these facts have been gleamed from the oral traditions of the Welsh with corroboration from the written histories provided by the Romans and their successors as well as the archaeological evidence and memorials left by the Welsh kings themselves. As the Romans and their successors were to right histories which were beneficial to themselves, the written evidence for King Arthur is scant. This is compounded with the general disdain for the native Britons and Welsh which has been fostered since the Anglo-Saxon and Norman conquests which were completed in the 11th century. Thankfully, the Welsh maintained a strong underground tradition of maintaining their oral and written histories. Furthermore, the Welsh landscape is still littered with place names that correspond to their oral traditions. While oral traditions may not be acceptable to some people, they must remember that Columbus was not the discoverer of the New World. Archaeologists have been able to locate and unearth the Icelandic settlements on the New World that were described in Icelandic oral and written traditions dating to roughly 200 years before Columbus found the Americas. These same traditions relate the most plausible histories of King Arthur as well as provide an insightful glimpse into the Holy Grail. This of course, requires that reader is open minded. This book is highly recommended for the antiquarian who genuinely wants to know the truth.
