System Specifications
This manual contains information and installation instructions for the Delta Power System with part number ES-48/135-RAU02. The shelf is one (1) rack unit tall, has three AC inputs, three (3) rectifier slots, a controller (PSC3), alarm cable connection, and a DC output distribution section. The shelf power specifications are provided in the table below.

Rectifier Specifications
The rectifiers are rated for operation in a temperature range of -40C and 75C. The output power of the rectifiers de-rates above 45C, see rectifier datasheet for more information. The airflow of the rectifiers is horizontal, front-to-back.

Controller Specifications
The PSC3-series controller is a telecom-grade controller designed to work with Delta Greentech power systems. The controller provides the user with monitoring and control via a display and push buttons, an Ethernet based graphical user interface (GUI), and SNMP. In addition, an event log is available for review of past alarms and events. For more information on the controller refer to the Configuration instructions Controller PSC3. See section 4.7 for information on controller connections.

These safety instructions are an extension of any national laws governing health and safety at work and the applicable standards, as well as any regulations of the statutory authorities. Installation shall only be performed by trained persons familiar with the local installation regulations. The local installation regulations must always be followed (covering installation in the building and main AC distribution panels). It is also necessary to follow the instructions provided in the system user manual for installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance.

Limitations
The equipment is mainly intended for telecommunications purposes only. The equipment is not intended for use in applications in which the failure of the equipment could lead to death, person injury, or severe physical or environmental damage. Delta is not responsible for any danger or damage resulting from incorrect installation, maintenance, operation or usage of the equipment, use beyond its intended purpose, failure to observe state instructions, and/or failure to observe the applicable safety regulations. Delta is only responsible for components and services provided by Delta. Third party components and/or services, such as batteries, repair and/or maintenance used in and/or conducted for the equipment, are not the responsibility of Delta. Furthermore, Delta is not responsible for any malfunction or danger of, and/or damage to/resulted from the equipment caused by such third party components and/or services. Unauthorized modifications to the equipment may result in incorrect operation and/or performance. The operator is responsible for the consequences of any modification in the hardware configuration that are made without an agreement with the manufacturer or authorized representative. Installation, operation and maintenance of the equipment should only be performed by suitably qualified personnel with appropriate training. The operator is responsible for ensuring that personnel working with the equipment are provided with appropriate operation and safety training. The operator is responsible for ensuring that location of the system is treated as an electrical equipment room. The equipment is designed for

installation and use in areas designated as Restricted Access Location only. These rooms must have appropriate air-conditioning. The operator is also responsible for ensuring that the system rack doors are securely locked and not accessible to unauthorized persons. If the power supply to the system is not fitted with a disconnecting switch or equivalent device, the operator is responsible for fitting an appropriate disconnection switch conforming to the relevant regulations.

Third party devices


Delta is not responsible for devices, such as batteries that are not supplied by Delta. Delta is not responsible for any danger or damage resulting from devices not supplied by Delta.

2.3

Safety instructions
Warnings, cautions, and notes are used to identify important information. They are classified as follows:

Warning! A warning means that injury or death is possible if the information or instructions are not obeyed.

Caution! A caution means that damage to equipment is possible if the information or instructions are not obeyed

Note! Notes are additional information which may be useful to the operator.

2.3.1

General instructions
Warning! Hazardous voltages are present within the equipment when a source of electrical power is applied. There is the risk of electrical shock from the main power supply and/or batteries When working on equipment with power applied, supervision of personnel is required. The supervisor must be capable of providing first aid in the event of electrical shock. Provision of an emergency switch or disconnection strap is not sufficient protection. There is increased risk of accidents and electrical hazards when working on compact equipment due to the close proximity of components. Operation of compact equipment requires extra attention to safety.

Warning! Protective shields and other safety devices provided with the equipment must be in place when the equipment is operated.

The power system may have dual energy supply. Hazardous voltages may be present at the main power connector and within the equipment for up to 10 seconds after disconnecting the power supply. The operator is responsible for securing the proper precautions for maintenance or service purposes. During installation and maintenance, protective shields may be temporarily removed. Use suitable insulated tools and appropriate clothing. Handle fuses only with tools provided for this purpose, for example, load-break switch handles. Adequate insulation from ground potential (earth) must be provided when working on the equipment.

