Brochure
Description: Create a either an informational or advertising brochure. Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator CS6, Adobe Photoshop CS3, Adobe InDesign CS6, pen tool, selection tool, guides, quick selection tool, fill, and brushes. Date: April 1, 2013 Course: Comm 130 Visual Media Instructor: Brother Lybert Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. Process:
I started by folding a piece of paper the way I wanted my brochure to fold and marking the measurements of the folds. I then opened up Adobe InDesign and created a 2 page landscape document and dragged the ruler guides to the measurements I had recorded earlier. I filled page one with black and I created rectangles to fill page 2 with the colors blue, yellow, and magenta. I looked for the pictures I was going to use on google images and deleted the white backgrounds on all of them so I would have the hand silhouettes only. I made two copies of the hand and cropped one to the right and the other to the left to make a left hand and a right hand and I placed them against the edges of the first page so that the front of my brochure would fold up to the full image. I then placed the A, S, and L images on the inside center of the brochure. I made curves with the pen tool and I put those on the edges of the pink and yellow rectangles to give the effect of a cut out. I typed what is asl? along the pen line on the bottom right and added the other headlines. I then created text boxes and added in my text. Finally I placed my logo in the back.

Programs Used: Photoshop, Coolpix L26, magic wand, desaturate, selective color, and dark strokes filter Date: February 8, 2013 Course: Comm 130 Visual Media Instructor: Brother Lybert Objectives: Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image. Process: I first took a picture of balloons in my roommates bathroom with my Coolpix L26 camera and uploaded it to my laptop. I opened it with Photoshop CS3 and cropped it using a fixed 66 inch ratio. I selected some balloons and inverted the selection to desaturate the background and then selected only the background and applied a dark strokes filter on it. I adjusted the balance to 6, the black intensity to 5, and the white intensity to 10. I then selected the colored balloons again and used selective color on them to make the colors brighter.

Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS. Identify hex colors for web design. Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file. Process: I started with an html outline provided by brother Lybbert and changed the content to personalize it. I indented the sections, inserted my logo, wrote it in my own words, and moved the line break to the bottom right above my wordpress website information. I also added a bulleted list. I then linked it with the css document by adding <link rel=stylesheet type=text/css href=demo.css/> to the html. I changed all of the things I mentioned above and I added an image tag to center my logo. The rest of the body text i aligned left. I found the right hex numbers for my color choices by using the eyedropper tool in Photoshop and copying/pasting the numbers in the style sheet. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. Process: I started out designing a simple logo in Adobe Illustrator CS6. I wrote my initials, RC, in a script font and I created outlines out of that font so I could change its appearance and overlap the letters. I then wrote events underneath in Orator STD and spaced them out to be the same width as RC. I change the color to pink and added a lighter pink rectangle around it. I placed the logo image in an 8.511 document on InDesign and drew a pink rectangle to match the one from the logo and extended it across the page. I duplicated the rectangle and placed it on the bottom. I wrote my contact information and alligned it right. I placed the wedding gown outline as a watermark by changing the opacity to 5%.

Course: Comm 130 Visual Media Instructor: Brother Lybert Objectives: Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact. Process: The images for this flier were provided. I started with a sketch to figure out what kind of alignment would better suit the theme of the flier. I decided to create a clean line along the left side of the page and added a marquee to the top and bottom sides to aid in flow. Placement of text was challenging at first because I wanted the flier to be balanced in contrast and white space. I finally chose to place the DTP on the bottom right to achieve said balance.

Event Ad

Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word. Process: I first scanned the image of the little girl from the Ensign. I decided my event was going to be something girly since the little girl looked so innocent and young. I changed the shape of the image and added the text with a Disney theme in mind.
