Amir Mateens profiles on political parties are little more than sleazy character assassinations of leading politicians that

belong in tabloid gossip magazines, not serious newspapers. Despite having 24-years of experience, Mateen has spent the past several weeks writing sensational special reports against the nations top political leaders that are filled with juicy gossip and slanderous innuendo, but fail to provide any actual evidence or journalistic merit. Amir Mateen has recently written a series of gossip column articles on Malik Riaz and his business skills that complains The real power behind Malik Riaz accusing Pakistan Army that says We might blame the politicians for buckling under the might of Malik Riaz but the real power behind the man is the military brass. Mateen, unfortunately, provides no answers. Instead, he dishes out the same yellow journalism and character assassination that brought us to the point of his original complaint. Consider this analysis by Mateen In hundreds of cases where Malik Riaz is always the judge, jury and the hangman. Don Riaz gets away most of the time Mateen, of course, offers no evidence. He simply says this as if idle gossip it is a proper replacement for actual investigative reporting. Actually, idle gossip makes up most of the article. Consider the following Not much is known about one of the richest man in Pakistan except for the bits that he has told about himself. Even Wikipedia says that the details are sketchy on how a small-time laborer climbed up the ladder to become the 10th richest man of Pakistan with assets worth $800 million Think of how many different issues could have been asked about. Inflation, militancy, corruption, constitutionbut instead all that Mateen and his gossip brigade care about is somebodys private affairs? What a waste. This is truly a pity because a thorough and well reported profile of different political parties and their positions on important issues would be a great asset to the people as they evaluate their choices. But Amir Mateen is not providing fact-based reporting, merely rumors, sleazy gossip, and character assassination.

It looks though that Amir Mateens anger on Gen. Musharraf is being taken out on Pakistan Army and Malik Riaz as he has been victim of General Pervez Musharraf's hit brigade against journalists and media. One should ask Mateen instead of writing on repeated rumors Why dont you write on Bahria Town as a functioning state within a nonfunctioning one. The government should take these communities as a model and replicate them. Pakistan must get through this terrorism phase. Why dont you write on Imran Khan? Imran Khan is going to have very hurt feelings! Write on Chaudhry Nisar and Co who managed to cancel the $45 Billion Deal between Bahria Town and Abu Dhabi Group. Dare and write on serious issues like situation in Karachi and role of MQM. In 2010, Amir Mateens script writing seems to have disappointed The Godfather of wild storylines, Amirs mentor Shaheen Sehbai. Sehbai showed Mateen how to really write an attack column. I suppose Mr. Mateen only invites his own enemies to dinner. Any profession has rules that must be followed. Police cannot arrest a man simply because they do not like his face. Judges cannot sentence a man simply because they do not like his family. Politicians cannot take money for themselves simply because they are in power. And journalists cannot be political operatives if they are also to be trusted to report the news. Pakistan has a free media which should be a national asset. Instead, it is quickly becoming a noise machine.
