UCM Collegiate DECA

International Collegiate Development Conference Anaheim, CA April 16 21, 2013

WARRENSBURG, MO (April 22, 2013) UCM DECA, the Collegiate DECA chapter at the University of Central Missouri, attended the 2013 International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Anaheim, California. With 32 students and an advisor, Assistant Professor of Management Matt Houseworth, UCMs students competed in 14 different events, the annual Entrepreneurship Challenge, and facilitated a workshop at the annual Advisor Academy. At this years conference, 17 competitors were recognized as Finalists with 14 advancing to the Top Ten in their respective event. In addition, UCM DECA placed in three events: Curtis Hartley: 1st Overall in Accounting Matthew Barton & Jeff Mason: 2nd Overall in Sports & Entertainment Marketing Jess Gomez & Breanna Mahan: 3rd Overall in Advertising Campaign

In events listed as Business Simulations, those with the top exam scores and top role play scores are recognized separately from overall status. Steven Kelm was recognized for a Top Role Play score in Accounting while Brett Williams was acknowledged for a Top Exam score in Hotel & Lodging. In addition, Curtis Hartley was recognized for both Top Role Play and Top Exam scores in Accounting while Mackenzie Porter was awarded for Top Role Play and Top Exam scores in Fashion Merchandising & Marketing.

UCM Collegiate DECA

International Collegiate Development Conference Anaheim, CA April 16 21, 2013 Aside from recognitions for competitive events, a number of UCM students were awarded for individual accomplishments. Hunter Hoyer, who competed in Accounting, was one of nine Collegiate DECA members at the conference awarded with the NAPA DECA Scholarship. Two officers of UCMs Collegiate DECA chapter, Jeff Mason (Chief Executive Officer) and Andrea Young (Vice President of Professional Development), earned the Collegiate DECA Chapter Leadership Award. All eight of UCM DECAs officers were recognized as recipients of the Gold Individual Leadership Passport Award and 22 members were awarded with the Blue Individual Leadership Passport Award. Finally, UCMs Assistant Professor of Management and Collegiate DECA Advisor Matt Houseworth was recognized as an Advisor of the Year. In addition, the chapter was awarded with the Presidential Chapter Leadership Passport Award. This award is the highest recognition a chapter can receive at ICDC, with only 20 of more than 200 universities achieving the recognition.