Warning! High temperatures present. Localized areas of high temperature (<70 C) may occur within the rectifier/inverter/distribution rack. Take precautions against accidental burns.

Warning! Moving parts Devices, such as rectifiers and environmental control for cabinets contain fans. These may also continue to rotate for some time after the power has been removed.

Warning! Heavy equipment The weight of the equipment requires suitable safety considerations. Additional personnel or lifting equipment may be needed. Where required, the weight of equipment is stated on the front of the unit.

Warning! Sharp edges Equipment may have sharp edges. We recommend you wear gloves.

Caution! Do not restrict air flow. Fit blank panels for empty rectifier slots to ensure correct air circulation inside cabinet.

Caution! Use only suitable measuring devices. Calibrate measuring devices regularly.

Caution! This equipment is designed to permit the connection of the earthed conductor of the DC supply circuit to the earthing conductor at the equipment. Where devices, such as batteries, that are not supplied by Delta are used, please read and observe all safety notices and instructions supplied by the appropriate manufacturer or supplier.

Start-up Procedure
The following procedure provides an overview of the steps to install and power-up the system. See section 4 for details on each step. Step 1 Step 2 Install shelf into a relay rack (section 4.3) Plug in the AC cable(s) into the shelf, but do NOT plug into receptacle

Note! Within a few seconds, the rectifiers OK LED should turn green, the controller LCD display should power up, and the rectifiers COM LED should turn orange indicating that it is communicating with the controller. Installation
This section will discuss the necessary detail to install the system. The system comes fully assembled and all the connections (other than customer DC and AC connections) are made at the factory. There is no internal, shelf or module wiring required.

4.1

Tools Required
The following tools are recommended: #2 Phillips 7/16 nut driver or socket Torque wrench

4.2

Unpacking
Prior to removing the system from the box, note any damage to the packaging. Remove the system from the box and inspect the system for any dents or damage. If any damage is noted, contact the shipping carrier immediately.

Caution! Ensure a clean, dust-free environment during the installation of the system. Excessive dust can reduce the lifespan of electronics in the system. Leave rectifiers in packaging until the system is ready to power-up. See section 0 for power-up procedure.

4.3

System Mounting
Airflow moves from the front of the system to the rear of the system; therefore a minimum of two inches (2) is required in front and back of the system for proper airflow. Craft access is required for both the front and rear of the system. Install the system into a standard 19 wide telecom relay rack.

Caution! System is suitable for mounting on concrete or other noncombustible surfaces only.

4.4

AC Input Connections
The AC inputs on the shelf are IEC320-C20 connectors that are rated for 0A to 20A at 120 - 240 VAC per connector. The commercial AC service breaker should not exceed this rating. See system specification table in section 1.1 and the rectifier specification table in section 1.2 for information on the rating of the AC service. Additional current derating via the controller software may be required to meet site restrictions/requirements. See section 4.7 for information on accessing the controller. A readily accessible disconnect device shall be incorporated in the building installation wiring. The over current protection devices should be provided as part of the building installation for protection against over current, short circuit, and earth faults. The electrical circuit breaker should conform to UL489. Each AC cord should be plugged into a receptacle on a dedicated circuit. The commercial AC service breaker should be 20A or less.

Warning! The system operates at AC voltages that can produce fatal electrical shock. Installation and maintenance personnel must observe all safety precautions.

Warning! The commercial AC circuit breaker at the AC panel must be in the off position or the AC cables to the system must be unplugged from the receptacle before attempting to service the system.

Grounding
Chassis Ground
A chassis ground connection is provided on the rear, left (when facing from the front) of the system. The ground connection is a set of double -20 holes with 5/8 centers. The return bar is isolated from the chassis.

Note! Delta recommends a minimum of a #6 AWG insulated grounding conductor for the chassis ground. Follow company and local standards for grounding practices.

4.5.2

CO Ground
A third return connection is provided on the return bar as a DC ground. The DC ground connection is a set of double -20 studs with 5/8 centers. See the table of applicable lug part number on the next page. The return bar is isolated from the chassis.

Note! Delta recommends an insulated grounding conductor, at least identical in size and insulation characteristics to the other conductors. Follow company and local standards for grounding practices.

