"Devil's Advocate" convicted in London of being fake lawyer

An Italian man known as the "Devil's Advocate" who said he provided legal representation to the likes of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, was not a genuine lawyer but a fraudster, a jury at a London court ruled.
Giovanni Di Stefano, 57, conned clients out of large sums of money by setting himself up as a lawyer when he had no legal qualifications and was not registered to work as a lawyer in Italy or Britain. During the trial, the court heard Di Stefano had links to Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe, al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden, late Serbian strongman Slobodan Milosevic and Saddam. The court was shown a BBC documentary from 2004 in which he described Saddam as a "nice guy" and boasted of being asked to defend a number of notorious British killers such as Harold Shipman, the family doctor who murdered about 250 patients. Prosecuting lawyer David Aaronberg said he had gained a reputation which brought him "the fame, or the notoriety, that he enjoys". "He was a man who was willing to provide legal services to clients whose cases others considered unwinnable or too difficult to defend," Aaronberg said. Di Stefano was found guilty at Southwark Crown Court of 25 offences of deception, fraud, money laundering and forgery allegedly committed between 2004 and 2012. Di Stefano, who was born in the small town of Petrella Tifernina in central Italy but moved to Britain as a boy, will be sentenced later this week.

BALI THE RIGHT WAY

Gday again folks and welcome to the next edition. Its been a busy week on the island for all and sundry with the Galungan celebrations and the Easter break we all look forward to every year coming and going. It's a great time of year for a tourist to come to the island as the locals usually decorate the streets and the front of their homes and businesses with long pieces of decorated bamboo, sometimes up to 45 feet tall, signifying the Galingan celebrations. It feels like we only just got over the Nyepi period (the day of silence) and here we are seeing the passing of the next ceremony and now we only have to get through Saturdays Kunningan festivitys and its back to business as usual till the school holidays in June. A very busy time indeed. The week just passed saw aliasj@kutaweekly.com the local lad Gede Bagus get through to another round of Indonesias X-Factor, so I hope all our followers get on their phones and start texting their votes for him. Go Gede (TEXT Gede to 9288) The last two weeks saw the first round of the A.F.L season which was a split round and boy oh boy I don't think to many people put on a very good tip score for that round. There where some absolute upsets which I don't think any seasoned punter saw coming. I had the chance to catch, what I would say was the match of the round, being Carlton V Richmond, with old mate Squirtell and applaud the tigers on the very lucky and close win they took home, however unfortunate, that that most of us tipped the Blues. Old mate Squirt said that anyone who knows anything about football would have only gotten 2-3 correct tips this round and I tend to agree. The season will develop into a completely different set of top eight teams Id say. At no time was there ever any doubt that the Mighty Pies would take a loss. Karn The Pies. Moving along, but, looking back at last weeks editorial, where I crapped on about several things including politcics and asked anyone who thought differently about the Gillard team to send me an email with their view on the state of the current leadership party and their direction or lack of for inclusuon to the paper, and what can I say ? It seems that for many of the citizen of Australia the current leadership is terribly disliked, with the general view being, they will not be re-elected on election day later this year. Im surprised at the distinct and concise passion that some readers expressed in the form of emails, with one punter who obviously lives here, taking the time to drop a letter into our office in Kuta to let us know just how upset he was at the way the country has been run. Unfortunatley I am unable to publish too much that was sent in, as for the best part of the feedback there was way to much profanity and simply put, uneducated opinion on the way things should be run. Im seriously surprised as to the extent of the ill feeling the citizens of our great nation felt towards the current leadership team. Now, by no means is this a political newspaper, nor will it ever be, but, for the life of me I just don't understand why the Labour party has lost so much ground in the ratings and polls ? The way I see it is that the Aussie dollar is fairly well one of the strongest in the world with many people from all different countries wanting to invest in business with us for that purpose. We have arguably one of the best health care systems in the world that takes care of you whether you have a few quid in the bank or not, and the standard of living in the country is probably the highest of many countrys around the world. I have a friend who will attest to the fact that the health system alone is one of the best, as after he was diagnosted with a heart condition, he was fast tracked for treatment and will live many more years because of this. The fact that the pinnacle of his existance isnt what the doctor adviced has no bearing on things but at the end of the day the country that he used to call home picked up the bill without issue. We are one of the only countries in the world that has a semi decent interest rate for those of us that have managed to save some money and keep it in the bank, as if you had any money in banks in some other parts of the world, you would be actually charged with what they descibe as negative interest. Fancy that hey, it would actually cost you to keep money in the bank. Take a look at Cypress last week, if you where a citizen or expat it looked like you would lose up to 40% of your saving to help bail out the banks. I don't believe that sort of thing will ever happen in Australia, and lucky for them it didn't happen as they found another way to try and crawl out of debt. Ok you can say that there are many things that are done wrong and should change, but do you just decree a change over night when you are running a country ? or does this change take several years to implament ? Do you think that these people, that make a life decision to get into politics are doing what ever they can to upset the countries citizens ? I don't think so, and I m sure that lots of people have many different views, but for me, at the end of the day, Australia is probably the best country in the How can I trust world and no matter who is in charge, people are going to complain. I think we should you when you all concentrate on making the country as strong as we can and sell as much as we can to keep running the rest of the world further enhancing our standing on the world stage. away every Ok folks that about the most I have room to spit out for now and do hope the most of you stay safe, happy, healthy and always remmeber, nothing in the world is more time I untie you? dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. Enjoy You Week, ALIASJ..

