Joe Alfano 300 in Montvale Majors

By Robert Balzarek
WALLINGTON, NJ - Kevin
Jackson got another pin on the Wall of
Fame rolling a 300 game in the
Tuesday Bud Light 4-Man at
Wallington Lanes.
Garry Vincente was right behind
with 288, Steve Shin 268, Jim
Giancarlo 268, Kevin Matawa 267,
Tom Twist 266 256 733, Ulises
Medrano 259, Jae Kim 258, Paul
Stamos who shot 3 258 games.
By Bill Vint - PBA
INDIANAPOLIS Professional
Bowlers Association Hall of
Famer Pete Weber of St. Ann,
Mo., wrote another chapter in
bowling history when he defeat-
ed Australian two-handed star
Jason Belmonte, 224-179, to win
the Barbasol PBA Tournament
of Champions at Woodland
Bowl and a $50,000 payday.
The victory made Weber the
first player to complete the PBA
Triple Crown for a second time
and tied bowling legend Earl
Anthony for most major PBA
titles with 10.
Weber, who was considered
one of the professional tours
power players when he won
his first PBA Tournament of
Champions with his unique
high back swing back in
1978, is now 50 the oldest player ever to win the
Tournament of Champions and affectionately called
Gramps by his younger opponents.
He won his second TOC title to go along with five U.S.
Open titles and two PBA World Championships to com-
plete the PBAs Triple Crown a second time, a feat no
other bowler has accomplished. He also owns a PBA
Touring Players Championship for his other major. His
win Sunday was his 37th,
tying him for third place on the
PBA all-time titles list with
Norm Duke, behind Walter
Ray Williams Jr. (47) and
Anthony (43).
I dont know what it is,
Weber said. I get up for the
majors, but theres one eluding
me and the Weber family the
USBC Masters. I really want
that one, and Im not done yet.
Im not slowing down. I have
no plans to retire.
Weber won the ToC with
three doubles, four spares and
help from Belmonte, who left
the 4-10 split three times
failing to convert it twice.
I woke up today and said
my dream would be to bowl
Pete and win by a pin,
Belmonte said. I got half
of it right. I bowled Pete, but I lost by 60.
Pete is the most talented bowler the world has ever
seen, and may ever see, Belmonte added. To bowl
him in the finals and see him break records like he
has broken is really special. If I could achieve half of
what he has done by the time my career is over, Ill
be ecstatic.

Pete Weber Wins Barbasol PBA Tournament of Champions
Completes PBA Triple Crown for second time, ties Earl Anthony for most PBA major titles
INDIANAPOLIS - Doug Kent of Newark,
N.Y., the winner of 10 Professional Bowlers
Association Tour titles including four major
championships, and Danny Wiseman of
Baltimore, a 12-time Tour winner with one
major title, were inducted into the PBA Hall of
Fame for superior performance during cere-
monies at the Indianapolis Marriott North
Saturday night.
Wiseman, 45, joined the PBA in 1987 and has
earned just over $1.55 million. Kent, also 45,
joined the PBA in 1988 and has earned just over
$1.51 million during his career. In the voting for
the 50 Greatest Players in PBA History during
the organizations 50th anniversary celebration
in 2009, Wiseman was
ranked 42nd and Kent
43rd.
Among Kents major
titles are the 1991 United
States Bowling Congress
Masters, his first title, the
2002 PBA World
Championship, and the
2006 USBC Masters and
Dennys PBA World
Championship. Winning
two majors in 2006 led to
the Chris Schenkel PBA
Player of the Year award.
He is one of only nine
players ever to win two
major titles in the same
season.
As a young player I
never thought about Halls
of Fame or Player of the
Year awards, Kent said.
All I wanted to be was
like my hero Mark Roth.
I want to thank PBA
for the opportunity to be a
professional bowler and
to live a dream.
Kent joins his brother-
in-law, Parker Bohn III, in the PBA Hall of
Fame. Kents wife is the former Chrissie
Beamish; Bohns wife is the former Leslie
Beamish. They are the second set of brothers-in-
law in the PBA Hall, joining Mike Aulby and
Steve Cook, who also married sisters.
Wiseman, who won the first of his 11 standard
titles in the 1990 Fair Lanes Open in his home-
town in his first television appearance, won the
historic 2004 USBC Miller High Life Masters
which was staged on a special lane installation
inside Miller Park in Milwaukee the first time
a bowling championship had been conducted
inside a major league baseball stadium.

