The Question paper consists of two parts.

Part A: Ten short answer questions, two from each unit. Each question carries 2 marks (10 X 2 = 20 Marks).

Part B: Question No. 11 is compulsory and may from any one of the unit of the syllabus and carries 20 marks. Question no. 12 19, will be either or type covering the remaining units of the syllabus ( 2 questions from each unit excluding the unit in which question no. 11 is set) and each question carries 15 marks.

E21/Q11 MATHEMATICS-I (Common to B.E. and P.T.B.E. for all branches of Engineering) Objective: An engineering student needs to have some basic mathematical tools and techniques which emphasis the development of rigorous logical thinking and analytical skills. Based on this the course aims at giving adequate exposure to the theory and applications of multiple integrals, vector calculus, analytic, analytic functions. UNIT I Multiple integrals: Double integration, Cartesian and polar coordinates, Change of order of integration, Area as a double integral, Triple integration in Cartesian coordinates, Change of variables between Cartesian and polar coordinates and between Cartesian and cylindrical polar coordinators. (10) UNIT II Vector Calculus: Gradient, divergence and curl, Line, surface and Volume integrals, Greens, Gauss divergence and Stokes theorems(Without proof) Verification of the above theorems and evaluation of integrals using them. (10) UNIT III Analytic functions:Function of a complex variable, Analytic function , Necessary conditions, Cauchy Riemann equations in Cartesian and polar coordinates, Sufficient conditions(All without proof) Properties of analytic function. Determination of harmonic conjugate by Milne Thomson method, Conformal mapping az+b, z2, 1/z, ez, sin z, cos z, az+b/cz+d , Schwartz Christoffel transformation. (10) UNIT IV Complex Integration:Statement and application of Cauchys theorem and Cauchys integral formula, Taylor and Laurent expansion, Singularities, Classification, Residues, Cauchys residue theorem, Contour integration, Unit circle and semicircular contours(excluding poles on real axis) (10)