BALI, LOCATION TO SUIT EVERYONE

JIMBARAN
Jimbaran is just south of the airport and Kuta. This was formerly a real backwater of south Bali, just a tiny fishing village with a daily market. That all started to change in the 1980s and Jimbaran is now home to several world class 5 star beach resorts, plus a few more moderate mid-market hotels. There is however little in the way of budget accommodation and there are also many high-end villas in this area, particularly on the ridges of high ground above Jimbaran Bay. This has resulted in monikers such as the "Beverly Hills of Bali" or "Millionaire's Row". The bay itself has a pleasant white sand beach and is very safe for swimming. The three clusters of grilled seafood restaurants on the beach are a major tourist draw in the evenings, as is the truly stunning sunset. Jimbaran is also home to a Norwegian University, Gateway College, with around 500 students studying athletics, philosphy, culture, economics and journalism. The school is located in Kedonganan close to Sari Segara Resort and in Jl, Bantas Kau where it also has a small cafe. Jimbaran has an increasing number of rather chic shops but there is little or no nightlife here. It has the advantage of being a little closer to Kuta and Seminyak and the cultural highlights of Central Bali.

THE BUKIT
Much has been written about this dusty, arid and rugged area, which forms the southern most tip of the island. Limestone cliffs of up to 100 meters in height provide some of the best views in the world, along with some deserted white sandy beaches. Everyone wants a piece of this are, from international hotel chains such as Bvlgari, Versace and Banyan Tree, to established residential villa developers looking for that perfect plot. The area offers secluded beaches, and exclusivity to name but a few reasons why this is fast becoming the place to be. Prices have more than tripled in the area over last 2 years alone with still plenty of potential to be realized, so now is a plan. Only a short 15 minutes drive from the international airport, The Bukit is fast being referred to as the new Millionaires Row.

The best option for you will depend on your personal situation, the type of property, risk factors and the type of investment model. Even though it states in Indonesian law that foreigners are not allowed to hold a 'freehold' land title, there are ways that have been in practice for a number of years that enable foreigners to control a freehold title indirectly or to hold a leasehold title in their own name.

Or foreigner permanently domiciled in Indonesia, or a foreign legal entity with a representative office in Indonesia such as foreign Banks, embassies, etc.

NOMINEE SYSTEM FOR HAK MILIK

This structure is a regularly practiced procedure in Indonesia, whereby the foreigner nominates and Indonesian representative to acquire the land and to hold the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the foreigner. Ownership of the land is transferred from the previous owner to the Indonesian nominee. The foreigner and the Indonesian nominee then sign an agreement which recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the legal owner of the property whilst declaring the foreigner as the rightful owner of the property. This agreement denotes that the Indonesian nominee will carry out any directives from the foreigner regarding the land. This agreement must always be concluded in the presence of a public notary.

