Students are responsible for registering for classes and for verifying their class schedules on e-campus. Ctrl click on this link for important deadlines for dropping course Withdrawal Deadlines Participation/Homework: Attendance is mandatory. We will use our weekly meetings to learn more about local Spanish speakers and their interactions with public safety officials as well as analysis and support of your experiences thus far. Your instructor and your classmates depend on you to be present every day to take part in class activities designed for the participation of all students. Films/documentaries will be viewed outside of class and questions assigned for homework should be completed and brought to class for discussion. Failure to complete homework will negatively impact your grade in this category.

Attendance: Regular, punctual class attendance is expected. The only exception will be for JMU sponsored events or illness; in each of these cases, written notes from JMU sponsors or health care providers will be required for the absence to be acceptable. It will be the student's responsibility to make up any work missed due to an acceptable absence. An unacceptable absence will result in a 10 point reduction. Students are expected to come to class with assignments completed and prepared to contribute to discussions, activities, etc. Disability Accommodations: Students with disabilities who require reasonable accommodations to fully participate in course activities and/or meet course requirements are strongly encouraged to register with the Office of Disability Services (ODS, Wilson Learning Center 107, phone/TTY 8-6705, www.jmu.edu/ods) and contact me to discuss access issues. In order to make accommodations I will need an Access Plan Letter from ODS prior to making any accommodations. JMU abides by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, which mandate reasonable accommodations be provided for students with documented disabilities. If you have a disability and may require some type of instructional and/or examination accommodations, please contact me early in the semester so that I can provide or facilitate provision of accommodations you may need. If you have not already done so, you will need to register with the Office of Disability Services, the designated office on campus to provide services for students with disabilities. If you have any illness or issues that could cause you to have a prolonged absence, for more information, Ctrl click on this link for the Ombudsman Academic Honesty: The JMU Honor Code is to be observed in the preparation of class assignments, papers, projects, quizzes and tests. The instructor will indicate any assignments that may or may not be done in collaboration with other persons. The JMU Honor Code is available from the Honor Council Web site: http://www.jmu.edu/honor/code.shtml Adding/Dropping Course: Students are responsible for registering for classes and for verifying their class schedules on e-campus. The deadline for adding a fall semester class through e-campus without instructor and academic unit head signatures is usually within the first two weeks after classes begin (May and summer terms are within the first week). Be sure you pay attention to these dates! They are updated for each academic year at: http://www.jmu.edu/registrar/academiccalendars.shtml. You must obtain signatures of the instructor and academic unit head to add a class for fall semester. No exceptions will be made to these deadlines. Inclement Weather Policies: Decisions to close university operations (those operations that do not operate in emergency or inclement weather conditions) will be made by the President or a designee. Individual vice presidents, deans, directors, department heads and supervisors are not authorized to make closing decisions in their areas. The President or a designee may make such a decision at any time during the calendar year to protect the best interest and welfare of the university community. JMUs cancellation policy can be viewed at http://www.jmu.edu/JMUpolicy/1309.shtml. Religious Observation Accommodations: All faculty are required to give reasonable and appropriate accommodations to students requesting them on grounds of religious observation. The faculty member determines what accommodations are appropriate for his/her course. Students should notify the faculty by no later than the end of the Drop-Add period the first week of the semester of potential scheduled absences and determine with the instructor if mutually acceptable alternative methods exist for completing the missed classroom time, lab or activity. The instructor reserves the right to amend the syllabus, including revising assignments and evaluation as necessary.
