Technology Requests Most schools consider technology requests by a committee now.

Serving on this committee as a teacher is one way that you may be able to increase your access to technology because you will know how the process works. Since money is tight in many schools, technology requests are very competitive. Its important to follow the rules for request and provide as much information as possible. Each proposal must have the following information: Description of the technology requested (and a URL if available). (Remember, many committee members do not have knowledge of what you are requesting so please describe it fully in everyday terms.) Include estimates of the cost. (Do not forget shipping and consumables ie.. ink cartridges for printers, bulbs for projectors etc..) Description of alternative options explored for your specific technology requested. Describe what was investigated before you determined that this technology was the most applicable for your needs. A statement of instructional use for the technology requested. (Remember school technology requests not for administrative, productivity, or clerical purposes.) Description of your rationale for needing the technology requested. (Specifically, why do you need it? What will it allow you to do that you cannot do now? Description of how will students SPECIFICALLY benefit from the technology requested. o If the technology would be used to accommodate students with special needs, how would it help them, and how would it be used during class. Description of the level of use of the technology requested. (Given in terms of a calendar year.) o How much instructional time? o Which subject areas will use the technology? o Describe how the technology requested will allow you to better use resources you already have. If any of this information is missing, the Technology Committee may be unable to review your request. Your request should be no more than 2 pages typed. Do not be afraid to use a business style of writing.. (ie.. bulleted lists, clear headings, and brief succinct sentences). Need ideas?