RIGHT OF USE (HAK PAKAI)

This is the right of use over state-owned (crown land) or property owned by public or private persons/entities for a specific purpose for (generally) a finite period and occasionally for an indefinite period. This land right may not be sold, exchanged or transferred unless explicitly state in an agreement. Hak pakai may be held by and Indonesian individual or entity.

Capricorn December 22 to January 20

Avoid being too brisk and brusque with others on Friday, as your business side goes into overdrive. People respect your professional approach, but they also appreciate the personal touch. The focus is firmly on domestic matters on Sunday, as Venus and Mars help the family pull together in positive and proactive ways. The more support you give loved ones, the better.

Leo July 24 to August 23

You'll tend to go to extremes this week Lions, as Jupiter and Pluto press your 'let's overdo everything' button. And resist the temptation to be a right royal bossy-boots [especially when you don't get your way]. If you do your fair share of domestic chores, it will keep housemates happy. But if you don't pull your weight then expect some unpleasant consequences.

Aquarius January 21 to February 19

Avant-garde Aquarians love to think about the future, where everything is exciting and new. This week's stars encourage you to reflect on your personal history, as you use the past to reshape your present. From Friday onwards, jolly Jupiter invites you to let your hair down and indulge in life's little luxuries good food, good wine, good living and good loving.

Virgo August 24 to September 23

If you're searching for smart ways to make more money, don't try to re-invent the wheel look to successful role-models for novel ideas. But be careful what you say to a stressed relative. Make sure you choose your words wisely! Love and lust are on your mind on Sunday, as Venus and Mars join forces in your intimacy zone. Research and study are also favoured.

Pisces February 20 to March 20

Your intuitive self shines brightly on Friday and Saturday, as the Moon meanders through your spirituality zone. Then Venus and Mars unite in your cash zone on Sunday, which stimulates your urge to splurge money on extravagant purchases that you don't really need. So perhaps it would be best for smart Pisceans to avoid Sunday shopping both in person and online.

Pennsylvania stadium aims to please fans with urinal video games

Play doesn't need to stop for sports fans taking a bathroom break at a Pennsylvania minor league baseball stadium that has installed video games in men's room urinals.
The "hands-free" video game is played by directing oneself right or left in the urinals at the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs' CocaCola Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The game is aimed at increasing prostate health awareness. The video screens challenge players to steer their way along a snowmobile course, while trying to hit cartoon penguins. They also display messages reminding men to make an appointment for a prostate exam, Schaeffer said. Names of high scorers deft enough to hit the target mirrored on a 12-inch LCD screen above the urinal will appear on other contestants' urinals and on the video displays in the ballpark. The "hands free" urinal players can go by their full name, part or their name or a pseudonym when their scores are tallied. The urinal video games will commence when the baseball games start for the Iron Pigs, a minor league team affiliated with the Philadelphia Phillies. The team opens its 2013 season next week. The Iron Pigs bought the restroom entertainment, described as the "world's only truly hands free urinal game controller," from Captive Media, a company based in the United Kingdom, said IronPigs spokesman Jon Schaeffer. While the games have been placed in bars in the United Kingdom, their appearance in the Allentown stadium marks a first in the world of sports, said Ed Gundrum, who oversees sales for the company in the U.S. "They told us with certainty that it's not in any other sports venue in the world," Schaeffer said. The "p-controlled" video games, which were undergoing "calibration" are in bars in the United Kingdom, Schaeffer said. The games, part of a marketing agreement with the Lehigh Valley Health Network, are intended to remind men about the importance of prostate health, the baseball team said in a news release.

