Questions Bible Skeptics ask: Where did Cain get his wife?

Skeptics of the Bible have used Cains wife time and again to try to discredit the book of Genesis as a true historical record. One of the reasons many Christians cannot answer the question about Cains wife is because they tend to look at todays world and the problems that would be associated with close relations marrying, and not the clear historical record God has given to us. They try to interpret Genesis from our present situation, rather than understand the true Biblical history of the world and the changes that have occurred because of sin. Because they are not building their world-view on Scripture but taking a secular way of thinking to the Bible, they are blinded to the simple answers. Genesis is the record of the God who was there as history happened. It is the Word of One who knows everything, and who is a reliable Witness from the past. Cain was the first child of Adam and Eve recorded in Scripture (Genesis 4:1). He and his brothers, Abel [Genesis 4:2] and Seth [Genesis 4:25], were part of the first generation of children ever born on this Earth. Even though these three males are specifically mentioned, Adam and Eve had other children during their lives, Adam and Eve had a number of male and female children and even when scripture doesnt tell us how many children were born to Adam and Eve, given their long life spans [Genesis 5:5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.], it would seem logical to suggest there were many children born of him.

Many people immediately reject the conclusion that Adam and Eves sons and daughters married each other by appealing to the law against brother-sister intermarriage which came in a long way after the first generation of Adam and Eve, this law forbidding close relatives marrying was not given until the time of Moses as we read from Leviticus 18-20. Some quickly conclude there must have been another race of people on the earth from the passage in Genesis 4:16-17 16 And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelled in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bore Enoch: and he built a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch, thus claiming that Cain went to the land of Nod and found a wife. This is not true because in Genesis 3:20 we read, And Adam called his wifes name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. And in also, in Genesis 2:20 we read And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him if there was no mate fit for him then how could we talk of another race of people in Nod? There was no one of his kind and so we conclude all people other than Adam are descendants of Eve not excluding Cains wife. The bible does not say that Cain found a wife in the Land of Nod but says that Cain Knew his wife; I believe Cain must have had a wife before he went to the land of Nod, we should also keep in mind that the primary reason for going to Nod was not to marry but it was out of his fear for loss of his life; the context in Genesis 4:14 Behold, you have driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from your face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that finds me shall slay me, seems to imply that his own relatives, who would be blood avenger for Abel, would kill him for their relation with Abel and this would imply that Adam and Eve had many unnamed children from whom Cain got a wife.

Thus, when we use Genesis as a basis for understanding history, we can make sense of evidence which would otherwise be a real mystery. You see, if evolution is true, science has an even bigger problem than Cains wife to explain, how could man ever evolve by mutations (mistakes) in the first place, since that process would have made everyones children deformed? The mere fact that people can produce offspring is a testim ony to Creation, not evolution.
