In this chapter we have studied that organisaion is a place where people with formally assigned roles work together

to achieve the organizations goals. And manager is a person responsible for accomplishing the organizations goals, and who does so by managing the efforts of the organizations people. And managing involves following functions Planning: Establishing Goals and standards; developing rules and procedures; developing plans and forecasting Organizing: Giving each subordinate a specific task; Staffing: Determining what type of people should be hired; Leading: Getting others to get the job done Controlling: Setting standards and in this book we focus on one of these functions which is the staffing personel management or human resource management the process of acquiring, training, appraising, and compensating employees, and of attending to their labor relations, health and safety, and fairness concerns. It is important to study HRM because it helps us to avoid problems like hiring the wrong person. Experiencing high turn over. People not doing their best. Waste time with useless interveiws. Court cases due to discriminatory actions and safety laws for unsafe practices and accidients or any unfair labor practice and lack of training etc. This chapter provides information about Line and Staff Aspects of HRM Authority: the right to make decisions, direct others work and to give orders Line Manager have line authourity directing other's work in his or her department and in service Staff Manager have staff auhority which gives the manager the right to advise other managers or employees Line Managers HRM Responsibilities are Job Analysis . New Emplotees Orientation. On the job training employees for jobs that are new to them. Performance Appraisal of each person Interpreting the firms policies and procedures. Controlling labor costs. Developing the abilities of each person. Creating and maintaining department morale. Protecting employees health and physical condition. Human Resource Managers Duties. Line function, Coordination function, staff function d knowing about these duties help managers to perform heir duties well. we also study Trends shaping human resource management which are Globalization, Indebtedness and Deregulaton, Technological Nature of work (High-Tech Jobs, Service Jobs, Knowledge Work and Human capital) Workforce and Demographic trends, Economic Challenges and trends.