Surfing Bali
Bali is part of the Indonesian archipelago of 18,700 islands and lies approximately 8C south of the equator. The majority of the population of Bali are (Balinese) Hindu, a unique mixture of Hinduism & Buddhism. The unique religion and culture of the Balinese people is one of the reasons the island remained an oasis of peace and calm throughout the chaotic times in Indonesia since the fall of the Suharto dictatorship in 1999 and has helped sustain the spirit of the island during the last few years as Bali and the Balinese people have suffered their own turbulent times of unbelievable sorrow and the resulting economic hardships. Bali is blessed by nature with a short, hot wet season and a longer, cooler, dry season and tourists flock here all year round. Many tourists choose to arrive in the dry season - which nowadays appears to cover a longer period from April to late November. The busiest period is during the holiday season of August, which is also the coolest month on this Island of the Gods. Contrary to popular belief, Bali's waves were being surfed by both visiting and local surfers as early as the late 1930s and not, as popular surfing legend has it, that the island of Bali was first discovered as a great surfing destination by a group of Australian surfers. Although, when these first Australian surfers began arriving on the island of Bali in 1967 they introduced the island to the first serious surfing equipment. While Bali may no longer be a "frontier" surf destination, it still lies at the heart of the Indonesian surfing experience and is a mandatory stopover for anyone on their first surfing trip to Indonesia. Bali is also the first and last stop for most of the surfers traveling on to some of the legendary breaks in G-Land, Lombok or Sumbawa, or the more distant areas of East Nusa Tenggara, Mentawais and North Sumatra. Bali has traditionally been the starting point for nearly all Indonesian surfing tours. Bali boasts over 20 top quality breaks on the southwest and southeast coasts of the island and around the Bukit (Uluwatu) Peninsula. Some of these, like Padang Padang & Uluwatu, are world class barreling reefbreaks. Others range from fun waves on the beach-breaks around Kuta and Sanur to serious heavy, sucking waves. Having so many surf options available within such a short distance to the Kuta and Legian beach area means that after your surf you can return to a plush hotel and enjoy a long, lazy meal, lounge by the pool, take a nap in an air conditioned room and watch satellite TV. Alternatively you can party at the discos each night, enjoy some of the local brew, all of which has definite appeal after spending one or two weeks on a surf charter boat, or in a very basic surf camp on Java or Sumatra. The peak of the surf season for Bali is April - October when solid swells are produced by the roaring 40's and can be surfed on the reefs around Kuta, Uluwatu, and Nusa Dua. Unlike most other areas of Indonesia where it is all heavy reef breaks, Bali also has a lot of beach-breaks on offer which are less likely to cause a surfer of novice or intermediate ability to get injured as can happen on the larger waves on the reef-breaks. The surf in Bali is generally not huge, but most often in the 2-6 foot range (shoulder-high to double overhead). Larger waves can occur on some of the exposed reefs, but a mellower surf break can always be found in Bali by anyone who wishes to avoid life-threatening conditions. Bali has surf breaks both the west-facing and east-facing coastlines and, because of this an offshore wind can be found somewhere on the island on any given day. Because of the number of surf breaks and the quality and consistency of the waves in Bali, it is still possible to find a many places to surf with only a small to moderate crowd. The surf is always up on the Island of the God's! and regardless of what country you hail from you will feel the mystique of surfing Bali's beaches ...with so many exotic locations available on the island you can choose from white sands, black sands, amazing scenery, traditional fisherman and fishing villages which all add to the unique experience that comes with Surfing Bali.

Scientists create invisible Harry Potter cloak

Scientists have created a miniature version of Harry Potter's invisibility cloak but so far it only works in microwave light.
Physicists at the University of Texas say they're a step closer to the real deal, a cloak that could hide a person in broad daylight. Their research, which has so far produced an ultralow profile cloak designed for "scattering suppression of a finite length rod in free space", has been published in the New Journal of Physics. The cloak is made of a new kind of material called a metascreen, made up of strips of copper tape attached to a flexible polycarbonate film. The copper strips are only invisibility at all angles of 66 micrometres thick and the observation," said Andrea Alu, polycarbonate film is 100 one of the physicists. micrometres thick, and the two combined make a diagonal fishnet pattern. It works by scattering and cancelling out incoming waves, and the researchers were able to use the cloak to shield an 18 centimetre tall cylindrical rod from microwaves. "When the scattered fields from the cloak and the object interfere, they cancel each other out and the overall effect is transparency and

As she brings her arm down it can be seen as being the same size and shape as a modern cell phone. It was first posted online a year ago and was widely reported on by various blogs around the web. "She was 17 years old. I asked her about this video and she remembers it quite clearly. She says Dupont had a telephone communications section in the factory," the YouTube user commented. "They were experimenting with wireless telephones. Gertrude and five other women were given these wireless phones to test out for a week. Film shows mobile phone in 1938

Conspiracy theorists who hailed a 1938 film of a woman talking on a mobile phone as proof of time travel have been left disappointed.
Black and white footage of a young female chatting into a wireless handset has become a YouTube sensation with more than 300,000 hits. Reportedly filmed at a factory in the United States in the 1930s, the clip was initially hailed as proof that time travel was possible because it depicted cell phone technology 35 years before the technology was revealed to consumers. The woman is seen leaving the Dupont factory with a cell phone next to her ear. The technology wasn't demonstrated until 1973 and the first mobile wasn't commercially available until the 80s. But a comment left on the YouTube fed claims the woman was part of a testing team employed by the US industrial giant. The comment explains that the woman in the film is "my great-grandmother Gertrude Jones and they were testing wireless communication devices".

