Dear Riverside Middle School Parents/Guardians: Dress code policy is a standard practice that we believe is appropriate for the

school. School dress should reflect the fact that students are at school for the purpose of education, not recreation. The school requests that parents help enforce the dress code by ensuring that students are appropriately attired before leaving home. The heart of this Code is simplekhaki, black or blue shorts/pants/skirts and a collared polo shirt in school colorsnavy blue, white or gray. Students who wish to vary this basic look must abide by the rules below. 1. Students may wear sweatshirts or fleece pullovers in solid RMS colors black, navy blue, white or gray. 2. Students may wear sweaters in solid RMS colors black, navy blue, white or gray NO STRIPED OR PATTERNED SWEATERS ARE ALLOWED. 3. Students may wear pants, shorts, skirts or jumpers in khaki, black or blue. Lace, striped or otherwise patterned material is not permitted. 4. Shirts must be fully tucked in once students enter the building in the morning and through the end of the school day. 5. Low necklines that expose cleavage or undergarments are not allowed. Shirts must be buttoned to provide adequate coverage. 6. NO COATS ARE TO BE WORN IN THE CLASSROOMS and HALLWAYS. Coats should be placed in the lockers. 7. All skirts must be no shorter than 4 inches above the top of the kneecap. 8. Overly baggy or tight clothing is not allowed. Tights or leggings may not be worn alone, or under shorts/skirts that are not of the required length. Shorts should be no shorter than mid-thigh length. 9. Capri pants are allowed 10. Belts are required for pants, skirts, or shorts that have belt loops. 11. Hats are not to be worn at school. 12. Nose studs and other exotic body piercing are not permitted. 13. Proper footwear is required. Please abide by the following: a. Shoes that have laces must be laced, tied and fit. b. No high heels. c. No flip-flops, beach sandals, or bedroom slippers. d. Students are discouraged from wearing sandals without straps in the back for safety reasons. e. Students may not wear boots or shoes that extend above the ankle. 14. Because we have been accommodating with our dress code we have had inconsistencies. Following Spring Break, we will be returning to the standards found in the Martin County Board of Education School Policy. Please work with us, to make sure your student is following the Dress Code Policy.
