Assignment 1

What you have to do

This assignment is designed to give you an opportunity to evaluate and make recommendations for improving policies, procedures and processes for the management, selection and induction of employees in an organisation of your choice. The project report should be approximately 1200 1500 words, excluding appendices.

Task 1

The report should be structured to incorporate the following: 1. One page overview by giving a description of the organisation selected describing : The nature of the business of the organisation Its design and structure Its culture The organisations strategic and operational plans 2. Identify (or create) and analyse the organisations goals and objectives for recruitment, selection and induction. Evaluate their effectiveness including commenting on how well they align with the organisations strategic and operational plans. 3. Using the information you have gathered in the previous question now undertake human resource planning for staffing your organisation and document the processes and outcomes as follows: Who did you consult with to determine the staffing needs and why were these people the most appropriate? How did you determine the staffing needs i.e. what methods did you use? How did you ensure the accuracy of the position (job) descriptions and person specifications used as part of the HRP process and why would this be considered an important part of the HRP process? What are the staffing needs for the organisation?

What is the available supply both inside and outside the organisation to meet these needs? What are your recommendations for meeting any short between demand and supply of staff 4. The human resource planning process in any organisation will no doubt result in the need for recruitment and selection action to be taken. Describe the training and assistance you would recommend for staff within your organisation. Who would be involved in such action? Attach the training program you would recommend, including details of when, where, what who and how the program would be conducted. Although you are not required to do a cost analysis, you should include an estimate of the costs involved. 5. In preparation for the new staff your organisation will employ, review the current induction program. In documenting the results of your review, particularly comment on the following points and make recommendations as appropriate. The adequacy of the training and assistance provided to those involved in the induction process. Strategies in place to ensure that inductions are completed in accordance with the organisations induction plan. Management and support of new employees during the probationary period especially in the area of structured on-going feedback. Methods used to gain feedback from all the stakeholders involved in the induction process i.e. what improvements have been made to the process as a result of the feedback gained.
