The third group of feedstock is composed of oil-containing or oil-producing plants. There are a large number of plants that produce oils, in particular fixed oils, which can be processed to produce biofuels that can be used as diesel substitute or blend. The common characteristic of these oils is that they may be decomposed into glycerin and one or more acids of the type called fatty acids. The physical properties commonly found in these plant oils are the following: (a) they float on water but are not soluble in it; (b) they are greasy to the touch and have lubricating properties; (c) they are not readily volatile; and (d) they may be burned without leaving any significant residue. Most of these oils such as soybean oil, coconut oil and palm oil have been used mainly for human or animal food or the production of various types of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals but increasing amounts are now being processed for the production of biodiesel.
cracking catalytic reaction of vegetable oil sludge by Micro-activity test MAT 5000 of Zeton-Canada. A ZSM-5/MCM-41 multiporous composite (MC-ZSM-5/MCM-41), was successfully synthesized using silica source extracted from rice husk. The material has the MCM-41 mesoporous structure, and its wall is constructed by ZSM-5 nanozeolite crystals. The porous system of the material includes pores of the following sizes: 5 (ZSM-5 zeolite), 40 (MCM-41 mesoporous material), and another porous system whose diameter is in the range of 100-500 (mesoporous system) formed by the burning of organic compounds that remain in the material during the calcination process. This pore system contributes to an increase in the catalytic performance of synthesized material. The results of vegetable oil sludge cracking reaction show that the product consists of fractions such as dry gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), gasoline, light cycle oil (LCO), and (heavy cycle oil) HCO, which are similar to those of petroleum cracking process. MC-ZSM-5/MCM-41 catalyst is efficient in the catalytic cracking reaction of vegetable oil sludge as it has higher conversion and selectivity for LPG and gasoline products in comparison to the pyrolysis process. Product distribution (% of oil feed) of cracking reaction over MCZSM-5/MCM-41 is coke (3.4), total dry gas (7.0), LPG (31.1), gasoline (42.4), LCO (8.9), HCO (7.2); and that of pyrolysis are coke (19.0), total dry gas (9.3), LPG (16.9), gasoline (28.8), LCO (13.7), and HCO (12.3). These results have indicated a new way to use agricultural waste such as rice husk for the production of promising catalysts and the processing of vegetable oil sludge to obtain biofuel.
GASOLINE PRODUCTION FROM PALM OIL VIA CATALYTIC CRACKING USING MCM-41: DETERMINATION OF OPTIMUM CONDITION
The catalytic cracking of palm oil involves parallel cracking reactions which produce organic liquid product (OLP), non-condensable gas and coke. OLP consists of gasoline, kerosene and diesel; all can be used as alternative fuels. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of operating conditions: oil to catalyst (O/C) ratios and Weight Hourly Space Velocities (WHSVs)) to the feed conversion, OLP yield and gasoline yield. The optimum conditions of OLP production was also obtained in this study. The experiment was conducted in a fixed bed microreactor at a temperature of 450C. The WHSVs were varied at a range of 15 to 25.While the O/C ratios were varied at the range of 30 to 50. The results show that the highest yield of OLP was 60.73 wt% at O/C ratio of 32.50 and WHSV of 19.38.

Gasoline and gaseous hydrocarbons from fatty acids via catalytic cracking
The conversion of palmitic and oleic acid as well as tall oil fatty acid was investigated in a fully continuous small scale fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) pilot plant. A conventional FCC zeolite catalyst was used. Experiments were performed in the range of 485 550C. The highest gasoline yield of 44 wt.% was obtained from oleic acid at 550C. Palmitic acid yielded the most cracking gas at 550C with 43.9 wt.%. The obtained gasoline was practically oxygen-free at high octane numbers. Oxygen contained in the feed was mainly converted to water and small amounts of CO 2. Gasoline aromaticity
clearly increased with temperature. The formation of high boiling products was enhanced by the number of C=C double bonds in the fatty acids. Large amounts of propene and ethene were formed which are valuable reactants for the polymer industry. The lower price of fatty acids in comparison with fresh vegetable oils makes them an interesting feedstock for the FCC process.
