Organized collection of data or information on one or more subjects, or for a particular purpose.

Diaries, files, or record books (however small) are data banks.

data bank: 1. A set of data related to a given subject and organized in such a way that it can be consulted by users. 2. A data repository accessible by local and remote users. (188) Note: A data bank may contain information on single or multiple subjects, may be organized in any rational manner, may contain more than onedatabase, and may be geographically distributed. More than one data bank may be required to build a comprehensive database.

Abstract This thesis discusses the design and implementation of a software component that faciliates the specication, management, and execution of so-called workows. The discussion of this components design includes the semantics and syntax of the underlying workow model as well as the actual software design. The former builds upon the Workow Patterns [BK03] terminology, the latter on the concepts of a Workow Virtual Machine [SF04] and the idea that a workow system should be comprised of loosely coupled components

This thesis is focusing on designing a DSS to facilitate Human Resource Management decisions for the Hellenic Navy. A mathematical, multi-criteria optimization model was designed and a software environment implemented employing this model to make job assignment decisions. The rationale was to develop a software solution able to adapt in the most automated way possible to different issues concerning HRM. Assigning HRM resources in an optimal way while considering multiple criteria is a very difficult task. There are many attributes to be taken into account some of which contradict each other. The human mind has limitations when dealing with multi attribute problems and the associated set of multiple tradeoffs. Providing a mathematical solution to the problem with the ability to evaluate tradeoffs could provide useful insight to decision makers and help reduce bias in the overall HRM assignment process. Design and implementation of such a system is the purpose of this thesis.

Abstract Database Management Systems (DBMSs) are a ubiquitous and critical component of modern computing, and the result of decades of research and development in both academia and industry. Historically, DBMSs were among the earliest multi-user server systems to be developed, and

thus pioneered many systems design techniques for scalability and reliability now in use in many other contexts. While many of the algorithms and abstractions used by a DBMS are textbook material, there has been relatively sparse coverage in the literature of the systems design issues that make a DBMS work. This paper presents an architectural discussion of DBMS design principles, including process models, parallel architecture, storage system design, transaction system implementation, query processor and optimizer architectures, and typical shared components and utilities. Successful commercial and open-source systems are used as points of reference, particularly when multiple alternative designs have been adopted by dierent groups. Abstract
This paper deals with the components of the automated information support system. The system is designed for processing of remote and contact measurements of environment. It was developed at the computation centre of the Scientific and Industrial Association for Space Research on the basis of EC computer. The data organization, language and programming facilities of ground and remotely sensed data bank. The paper reports on the architecture of the specialized data bank of subsatellite experiments. Information and program components of the data bank are considered. It is found necessary to use the data base for storage of the data obtained during the multilevel subsatellite experiments. The place of the data bank in the automated data processing system.

The overall framework in which software is conceived, developed, and main- tained is known as the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). This chapter ...
