April 2009 Turnaround (ESSAR Oil Ltd): Preparation of corrosion-inspection plan including scheduling of jobs to documentation of inspection findings for turnaround in co-ordination with Shell Global Consultants and execution of the same. Supervised contractors and external agencies ensuring timely completion of inspection jobs. Present Assignment:
Presently looking after CDU/VDU/DCU/MS/SRU/ARU unit. Maintaining the data history for static equipment and piping, collecting information for compilation of Asset Inspection plan, involved in pre commissioning and commissioning activities. Preparing inspection plan for static equipment and piping system as per RBI and related API to maintain the reliability of the assets with optimizing inspection frequency.
Field and conceptual training of fresh engineers/graduates, provide technical support to field inspectors, raise field technical queries for design department.

Develop work procedures and job instructions like insulation procedure and different NDT procedure in regards with the company HSE Policy. Preparation of corrosion loop for CDU/VDU and DCU Plant. Incoming Materials Inspection at ware house. Performance Qualification Test and Records for welders and procedure qualification.

Also familiar with various advanced NDT techniques such as IRIS, RFET, LFET, Eddy current testing. Hands on experience in specifying inspection requirement for procurement of materials. Review of Inspection Test Plans, Welding Specifications. Good expertise in the inspection of equipment during construction and in-coming material inspection at stores.

Familiarity with inspection instruments such as Ultrasonic thickness gauges, Pyrometers (infrared), Alloy Analyzer, Magnetic Particle Inspection, Ultrasonic Hardness Tester, Infrared thermography camera and FSM.

Job Responsibilities:
Various job activities routinely carried out are briefly described below: Plant Inspection Job Description Monitoring of parameters for corrosion viz. pH, chloride content, Fe content of sour water streams. Checking the condition of cold walled equipment such as, Regenerator, Reactor Riser, Flue gas duct, Stacks and heaters using latest Infrared thermography equipment. Monitoring of heater tube skin temperatures, visual condition of tubes, flame impingement, bowing, sagging etc. Visual inspection of high temperature piping including supports. Providing technical support for maintenance. Plan and carry out fixed equipment/piping inspection via on-stream risk-based monitoring programs and downtime inspection activities Investigate equipment failure and recommend cost-effective methods of repair and material selection Execute quality assurance in engineering designs for projects and inspections on project/construction and maintenance works, in accordance with industry standards Maintain effective working relationships and communication with business teams/units, to eliminate or minimize material and corrosion issues Maintain effective Inspection Data Management system and filing system, including periodic updates. Develop and update piping and fixed equipment strategy as leading indicators for reliability

Piping Inspection

Scheduling of piping inspection as per the norms and standards. Visual inspection for external corrosion, review of Ultrasonic thickness measurements for internal corrosion. Identify piping for prevention of corrosion under insulation. Plan and carry out inspection by non-destructive means on existing stationary equipment and associated piping/structures, including any modifications or additions that may be done from time to time. To conduct corrosion / metallurgical failure analysis of various static equipment and piping components by interaction with metallurgical labs, corrosion experts and other agencies. To recommend corrosion control/preventive measures by selection and application of materials, paints/coating, neutralizers/inhibitors, etc Prepare Failure analysis reports with corrective recommendations. To implement latest techniques for identification of corrosion trends in the refinery equipment and piping. To participate in routine corrosion monitoring activities- by coupons/ probes and chemical inhibitor injection field trials etc. Preparing corrosion loop for CDU/VDU and for DCU as per plant design and by considering the API 571 damage mechanism. To review drawings and specifications with a view to check design and material requirements related to weld ability. Recommend welding electrodes and filler wires for new fabrication as well as repair with suitable preheat/post heat and post weld heat treatment requirements. Review and approve WPS for equipment and piping jobs for new fabrication as well as for repair as per ASME sec IX and other relevant guidelines. Witness welder tests and certify welders based on ASME sec IX. Carry out radiographic interpretation of welds as per required codes like ASME 31.3, ASME sec VIII div 1 & 2, IBR Looking after the Inspection Database in MS Access, built in-house on all the static equipment in the refinery. List out inspection requirements to be incorporated in tender for various projects. Approve quality plan and inspection test plan for bought out static equipment like piping, pressure vessels etc. Review of material selection diagrams of Licensor Perform positive material identification of bought out items to avoid metallurgy mix up. Witness piping fit-ups, welder tests Review radiography films Witness hydro tests of piping circuits, heat exchangers and fired heater coils. Pre-Commissioning/Commissioning Inspection of Columns, Pressure Vessels, Process Piping, Fired Heaters, Spheres & Tanks leading to final box-up and Inspection of Pressure Relief Safety Valves and their routine maintenance Involved in commissioning & pre-commissioning activities like loop tracing, discrepancy identification from the standards and giving correct solution for correcting them, material verification etc. Inspection at Vendors shop. Complete planning of shutdown inspection including preparation of detailed inspection job list. Identification of critical equipment and piping like vessels in wet H 2S service, Amine unit equipments prone to cracking and high temperature lines etc. Inspect heat exchanger tube bundles and shells before and after cleaning. Issue recommendations for weld build up, painting on channel side for coolers. Witness hydrotest of shell and tube bundle. Arrange for NDTs like Ultrasonic scanning for reformer tubes in Hydrogen plant, WFMPI for vessels in Wet H2S service, IRIS for air fin cooler tubes, RFET and IRIS for exchanger tubes. Witness hydro test of pressure vessels, fired heater coils, heat exchangers. Witness testing of safety valves for set pressure, leak test and back pressure test.