Belmonte eliminated defending
champion Sean Rash of
Montgomery, Ill., 229-171, in the
semifinal match. Belmonte started
with five strikes while Rash threw
only one strike in his first six frames.
When Belmonte left the 1-2-4-6-10 in
the eighth frame and failed to convert,
he gave Rash a glimmer of hope, but
Rash was unable to close the gap.
In the second match, Rash followed
a first-frame spare with five strikes to
build a 34-pin lead over Tommy
Jones of Simpsonville, S.C., after
Jones left and failed to convert the 3-
4-6-7-10 split in his second frame.
Despite striking on eight of his last
nine shot, Jones was unable to over-
come his early mistake against Rashs
error-free game.
Jones started the stepladder finals
with a 217-189 victory over Finlands
two-handed star, Osku Palermaa.
Jones had a double in the second and
third frames which gave him the lead
and Palermaa, unable to double the
entire game, couldnt catch up.

Wiseman also had memorable per-
formances in the 1992 Tournament of
Champions and 2009 USBC Masters,
finishing second in both tournaments.
Early in his career, Wiseman
defined himself by compiling the
winningest television record in PBA
history at that time (21-5), and by
introducing a colorful persona that
branded him as something of a mav-
erick.
I never had a lot of natural ability
and often wondered how I got to this
point, Wiseman said. I have to give
my parents a lot of the credit. I
learned to strive for perfection from
dad and to never give up from my
mom.
I took what I learned from a lot of
the greats in the sport, combined it
with my own ability and made a
career out of it.

OAKLAND, NJ - In Stan Niemiec Youth Travelers play at Holiday
Bowl, Montville sophomore Karl Kattermann scattered the plastic-coats
with a session best triple deuce 205-223-269: 697 in spearheading
Boonton to a 5-2 triumph over Montvale. Kattermann, who also stroked
697 last month at Fair Lawn, lifted his team high average to just shy of
204; the rest of the lineup provided ample support, particularly Brian
McGrath whose 208: 575 was his finest showing to date; Pat Teshima
came through with 204: 586 and anchor Justin Puchalski added a 206.
Montvales Katie Didonato posted a season best game/set with 226: 604
while Kyle Ladewig chipped in with 204-205 and Matt Russell 183.
Holiday Is Nick Cilento fired 248-243: 666, Frank Magyar 224 and Ana
DeLeon 195, but were outscored, 2672-2647 by Bowler City IV, largely
due to a +50 over set outing from Caitlin Tombo which included a 179 sin-
gle. Also rolling well for BC IV were Alijah Jackson 197 and Nick
Ferrante 196.
James Kane tallied 208-223: 630, Justin Garcia 206-244: 621 and Kyle
Schellberg 202 as Bowler City II bounced back from an opening loss to
snare five points from a shorthanded Holiday II squad. Sparking Holiday
II was Colette Malyack 258: 622 with help from Frank Olandesi 214-221
and Caitlyn Castillo 193.
Despite Vinny Santoros 204-225: 599, Bowler City Is drive to the title
was temporarily stalled by Bowler City III which edged the frontrunners,
2566-2558. Top scorers for BC III were Nick Reyes 199: 581, Louis
Ferrante 193 and Patrick Sucero 188.
Fair Lawn jumped into second place, ten points back of the leaders, with
a sweep of the seven points from the vacancy.
