used for proof of identity for voting purposes shall substantially conform to the name on the voter registration record. Miner also urged voters to take their Voter Identification Cards to the polls with them. "That Voter Identification Card is like an insurance policy," Miner said. "If we in the election system have made any errors, you can vote on the strength of that Voter ID Card." Miner went on to say that the voter identification card must show the voter to be registered in the precinct, and that the voter must fill out a voter registration application form, sign an affidavit, and turn in the voter identification card. "After the election, we will mail a new voter card to the person." Miner said that voters who want to be processed quickly should vote during mid-morning or mid-afternoon, as those are the two slowest periods for voting during the day. "Anyone who is eligible and at the polling place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday will be entitled to vote," she added.

The name on a document used for proof of identity for voting purposes shall substantially conform to the name on the voter registration record. "In-person absentee voters will complete an application form when they arrive at the office. They are not required to state a reason for voting in-person absentee." Miner said. "They are required to swear that they have not voted a regular mail absentee ballot and that they will not vote at their polling places on election day." According to Miner, the Absentee Voting Board will verify the voter's registration information, then will issue the correct ballots. The voter will mark them in the privacy of a voting booth and insert them into a voting device. "It is very much like voting at a precinct polling place," said Miner. For more information, contact the County Election Board office located at 500 Harrison Street, Courthouse Room 101. The telephone number is 918-762-2125.

Not too late to vote by absentee

Registered voters in Pawnee County who want to vote by absentee ballot in next Tuesday's Municipal Election, City of Cleveland and Town of Jennings, and Special Election, Woodland School District, have missed the deadline to apply for a ballot to be mailed to them, County Election Board Secretary Tonda Miner said today. "They aren't out of luck, however," Miner said. Registered voters who want to vote absentee still can receive and cast a ballot by going to the County Election Board office on Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1. A two-member, bipartisan Absentee Voting Board will be on duty from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Friday to assist absentee voters. Each person appearing to vote at the in-person absentee polling place will need to provide proof of identity. Documents that may be used for "Proof of Identity" for voting purposes shall include, but may not be limited to, the following: (1) A valid Oklahoma driver license (2) A valid Oklahoma state identification card (3) A voter identification card issued by the County Election Board in the county of the voter's residence (4) A temporary voter identification document issued by the County Elec-

Physically incapacitated voters can vote in election

Registered voters in Pawnee County who become physically incapacitated after 5 p.m. Tuesday won't have to miss the Special Election, Woodland School District, County Election Board Secretary Tonda L. Miner said today. Miner said state law permits registered voters who will be unable to go to the polls because they became incapacitated after 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, to vote on an emergency basis. "Physical incapacitation" includes a variety of conditions---injury, illness, childbirth---that prevent a person from voting in person at the polls on election day. "If you think that you or someone you know fits into this category, contact the County Election Board office at 762-2125 as soon as possible for more information," Miner said.

Polls open 7 to 7 on April 2

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 for the Special Election, Woodland School District. Tonda L. Miner, Secretary of the Pawnee County Election Board, offered voters some tips on how to make their

votes count. Miner said that a valid marking---a filled-in box--is shown on posters at the polling place and inside the voting booths. If voters make mistakes marking their ballots, Miner said they should not try to correct those errors. Instead, voters should return the spoiled ballot to the Precinct Officials, who will destroy it and issue a new ballot to the voter. Each person appearing

to vote at the precinct polling place on election day will have to provide proof of identity. Documents that may be used for "Proof of Identity" for voting purposes shall include, but may not be limited to, the following: (1) A valid Oklahoma diver license (2) A valid Oklahoma state identification card (3) A voter identification card issued by the County Election Board in the county of the voter's residence (4) A temporary voter identification document issued by the County Election Board in the county of the voter's residence (5) A United States Passport (6)A United States military identification (7) Any other document issued by the state of Oklahoma, the United States government, or a federally recognized tribal government which includes the person's name, a photograph of the person and an expiration date that is later than election day.
