Recognition by API 570 for API RP 571 & 577

Section 2 References Add both API RP 571 and 577 to the list of references. Section 5.3 INSPECTION FOR SPECIFIC TYPES OF CORROSION AND CRACKING Note: For more thorough and complete information, see API IRE, Chapter II. API RP 571 Damage Mechanism Affecting Fixed Equipment in the Refining Industry covers all general and refining specific causes of deterioration and damage in hydrocarbon processing environments and should be used for guidance in conjunction with this code. Each section in API 571 covers: 1. Description of Damage 2. Affected Materials 3. Critical Factors 4. Affected Units or Equipment 5. Appearance or Morphology of Damage 6. Prevention/Mitigation 7. Inspection and Monitoring 8. Related Mechanisms Section 5.3.1 Injection Points During periodic scheduled inspections, more extensive inspection should be applied to an area beginning 12 inches upstream of the injection nozzle and continuing for a least ten pipe diameters downstream of the injection point. Additionally more extensive inspection should be focused on the area right below the injection point where acidic condensate may be draining down the sides of the pipe wall causing highly localized, accelerated corrosion. Additionally, measure and record the thickness at all TMLs within the injection point circuit. Section 5.3.3 Corrosion Under Insulation Add the following sentence to the end of the first paragraph: Reference API 571, Section 4.3.3 for further guidance on CUI. Section 4.3.9 Soil-to-air Interfaces Add this sentence as a last paragraph: Reference API RP 571, Section 4.3.9 on Soil Corrosion for further guidance. Section 5.3.7 Environmental Cracking Add this sentence as a last paragraph: Reference API RP 571, Sections 4.5 and 5.2 on Environment Assisted Cracking for further guidance. Section 5.3.7 Fatigue Cracking Add this sentence as a last paragraph: Reference API RP 571, Sections 4.2.9, 4.5.2 and 4.2.16 on Fatigue Cracking (Thermal, Mechanical, and Corrosion Fatigue) for further guidance.

Section 5.3.10 Creep Cracking Add this sentence as a last paragraph: Reference API RP 571, Section 4.2.8 on Creep / Stress Rupture for further guidance. Section 5.3.11 Brittle Fracture Add this sentence as a last paragraph: Reference API RP 571, Section 4.3.7 on Brittle Fracture for further guidance.

Section 8.2 Welding and Hot Tapping All repair and alteration welding shall be done in accordance with the principles of the ASME B31.3 or the code to which the piping system was built. Refer to API RP 577 Welding Inspection and Metallurgy for recommended practices with regard to welding inspection. Any welding conducted on piping components in operation must be done in accordance with API Publ. 2201. Reference API RP 577, section 11.2 for further guidance on hot tapping and welding in-service. 8.2.1 Procedures, Qualifications, and Records The repair organization shall use welders and welding procedures qualified in accordance with ASME B31.3 or the code to which the piping was built. Reference API RP 577 Section 6 for guidance on welding procedures and qualifications. 8.2.2 Preheating and Post Weld Heat Treatment Reference should be made to API RP 577 Welding Inspection and Metallurgy, sections 10.5 and 10.6 on preheating and post weld heat treatment for guidance.