4.6

DC Distribution Connections
The DC distribution consists of two (2) bulk output connections through a normally closed load disconnect contactor. These connections will accept two pairs of 4 AWG or 2 AWG wire using double-hole lugs with holes and 5/8 centers. See table below for part numbers of available lugs from several vendors. All DC connections are isolated from the chassis. Follow all company and local standards for grounding.

4.7

Controller Connections
The power system uses the PSC3-series controller to monitor and control the system components. It has multiple connections that allow the customer to interface with the device including alarm outputs and Ethernet. See the Configuration Instructions Controller PSC3 for more information.

4.7.1

Alarm Cable Connection


The controller has a connector to provide six (6) form-C output alarms (NO and NC). The alarm cable is available separately from Delta. The cables controller end is the mating connector to the system and the user end is bare wire.

The controller arrives pre-programmed with a default set of parameters and alarms to provide common, safe functionality of the system with or without batteries. The default alarm configuration is as follows. 4.7.2

Ethernet Connection
The PSC3 uses Ethernet and common internet browsers (Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) to communicate between a computer and the controller. Use the following steps to connect a laptop to the controller. The controller employs a DHCP server to assign an IP address to the laptop. Please ensure that the laptop is setup to accept an IP address from a DHCP server. See the Configuration Instructions Controller PSC3 for information on using the Ethernet port. Ethernet cables are not provided by Delta. You can make the Ethernet connection with a straight-thru or crossover cable.

Note! Any parameters changed from the defaults must be saved by clicking the save button at the top of the user interface. Otherwise the system will return to the default parameters when power is lost.

4.7.3

Load-Disconnect Contactor
Both DC output connections are in series with a load-disconnect contactor. This contactor can be opened upon customer input from the web interface or SNMP command. Use the following steps to open and close the load-disconnect contactor. From Web Interface Step 1 Step 2 From web interface go to Home>Maintenance>RS Latch Click on TRIGGER for LVD Trigger, which will open the contactor and disconnect the load from the rectifiers

Caution! Issuing the TRIGGER command will result in a loss of power to the equipment and shut it down. The rectifiers will continue to operate and the controller will issue an LVD Open alarm. Step 3 Click on RESET for LVD Trigger, which will close the contactor and reconnect the load

Caution! Issuing the TRIGGER command will result in a loss of power to the equipment and shut it down. The rectifiers will continue to operate and the controller will issue an LVD Open alarm. Step 4 Set LVD Trigger to FALSE and submit which will close the contactor and reconnect the load

4.7.4

Rectifier Current Limit

4.7.5

LCD Access
If a laptop computer is not available, you can change some parameters from the LCD interface. There is no specific location from the LCD to log into the controller. The controller will ask you to login when you attempt to change a parameter. If you need to change the LCD password, which is different from the web interface password, use the following procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Press Enter to access the Menu button Go to Main>5. Troubleshooting
Most troubleshooting information is available from the controller. See the PSC3 Troubleshooting Instructions manual for information on troubleshooting controller alarms. In addition, the rectifiers provide some alarm indications from the LEDs on each rectifier. The information below discusses the meaning of the LED statuses. OK LED is solid green - The rectifier is operating normally OK LED is blinking green - The rectifier is in standby mode because of a user command from the controller OK LED is solid red - The rectifier is not operating due to an AC input being out of the operating range (under-voltage or over-voltage) - The rectifier is not operating due to over-temperature protection (OTP) - The rectifier is not operating due to a fan failure - The rectifier is not operating due to a DC overvoltage protection (OVP) - The rectifier is not operating due to improper installation OK LED is off - The rectifier is not working due a loss of AC (Mains) power - The rectifier is not working due to a rectifier failure COM LED is solid green - The rectifier is communicating with the controller COM LED is off - The rectifier is not communicating with the controller COM LED is blinking green - The controller is identifying the rectifier module via a user command from the controller STA LED is solid red - The rectifier is shut down permanently (latched protection) due to an overtemperature or a DC over-voltage LD LED is solid yellow - The rectifier is operating at less than 5% load LD LED is blinking yellow - The rectifier is operating in current limit mode - The DC output of the rectifier is short circuited