Vet School First-year students at Texas A&M Vet School were attending their first anatomy class, with a real dead cow. They all gathered around the surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started the class by telling them, "In Veterinary Medicine it is necessary to have two important qualities as a doctor: The first is that you not be disgusted by anything involving the animal body". For an example, the Professor pulled back the sheet, stuck his finger in the butt of the dead cow, withdrew it and stuck his finger in his mouth. "Go ahead and do the same thing," he told his students. The students freaked out, hesitated for several minutes, but eventually took turns sticking a finger in the butt of the dead cow and sucking on it. When everyone finished, the Professor looked at them and said, "The second most important quality is observation. I stuck in my middle finger and sucked on my index finger. Now learn to pay attention. Life's tough, but it's even tougher if you're stupid..."

Maori Talking Clock

Proudly showing off his newly-leased Bondi Junction apartment to a couple of friends late one night, a drunk Maori led the way to his bedroom where there was a big brass gong hanging on the wall. 'What's that big brass gong for?' one of the friends asked. 'Issss nod a gong. Issss a talking Australian clock,' he drunkenly replied. 'A talking Australian clock - seriously?' 'Yup.' 'How's it work?' the second friend asked, squinting at it. 'Just watch.' he said. He picked up a hammer, gave the gong an ear-shattering bash and stepped back. His three mates stood looking at one another for a moment in astounded silence. Suddenly, a Australian voice from the other side of the wall screamed, 'For f@#%'s sake, you stupid idiot. It's ten past three in the frigg'n morning !!!'

The user says that the woman really is using a mobile phone but that it's a "pre-war prototype developed by a communications factory in Leominster, Massachusetts". The brief clip of the woman, captioned "Time traveller in 1938 film" shows a young woman dressed in a stylish 30s dress walking alongside a crowd of people who are also dressed in

surf break, winning 16.26 points to 15.83. It capped one of the greatest days in the history of Brazilian surfing and came four years after compatriot Silvana Lima won the women's title at Bells. Young, from California, advanced to the final after ending Australian interest in the event by beating Taj Burrow in the semi-finals earlier on Tuesday. Defending Bells champion Mick Fanning from Australia was beaten by De Souza in the quarterfinals. De Souza then won a tough semi-final against South African Jordy Smith by the narrowest of margins winning 18.44 to 18.40. It was De Souza's fourth elite-level victory and his first in Australia. "It's an amazing feeling," De Souza said. "I got this feeling before when I won Brazil. "Everyone in Brazil has pushed me a lot to be the first Brazilian to win the world title ... and after I won there in 2011 it seems like everything changed. "This event for sure is a very special one." Eleven times world champion Kelly Slater, who was eliminated in round three at Bells Beach, retains the lead in the world championship rankings after taking out the first event on the Gold Coast. Slater sits on 11,750 rankings points, just ahead of Fanning and Burrow on 11,700 with De Souza in fourth position. The world championship tour now moves to Brazil for the Billabong Rio Pro from May 8.

Dear Martha, Last year, Wayan & I decided we'd be bonk Buddies, it worked well for us for about 10 months, no strings, no attachment, just lots of fun. Wayan (apparently) met a girl and they started dating which meant our arrangement was over. I was fine & happy for him. Fast forward 5 months and his gf has gone o/s for 3 months and before she was even on the plane he called me up for a booty call. I refused, telling him I do NOT sleep with guys who have gf's. He replied how do you know we haven't agreed to be single for 3 months? It just doesn't sit right with me. I've known him for many years & he's always been honest & faithful to gfs and now there's a complete change in him - he's ok to sleep with someone even though he's in a relationship with someone else. That's definitely not the guy I used to know. I'm not going to be his booty call but I am worried about this sudden change in his morals. I know he drinks alcohol daily and I'm wondering if this is starting to affect him. But on the other hand, he'll be turning 30 this year so maybe he's having some type of 1/3 life crisis. It's very confusing & I'm just not sure what to think or to say to him. Can you give me any insight

