Many of our glass courses offer nationally recognized qualifications, providing a strong foundation for progression from First Steps into Higher Education and employment, while others are designed to introduce students to particular areas of study or for personal creative development. We also aim to equip students with the confidence and independence needed to improve their career prospects and achieve personal and professional goals.

I just wanted to thank you for all the help and support I received during the Glass and Ceramic course I did at the Kensington and Chelsea College. I successfully completed the BTEC National Diploma in Glass Course and passed with a Distinction grade, which has given me a good base to go on to do a BA (Hons) in Glass. I graduated in 2011 with a First Class in 3D Design in Glass. I did find working through the course interesting, stimulating and enjoyable. I've met interesting people and the tutors were amazing. Doing the course at KCC gave me the courage to carry on with my glass art and now as an Urban Glass Artist I am able to make a living out of it and I am exhibiting both nationally as well as internationally. My experience as a student at the Kensington & Chelsea College has been excellent and I would recommend it to others. - Gonny van Hulst aka GonnyGlass

Yearly, our students have the opportunity to participate in national competitions such us the inspired by and the architectural glass Stevens' competition. Indeed many of the projects in our accredited courses are linked in with these competitions. Students are encouraged to participate as this is a very useful stepping stone for their career goals in the glass contemporary practice, progression to university or self-employment destination. Last year one of KCC students won first prize for the glass category with her glass work. Malvinka Bitelli said: "'I'm absolutely thrilled at being given the chance to exhibit my work at the V&A.'" Four glass students were shortlisted for the V&A's Be Inspired Competition and displayed their work at the V&A museum with Malvinka. The vocational glass courses we offer include: lectures by professional glass makers in which they explain their personal career path and discuss their approach to professional practice. We also offer seminars and visits to contemporary exhibitions so that students can develop a deeper understanding of the art and design industry and the organisations that operate within it. We aim for students to learn about the varied roles that exist within this field. We have an excellent glass studio with facilities to help students become highly competent in design. Students are encouraged to develop their professional, specialist, practical and technical skills and build confidence in their creative ability. We offer techniques in the glass architectural field as well kiln formed glass.

How to Draw
Drawing is an essential skill that underpins all of our artistic and creative endeavours. Drawing allows us to be expressive and descriptive, to explore and to communicate. We offer a range of drawing classes that will allow you to investigate drawing practice with guidance and support. Our drawing courses are grounded in established practice but embrace innovation and experimentation. Life drawing and painting classes give learners the opportunity to study and work from the human figure and explore different mediums, materials and techniques. Drawing from the figure can inspire many different forms of artistic inquiry; from an exploration of identity to an understanding of human physicality. Observation, composition, measuring and expression are key elements and poses are also given an historical reference and context. Measured Drawing classes will teach students measuring systems and will concentrate on the process of drawing rather than the subject. Different systems of drawing clearly and simply laid out will be explored over the weeks. Art materials are not included in the course fee but basic materials can be purchased from the college at reasonable prices. Any extra costs will be indicated in the course outline or at interview and advice sessions. (Please note that during life classes a nude model is used.)

Printmaking - Open Workshop

[ Enrol ] This short course is a practical, studio based programme that will give you a good introduction to etching. You will work in our light and well-equipped specialist studio and learn with supportive tutoring. Etching is an intaglio technique. A drawing is made through a layer of wax, referred to as a hard ground or soft ground. The plate is put into acid and the wax acts as a resist as the zinc plate is "bitten" in the exposed metal. The plate is covered with ink and then wiped clean. The ink left in the recesses makes the print when paper is pressed into them on the etching press. The course is a combination of structured teaching and informal workshop time. Please refer to the Fact Sheet for further information. Summer School - Fine Art and Photography

Our lecturers are all practising professionals artists and will help and guide you, whatever your level of artistic ability. One-to-one and small group tutorials are included to support you in your studies and you can get specialist advice about progression to higher level courses, if you wish.

Understanding Art
Alongside Art practice there is an abundance of information and theory. There are probably as many interpretations and explanations of Art, its practice and its manifest objects as there are artists. Under this heading we hope to offer a range of courses that will provide insight and understanding for those who wish to explore the contexts in which Art evolves, is made and exhibited. Guided visits to contemporary exhibitions will aim to provide an expanded view of what the curator of today considers viable as marketable artefact or ground breaking conceptualisation. Lectures and seminars, often associated with exhibitions, will give an opportunity for direct interaction with artists talking about their artwork, its development and presentation. Outside practice courses and workshops will explore Art History and Theory through associated practical activity beyond the studio in museums or the high street. The information and theory explored under the heading of Understanding Art will support study in our other subject discipline areas of Sculpture, Photography and Printmaking. Learning how to paint and draw, studies in watercolour or even digital photography will all benefit from having some contextual background to support your practical experimentation.

Apprenticeships and Train to Gain

We are dedicated to finding the perfect training solutions to help your business and staff reach their potential. We offer Train to Gain, Apprenticeship and bespoke training programmes. Training is usually undertaken at your workplace or in specialised training facilities. Training may be subsidised. In the future, two out of three jobs will require a higher level of skills and qualifications. In fact, in less than ten years there will be very few unskilled jobs. Don't get left behind: take control of the future with better skills. Let us help you with our range of training options designed to improve your prospects at work.

