In July 2012, 3 engineering schools HEI, ISA and ISEN Lille collaborated together to become Group HEI ISA ISEN, one of the premier centres of higher education in the fields of engineering and sciences in Europe. HEI, ISA and ISEN Lille have several points in common : Nonprofit organisation status, CTI (commission des titres dingnieur) accredited degrees, strong industrial ties... If each school maintains and develops its brand, its degrees, its expertise, the creation of Group HEI ISA ISEN will enable it to undertake new common projects centred around innovation and transdisciplinarity for students and companies. www.groupe-hei-isa-isen.com

A WEALTH of ProSPECTS!
he masters degree in Sustainable Food Manufacturing Management aims to train French and international executives to appreciate the constraints of food production, minimize its impact on the environment, set up the necessary quality standards and sustainable development actions and improve corporate performance. Open to students from different countries and sometimes very disparate cultural traditions, this Masters degree is intended to train tomorrows managers in countries which are faced with the issue of resolving a host of challenges in the food-based economy. The Masters includes a global and sustainable management dimension which is needed to train those managing the significant developments currently being experienced in the agricultural product processing industries in emerging countries.

The internationalization of the students skills and personal qualities will quickly take concrete form and provide a foundation on which they can build: Students have to manage professional projects in multicultural groups (international student body with students from Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, the Middle East ); They will acquire a high level of professional and technical English and French language; They will make the most of French expertise in food production The program is entirely taught in English by an international team of Professors, researchers and professionals of the food sector. Students therefore benefit from the additional global expertise of Professors and experts from France and other countries. These two years provide the students with both solid professional experience and unique, enriching human experience. Together with the specific professional skills they will learn, these will make their profile stand out in the job market.

Key points for professionalization Industrial Projects

Project management and intercultural teamwork lie at the heart of the learning process. Project study enables students to develop the aptitude to work in teams and to put into practice transverse skillsets. It aims for the application of scientific, technical and managerial skills acquired in the various modules of the programme in a proactive, responsible way. These projects are carried out as a team one day a week. A fEW EXAMPLES of INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS Identifying the inuence of cultural factors on olfactory performance. Implementing a HACCP plan in powdered beverage plant. Formulating a new probiotic milkshake mix with benecial effects on human health. Analysis of the Indian market for the development of new food products. Optimizing the use of antioxidants in processing ready-touse vegetables. Studying the optimal conditions for the extraction, by hydrodistillation, of bioactive molecules from potato peels. Setting up professional hygiene and safety training courses. INTERNSHIPS Ensuring compliance to achieve ISO 22000 and ISO 14001 certications. Searching for new technologies that allow for the removal of salt from food products. Evaluating the opportunities for a launch of condiment sauces range with a clean label approach. Implementing initiatives to provide improved recycling of inows and outows at production sites. Studying the nutritional positioning of a product range. Evaluating the incidence of using milk powders in yoghurt on fermenting cultures. Minimizing the carbonation losses in soda packaged in PET plastic bottles.

Internships
These periods of professional immersion, carried out either in France or abroad, in a company or a laboratory, take place at the end of the first year (two to three months) and at the end of the second year (six months). They confront the students with the reality of corporate life and prepare them for their entry into active employment. Students must gradually develop their ability to act independently to solve problems posed by the host organisation. Within the industrial projects and the internships, each student is supervised by an industrial tutor and an educational contact. The projects and internships are described in a written report and an oral presentation in the presence of the company.

Durgarao KANTE (2010 graduate) Project Leader R&D, Lactalis-Nestl Fresh Products, France
The two main assets of this program are the well-targeted course curriculum for a complete food professional knowledge with on-site professionals and case studies, and the professional internships for a total of 8 months (The main difference I find compared to the international programs from other countries like US, UK and Australia etc..). To put it simply, KNOWLEDGE tells what to do and EXPERIENCE tells what not to do. At ISA, I feel that I have learned both.

Skills and job opportunities

At the end of the course, graduates will have skills based around three broad areas: t he ability to communicate and to manage projects in an international context, with multicultural teams; t he ability to implement a suitable methodology, knowledge and multidisciplinary skills to resolve problems; he ability to manage projects responsibly and to t offer sustainable initiatives for improvement. These technical and managerial skills allow ISA graduates to get diverse job positions in different departments: P roduction: organizing industrial production, understanding the interactions between products and processes, optimizing the production facility, measuring and controlling costs, managing flows and human resources. Food quality and safety: implementing HACCP , conducting a certification process (ISO 22000, ISO 9001, IFS, BRC etc.), carrying out audits, training staff in hygiene, optimizing traceability; S afety: diagnosing and evaluating personal safety risks, raising staff awareness and providing training; S ales: study markets, sales initiatives and techniques, improve customer follow-up, insert sustainablity in the supply chain and sales E nvironment: preparing and improving an ISO 14001 environmental management system, diagnosing environmental impacts, optimizing waste management and recovering co-products; M anagement: conduct and control the good practices , suggest new strategies for sustainable and responsible development of a food industry...

ISA corporate network

Since its creation, ISA has always been working in close cooperation with the professional and industrial world. All along the years, ISA has built a strong network, gathering today more than 200 partner companies. Every year, ISA organizes Company and Career Day: on this occasion, our partner companies and ISA students have the opportunity to meet and exchange on internships and job opportunities.