into why he'd be acting this way? I know sudden changes in behaviour can be a red flag for some diseases but I'm not sure if a change in morals counts? Caterina Dear Caterina, You think he has a disease because he wants to cheat on his girlfriend? You may think you knew this guy but in all likelihood you only knew him as well as he let you. Blokes don't usually confide how much they like cheating to their girl friends or even their bonk buddies dear. You have no idea what's going on in the relationship with his girl. Maybe he's half way out of it already, bored, unhappy or maybe he's just a dirty dog. You didn't know it when he was first trying to get in your pants, because he was trying to get in your pants. If I could answer a question with a question, why do you care so much about his moral behaviour anyway? Martha

"Shameful" sexist Ford car ads spark outrage in India

A series of car ads, including one showing women bound and gagged in the trunk of a Ford driven by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, has prompted Internet outrage in India and prompted an apology from Ford India.
The ads came just days after India approved a tougher new law to punish sex crimes, following the fatal gang rape of a student in December. That attack sparked unprecedented protests over the treatment of women in the country. The ads, uploaded on an industry website, were created by individuals within JWT India, a unit of the world's biggest advertising group WPP. They did not go through the normal review and oversight process, Ford India said. "We deeply regret this incident and agree with our agency partners that it should have never happened," the company said in a statement. "These posters are against the standards of professionalism and decency within Ford and our agency partners, and weren't part of any projects that Ford and WPP are working on, or for any commissioned commercial use." Ford India did not comment on whether it was taking any action against the agency. One of the ads shows Berlusconi, charged in Italy with paying for sex with a minor, sitting in the front seat of a Ford Figo hatchback flashing a victory sign, with a trio of half-dressed women tied up in the trunk. Another ad in the same series featured a caricature of celebrity Paris Hilton in the driver's seat, and three women resembling the Kardashian sisters bound in the trunk with the tagline "Leave your worries behind with Figo's extra large boot". "This was the result of individuals acting without proper oversight and appropriate actions have been taken within the agency where they work to deal with the situation," Comments on Twitter and Facebook dismissed the ads as "shameful" and "disgusting". "If this is what Ford represents, I will never buy Ford again, and try my best not to sit in one," a Facebook user said.

Magpies ready to meet Malthouse's Blues

Collingwood's Scott Pendlebury admits the Magpies will not be able to escape the hype surrounding next Sunday's clash with their former coach Mick Malthouse.
Malthouse will lead Carlton for the first time against the club he guided to the 2010 premiership and left a year later amid acrimonious circumstances. He was due to step into the newly created director of coaching role at the Magpies following the 2011 season but instead chose to walk away from the club and take up a position in the broadcast media. Matlhouse's exit did not impress Magpies president Eddie McGuire and he further earned the ire of the Black and White faithful by joining the Blues as head coach ahead of this season. Pendlebury, speaking after the Magpies' 16-point win over North Melbourne on Sunday, says it will be business as usual heading into the Blues encounter. But he concedes the interest in the club's first meeting with the Blues under Malthouse will dominate the headlines this week. "We always love playing Carlton and I'm sure all week we will hear about it and hopefully we get a massive crowd, because it will be a massive game," Pendlebury told Grandstand. The Magpies will take much confidence into the Blues encounter, considering they posted the win over the Kangaroos at Docklands with a depleted roster. They were already missing Dale Thomas and Luke Ball, when Dayne Beams (thigh) and Heath Shaw (illness) were late matchday withdrawals. It meant two more debutants - Josh Thomas and Jack Frost - joined another, Sam Dwyer, in the Magpies' squad of 22. Pendlebury says the Magpies could take great pride

from the performance in beating the Kangaroos. "It's one of the better wins I've played in over my short career so far," he said. "The effort of everybody out there, everyone gave that 10 out of 10 effort and that's all you can ask for. "It's great to start on that note and now we can build next week for Carlton." The Magpies were also forced to cope with the loss of Ben Johnson to a leg injury during the second term and key defender Ben Reid to a head clash in the third.