Apprenticeships - Earn while you learn!

If you are at work then you and your employer may be eligible to benefit from one of our Apprenticeship programmes. Apprenticeships are designed to give you all the skills you need to advance in your career, including vocational qualifications and help with the sort of maths and English you need to do your job. Apprenticeships are available at two different levels, and we will help you and your employer to find the one that's right for you. We offer apprenticeships in the following areas:

Business Administration Children's Care Learning and Development Construction Creative and Cultural Health and Social Care Hairdressing Information Technology Playwork Sport

Direct Enrolment Courses

No interview is required to enrol on these 'Direct Enrolment' courses. You are required to enrol and pay at the same time.

Option 1: Enrol and pay online

Find a course, click on 'Enrol now' and follow the instructions. If you are claiming a concessionary fee you will need to provide evidence of your entitlement when you come in for your first class. Failure to do this will result in you being charged the full fee.

Option 2: Enrol and pay by post

Simply complete an enrolment form clearly in CAPITALS, following the instructions at the top of the form. You will then need to enclose the following with your enrolment form:

Cheque or postal order payable to Kensington and Chelsea College. Please enclose a separate cheque or postal order for each course. Ensure cheques have a valid cheque guarantee card number and expiry date written on the back of the cheque. Do not forget to enclose a copy of proof of concessionary benefit (if applicable) with this form.

Then post by the deadline of 10 working days prior to the course start date to either: Postal Enrolments, Chelsea Centre, Hortensia Road, London SW10 0QS. Or Postal Enrolments, Wornington Centre, Wornington Road, London W10 5QQ. Failure to follow the above instructions will result in a delay in processing your form and you could lose your place on the course.

Option 3: Enrol and pay in person

You may enrol in person at any of our main site reception centres during opening times. Please make sure you have all the relevant documentary evidence (if applicable) with you when you enrol as failure to prove concessionary benefit at the time of enrolment (payment) will result in a delay in processing your form and may result in a loss of place on your course.

Please note: In order for you to claim a concession you must produce documentary evidence, which is no more than three months old, each time you enrol (see How Much Will I Pay?). You will be asked whether you qualify for reduced fees. Please remember that if you claim a reduction you must provide proof that you are entitled to it.

Courses with a qualification symbol only

It is necessary to apply for these courses. You will only have your place confirmed and be required to pay for these courses following a successful interview. Please make sure you have all the relevant documentary evidence (if applicable) with you when you attend your interview so that you may enrol and guarantee yourself a place on the course.

Option 1: Apply online

Find the course you want to take with the search box. Click on 'Apply Now' and this will take you to the application form. We will then contact you to arrange an interview. Please Note: This option is not available for Modern Foreign Languages, Basic Skills, ICT or English for Speakers of Other Languages courses where there are specific Advice and Guidance times in the course listing, course guide, on the website or from our course enquiries line on 020 7573 5333. Please do not send in applications for these courses: just turn up at the specific times.

Option 2: Apply by post

Simply complete the enrolment form contained in the back of this course listing and post to either: Applications, Chelsea Centre, Hortensia Road, London SW10 0QS Or Applications, Wornington Centre, Wornington Road, London W10 5QQ. Your form will be directed to the respective department where an interview will be arranged for you and our staff will help you enrol on the course that best suits your needs. Please do not include any payment with initial application for these courses.

My company is paying for me.

Follow the procedures for enrolment depending on qualification or direct enrolment course. You will need to include a letter from your company on headed stationery (no photocopies please, we need the original) stating:

Your name

The course The course code, time and date The amount they wish to be invoiced for in relation to the course fee.

If you do not provide this your enrolment will be delayed and you could lose your place on the course. If during your course you leave your job then it is your responsibility to reimburse the company if required.

Can I get a refund or a transfer?

Home/EU students are entitled to a full refund if you withdraw from a course two weeks or more before the course starts. The college will also refund your money in full if your course is closed or the time or venue is changed and you have to withdraw as a result of this. You may be entitled to transfer to another course or in exceptional circumstances be eligible to a voucher or partial refund by voucher (excluding an administration charge) valid for one calendar year. However, please note that the college does not normally refund fees after the course has started unless due to unforeseen circumstances brought on by the college changing the course venue, time or closure. Application forms can be obtained from the website www.kcc.ac.uk, our main centres or by contacting our course enquiries team. Transferring to another course will be limited to once per enrolment and will not be acceptable after the fourth week of the course. If at the time of enrolment you do not have the relevant documentation to receive a concessionary fee and pay a standard fee to ensure a place on a course then a full refund of the difference will be made. If, however, you are awaiting confirmation of benefit at the start of the course and it is not backdated to before the course start date then a refund will be made only for the outstanding terms of the course. This also applies to changes in working status during the course. So if the course is only one term then no refund will be made. Please ensure you retain your payment receipt as no refund or transfer can be made without this. For details of refunds and forms, please contact a member of our Admissions team on 020 7573 3600.
