Format of Internship Report

(Finance and Banking & Finance) Title Page: Give the title page of the report according to the format given at the end of this format. Certificate of Internship: The copy of internship letter should be attached at the second page of the report. Acknowledgement: Write name and show your sign at the end of acknowledgement. Table of Contents: (Follow the outline given in next page of this format) Details of contents: (Follow the guidelines given after the outline of table of contents)

Guidelines for Writing Internship Report:


Page: Page should be of A4 size. Paper weight should be of 75 gram. Font: Times New Roman, font size 12. Justification: The whole document must be fully (left + right) justified. Spacing: The body of the report should have 1.5 line spacing. Margin: 3cm all round. Paragraphs and Sections: Extra blank line before and after every section and subsection. Paragraphs must be separated by blank line. Paragraphs must be justified. Headings & Subheadings: All headings and their subheadings should be properly formatted using heading rules. Punctuations: Space after each punctuation mark (such as ; . , etc) Page Numbering: Every page should be numbered. The page numbers should start with 1 from the first page of your chapter 1. All the pages before the first chapter should be given Roman numbers (i, ii, iii, etc.) Spelling & Grammar Check: Apply Spelling & Grammar check feature of MS word on whole document (report).

Give the table of contents as mentioned above. However, the sub-headings of product lines, various departments details, ratio analysis, etc should also be given in the list of contents.

Detail of each content should be given according to the following instructions: 1. Executive summary: The Executive summary should be given about the report in which it should be described that what kind of information the whole report contains. 2. Objectives of Studying the Organization: The students should state their objectives of doing internship i.e. what do they want to achieve by studying the selected organization? Whether these objectives have been achieved or not, etc. The objectives should be of learning based. 3. Overview of the Organization: 3.1. History of the organization This content should include the history of the organization which has been selected for the internship training. It should not be more than 2 pages. 3.2. Nature of the Organization This content should include the detail of business activities in which the organization is involved. It should not be more than 2 pages. 3.3. Business Volume Latest five years data in a tabular form in terms of revenue, deposits, advances, investments, etc should be quoted in this content. Students should also give data source (i.e. from where the quoted data have been taken) and Analytical comments in terms of increasing/decreasing trend. 3.4. Number of Employees The number of employees-breakup should be given cadre (designation) wise, and department wise. It should be in tabular form (including 2 columns i.e. Designation and Number of Employees.) 3.5. Product Lines In this content, various products offered by the organization should be discussed in detail. Avoid copying directly from internet/documents of the organization. Also dont use pronouns in the report.

4. Organizational Structure: 4.1. Head Office The organizational structure of Head Office should be described in terms of reporting lines (i.e. who reports to whom). Select any three or four hierarchies from the organizational chart of head office, list down their job responsibilities in bullet form (not more than 5) and then describe their reporting relationship that they reports to whom. Attach the organizational chart of the Head office in Annexes at the end of report and provide a note about its attachment at the end of the content detail. 4.2. Branch The organizational structure of Branch should be described in terms of reporting lines (i.e. who reports to whom). Select any three or four hierarchies from the organizational chart of head office, list down their job responsibilities in bullet form (not more than 5) and then describe their reporting relationship that they reports to whom. Attach the organizational chart of the Branch in Annexes at the end of report and provide a note about its attachment at the end of the content detail. 4.3. Various Departments Details Give the detail of various departments of the overall organization in terms of their functions and responsibilities, etc. 5. Structure of Finance/Accounts Department: 5.1. Description of the Finance/Accounts Structure The structure of Finance/Accounts department should be described in terms of reporting lines (i.e. who reports to whom). Select any three or four hierarchies from the organizational chart of head office, list down their job responsibilities in bullet form (not more than 5) and then describe their reporting relationship that they reports to whom. Attach the organizational chart of the Finance/Accounts Department in Annexes at the end of report and provide a note about its attachment at the end of the content detail.

5.2.

Finance and Accounts Operations Describe the working of finance and Accounts department (where training carried out. How are accounting information generated, recorded and used? Give practical illustration).

5.3.

Role of Financial Managers The role of Managers should be discussed in establishing/maintaining relationships with other industrial institutions in terms of accounts, management and production management, etc. The role of CEO may be discussed as an overall financial manager.

5.4.

Use of Electronic Data in Decision Making In this content, describe the different types of software being used by the organization. Also discuss the different types of reports being produced for management use.

5.5.

Sources of Funds This content includes the sources from where the organization obtains its funds to run. Quote latest five years figures of those sources in a tabular form. Also give the data source and Analytical comments with it.

5.6.

Generation of Funds Quote latest five years figures along with it in a tabular form. Also give the data source and Analytical comments with it.

5.7.

Allocation of Funds Quote latest five years figures along with it in a tabular form. Also give the data source and Analytical comments with it.

5.8.

Mobilization of Funds (for the students of MBA-Finance only) Quote latest five years figures along with it in a tabular form. Also give the data source and Analytical comments with it.

6. Critical Analysis of the organization: Critical analysis of the theoretical concepts relating to practical experiences i.e. relate the theoretical concepts with practical experience during Internship.

7. Financial Analysis of the organization: 7.1. Ratio Analysis In ratio Analysis, Atleast 15 ratios should be calculated. Calculations and Analytical comments (i.e. by giving specific reasons that why any ratio increases or decreases from period to period) should be given with each ratio. Each category of ratio should be covered in the ratio analysis if applicable including liquidity, profitability, leverage/solvency, investor analysis, Efficiency/Activity, Special industry analysis ratios. 7.2. Horizontal analysis of balance sheet for the last five years Take one base year and compare all the four years to the base year. Analyze the trends of the calculation of horizontal analysis by giving specific reasons that why any item increases or decreases from period to period. 7.3. Horizontal analysis of income statement for the last five years Take one base year and compare all the four years to the base year. Analyze the trends of the calculation of horizontal analysis by giving specific reasons that why any item increases or decreases from period to period. 7.4. Vertical analysis of balance sheet for last five years Analyze the trends of the calculation of vertical analysis by giving specific reasons that why any item increases or decreases from period to period. 7.5. Vertical analysis of income statement for the last five years In case of banks take interest income plus noninterest income as 100% and compare all other income statement figures with it. Analyze the trends of the calculation of vertical analysis by giving specific reasons that why any item increases or decreases from period to period. 8. Organizational Analysis: Take 3 or 4 competitors of the selected organization which are also listed on stock exchange. Then Compare its data with its competitors in terms of total assets, total liabilities, revenue, etc. Quote the data in tabular form. Give data source and also discuss analytical comments based on the data below the table. 9. Future Prospects: This should be based on the overall analysis/evaluation of the organization by the students and should be supported by the managements vision/strategy for the future.

10. Weaknesses of the organization: Identify weaknesses of the organization with main focus on financial management. Based on the overall analysis of the organization, highlight the weak areas that need management attention. 11. Conclusion: The students should conclude here the information which they have discussed in the whole report. The conclusion must not be more than 1 page. 12. Recommendations: The recommendations should be given for eliminating/minimizing the highlighted weaknesses and for overall improvement of the organization. 13. References: Student should follow proper style for referencing. The APA format has been provided in the manual of internship report for student guidance. 14. Annexes: Following annexes must be attached in annexes: 14.1. 14.2. 14.3. 14.4.