For the second successive week young Tyrone Roberts laid claims to being Newcastle's long-term halfback, scoring a superb try to help his side to a comefrom-behind win.
Skipper Gidley missed last week's impressive victory over North Queensland with a calf injury and although he returned to face the Raiders, it was at hooker, before being forced out of the game with concussion at half-time. Trailing 12-10 at the break after squandering a 10-0 lead, Roberts restored the Knights' advantage 11 minutes after the restart, with an outrageous right-foot step that fooled the Raiders defence, then ran through the subsequent gap to score. It was almost a carbon copy

Anthony Quinn's first fourpointer on his return to Newcastle from Melbourne woke up the Raiders, who scored two unanswered tries to take the lead. But back-rower Adam Cuthbertson iced the result for the hosts just after the hour-mark when he bulldozed his way to the line and scored his first try since the 2011 semi-final for St George Illawarra against Brisbane. The former Manly and Cronulla man then added his second just before the siren to seal a third win of the season for his side. In a further blow for the Raiders, Wighton left the game with an arm injury.

Titans take down Panthers

Gold Coast maintained its strong start to the season as Penrith's inability to find the finishing touch came back to haunt them in a 28-10 loss to the Titans at Panthers Stadium.
The Titans rolled to their third win from four starts in 2013 as they held off a fast-finishing Panthers, who paid the price for several botched try-scoring opportunities early in the game. "It was a different type of win to the ones we've had in the last couple of weeks [and you've] got to know how to win all sorts of ways," John Cartwright told Grandstand. "Defensively we were able to hang in there and find ways to stop them from scoring." On one such occasion Greg Bird stripped the ball from Luke Walsh as he was falling over the line, the New South Wales Origin back rower later scoring from a penalty tap 10 metres out to cap a powerful game. The Panthers now have just one win from four starts ahead of a daunting trip to Townsville to face North Queensland, while the Titans warmed-up for an epic home game against big brother Bird doubled the visitors' advantage when the Panthers defence fell asleep, the Panthers hitting back three minutes after the restart when David Simmons cleverly tapped back a Walsh kick for Wes Naiqama to stroll over. Another Bird try-save dislodged the ball from Naiqama, and the Titans' fears that the Panthers were coming seemed to get the better of them when veteran prop Luke Bailey appeared to grab the shirt of referee Jason Robinson as he argued for a penalty. A Steve Michaels fourpointer had the Titans firmly in control at 18-4 before Tom Humble set up an intriguing finish when he showed surprising pace to outrun both Mead and Kevin Gordon for a 70-metre intercept try. There was no catching Gordon however as he iced the game with two tries in the final five minutes as the Titans consolidated their spot in the NRL top four.

Inu accepts five-match ban

says the club considered of a seven-week ban was Canterbury's Krisnan Inu will serve a five-match t r y i n g t o h a v e t h e c h a r g e too much of a gamble given the suspension after entering downgraded at the judiciary but reaction to the tackle. "This early in the season we an early guilty plea for his decided against such action. "We did look at comparables, probably risked running into the spear tackle on Greg Inglis. Inu chose not to challenge the grade four dangerous throw charge that he was handed following his tackle on Inglis in the 68th minute of South Sydney's 17-12 win at the Olympic stadium. The New Zealand international lifted Inglis vertically and plunged his head into the turf, an ugly tackle from which the Rabbitohs full-back managed to walk away. Inu was facing a sevenweek ban had he contested the charge at the judiciary and proved unsuccessful. Bulldogs coach Des Hasler and we were looking at maybe a back of public emotion and grade three," he said. [seven] weeks was probably a bit risky," he said. "Krisnan didn't mean to do it. He's not that kind of player. He's held in fairly high regard. "It was a tackle that went wrong. It was fairly black and white. It was a bit careless and a bit reckless and that is the way it goes. "I think that maybe a month would have been right ... but I can "But we couldn't find anything understand why they gave it five that was a grade three so it was (weeks)." probably best that we took the five Tim Lafai will play at centre matches." in place of Inu against Manly on Hasler admits running the risk Friday at the Olympic stadium.
