Sampling 2011 Organisers

Advancing professional excellence in the mining industry for over 10 years

Since 1998, Gecamin has organised highly technical, international seminars and conferences that focus on generating interdisciplinary collaboration within the mining industry. Our seminars and conferences allow for the exchange of best practices, innovative experiences and new technologies applied to the mining industry. Gecamin seeks to provide a venue where professionals from mining companies, suppliers, research centres and universities can meet and interact, fostering an international network of knowledge and exchange. Due to its well-recognised expertise and location in Santiago, Chile, one of the worlds main hubs of mining activity, Gecamin was awarded the organisation of the fifth version of the World Conference on Sampling and Blending. Having the honour of hosting the worldwide conference is not only a milestone for our country, but for the region as well. Over 12000 professionals have attended Gecamin seminars and conferences focused on multiple topics of great importance to the mining industry, including geology and mining, sustainability and environmental issues, mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, maintenance, automation and human resources. The joint effort between authors, presenters, committee members, delegates and the Gecamin team is what makes our highly-technical events a great success. We trust the fifth version of WCSB will contribute to the development of a tradition and the history of Gecamin events in Chile. Gecamin Team www.gecamin.com

Welcome to WCSB5

Correct sampling and blending for process optimisation

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the fifth version of the World Conference on Sampling and Blending. We are very excited to have this conference for the first time in Chile and be the ones to host it. One of the aims of the SAMPLING conference is to promote an exchange of knowledge and ideas between industry practitioners and researchers working in all fields of industry that require sampling to improve and assure quality in their production. During the next three days you will be able to hear over 50 presentations from 14 countries that will debate key issues both in theory as in practice, related to sampling and blending processes in diverse areas such as mining, geostatistics, quality assurance and quality control, creation and improvement of standards and sampling for food among others. The experience and expertise that will be shared among all delegates will add substantially to the knowledge base about sampling processes for the improvement of industry procedures. Your valuable contributions provide an important voice in steering advances in sampling research and practice and help all define an agenda for future work in this important area. We invite you to actively participate in the discussions, share your insights and experiences with colleagues from around the world, enjoy the Chilean hospitality and take full advantage of the many networking opportunities offered during the conference. We hope that with your support and enthusiasm WCSB5 will be a wonderful opportunity for us all.
