Brochure

Description: Brochure for a travel company called Explore. Date: March 30, 2013 Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. Instructor: Eric Lybbert, COMM130 Visual Media, Section 1 Program(s) / Tools used: InDesign and Photoshop Process: I first started by finding the images that I thought would go good in my brochure, and I got a lot in order to have a few to choose from and to see which would work best. I then had to decide which fold I wanted to use, and chose to go with the off set fold. Then I started to work on it and began with the front, then the inside, and then lastly the back. I put everything where I thought I wanted to be, and just placed text boxes as place holders for the time being. Then I worked on the body copy and figured out what I wanted it to say. I had to work on the hiking image and took the sky out in order to have the text wrap around the girl. I ended up changing some things around and put images in different places, added some images, and changed the design a little bit. I went to Alphagraphics to have it printed, cut, and folded.

Event Ad
Description: Event ad for a hiking trip to the Teton Mountains. Date: February 2, 2013 Objectives: Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word. Instructor: Eric Lybbert, COMM130 Visual Media, Section 1 Program(s) / Tools used: Microsoft Word Process: I first looked through a lot of different magazines to get some ideas on what I wanted to do. Once I found an image that I thought would work well for my project, I scanned it into the computer. I then e-mailed it to myself to work on it in Word. I played around with the image look, size, and placement. Once I figured out how I wanted it, I then added some text boxes for the title and body copy of information. I then went and found a map to add a little more to my flier. I took a screen shot of the map and placed it in my flier.

Montage
Description: An inspirational montage. Date: February 16, 2013 Objectives: Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. Use filters. Apply appropriate typography. Instructor: Eric Lybbert, COMM130 Visual Media, Section 1 Program(s) / Tools used: InDesign Process: I first looked for a quote that I wanted to create a montage about. Then once I found one, I searched through lots of images for ideas on what pictures I want to use to put together. I found the image I wanted on Pinterest, then found an image that I liked, but wanted it slightly different, so I decided to take my own image. Then I worked on combining the images with masks on the layers and working on feathering the edges. I added the type last and played around with the font sizes and placement.

Stationary
Description:Stationary for the travel company Explore. Date: March 2, 2013 Objectives: Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. Instructor: Eric Lybbert, COMM130 Visual Media, Section 1 Program(s) / Tools used: InDesign Process: I first started with thinking of a company that I would want to create a business card and stationary for, and decided to just go with a made up company. I went with a travel company named Explore. I then got to work creating a logo in InDesign. I liked the idea of using a compass as the logo, and tried to create one that was simple yet still interesting. I played around with the size of it, then added the Explore title to it. I then added in the lines at the bottom and top of the page, as well as my information. I added the watermark-which is just the logo enlarged in the background- and then had to play with the opacity for a while before I found the right setting. Afterwards it was simple to create the business card by simply dragging the logo and contact information over to the card.
