Q) What is NEET? NEET stands for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test. It is a common entrance exam for all government and private medical colleges across thecountry. It has been proposed for: Undergraduate (NEET-UG) medical courses such as MBBS and BDS Postgraduate (NEET-PG) medical courses such as M.S. and M.D

Q) What are the objectives of NEET? It has been designed to reduce the number of entrance tests students have to go through thereby easing the stress they endure. It will be governed by the Medical Council of India and will be conducted by CBSE NEET will replace AIPMT, AFMC and other state-level CET such as Delhi-PMT, MHCET, R-PMT, WBJEE, EAMCET etc. (AIIMS and PGIMS, Chandigarh do not come under the aegis of NEET)

Who will conduct NEET? The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducting the NEET for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses in the session 2013-14.

What are the important dates? NEET is proposed to be conducted on May 5, 2013. The application forms shall be available in 2nd week of November 2012.

How to apply? A student will be able to apply either online or offline as per his/ her convenience.

What is the application fee? The application fee is Rs. 1000 for unreserved category and Rs. 550 for reserved category.

What are the eligibility criteria? Age eligibility: Minimum 17 yrs (5 yrs relaxation for SC/ST/OBC category students) Academic eligibility: General category: 50% marks in physics, chemistry and biology taken together in class XII examination. SC/ST/OBC category: 45% in physics, chemistry and biology taken together in class XII examination.

Entrance qualifying criteria: 50 percentile in NEET

How many attempts are there? The maximum number of attempts a student can make in this examination is 3.

What is the pattern of paper? The paper contains 180 objective-type questions with one correct answer. There are four sections-physics, chemistry, botany and zoology with 45 questions in each. The paper has to be completed in 180 minutes.

Is there any negative marking for incorrect responses? Yes, Each correct answer will get 04 marks and for each incorrect response, 01 mark will be deducted from the total score.

What about NEET merit list and ranking? National as well as state-level ranking and merit lists shall be prepared.

The National rank can be used by a student to take admission in any of the NEET affiliated MBBS college in India. The State rank can be used by a student to take admission in any of the affiliated colleges in the state from where one has done class XI and XII or holds a domicile.

What are the participating colleges? A total of 271 medical colleges recognized by the MCI come under NEET The detailed list of colleges can be obtained from http://www.mciindia.org/InformationDesk/CollegesCoursesSearch.aspx These colleges shall offer a total of 31000 seats.

What is the medium of paper? The medium of paper will be English and Hindi.

What is the evaluation procedure of the test? Marks scored in Biology section of paper (Higher marks will be placed higher in the rank) Marks scored in Chemistry section of paper (Higher marks will be placed higher in the rank) Marks scored in Physics section of paper (Higher marks will be placed higher in the rank) Total number of negative responses (Fewer negative responses will be placed higher in the rank) Date of birth (Older persons will be placed higher in the rank)

Do class 12 marks have any weightage for entry into MBBS? No, class 12 marks do not have any weightage for entry into MBBS.

What are the National and state quota? 15% seats in Government Medical Colleges filled through the Counselling conducted by DGHS (Directorate General of Health Services) are All India quota seats. Seats filled through the counselling conducted by the State Counselling Authorities and Management Quota seats of Private Medical Colleges are under State Quota seats.

When will be the result of NEET exam 2013 declared? The tentative schedule of declaration of result of NEET

UG, 2013 is end of 1st week of June, 2013.

How long is the result of a student valid? The result of successful candidates of NEET (UG) 2013 is valid for the academic session 2013-14 only.

Will the exam be offline or online? NEET (UG)-2013 will be an offline pen and paper test.
