Oman

Oman is a very dry and hot place. It has lots of features that makes it special. The population of Oman is 3,309,440 which was estimated in 2008. The population growth is 3.19% in 2008 this was estimated. In Oman only 3% of Elementary students went to school in 1970. Schools are free until university. The amount of people that work are 965,272 in 2006. People like to do story telling which is traditional. Oman has most of the usual sports such as soccer and swimming and more. They were in the Olympics ever since 1984. There are 4 athletes. 1 of them are shooters and the other 3 are in athletics in 2012. Soccer is played regularly. They got to compete in Beach soccer and there 3 spots to go in the FIFA World Cup. They helped organize the 2010 Beach games. Omanis official language is Arabic and English is widely spoken. Other languages such as Hindi, Urdu and Baluchi.The official religion is Islam and other religions are allowed under the basic law. 6% of the populations religion are Hindus and 5% are Christian. Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha are 2 religious festivals that Omani people do.

Omanis eat animals like some of us do. They like to eat sheep and goat. Omani peoples diet includes fish, sheep, goat, rice, and dates. They use spices and rice is often used. They eat soup of different variety's. Rice and meat are usually put together in a meal. Lunch is the main meal in a day and dinner is more of a lighter dish. Although there are heaps of dishs Omani people cook these are just some of them. Aursia is a festival dish. It is mashed rice with spices through it. Shuwa is another festival dish which contains meat cooked for up to 2 days in a clay oven. Rukhal is a thin bread made out of palm leaves. It is used in lots of meal and any meal of the day. It can be put over curry or have Omani honey over it. There are many more ways. Oman has lots of hot dry sandy beaches. Its borders are Saudi Arabia, Yemen and United Arab Emirates. Oman's capital [Masqat] is on the Tropic of Cancer. Oman has over 2,100km of coastline. Oman is in one of the driest regions of the world. They have an average of 100 mm of rainfall each year.

Oman is a complete Monarchy

This is the Omani flag and this is what it resembles The red bit is from Omanis last flag and represents Al Bu Said which has been ruling Oman since the mid 18 century. Also it resembles the struggle that Oman overcame when they were in search for piece. The white stands for the Islamic religious leaders and also the peace and prosperity. The green is the colour of Islam and represents the fertility which means the people born. Also the Al Jabal al Akhdar[ The Green Mountain] which is the north east of the country which is the highest point in Oman and is 3000 metres. Oman has had a lot of war. In 700 AD Arabs took over Oman and that is how is Islam came to Oman. Portugal took over Masqat in 1508-1648. Ahmad forced the Turks out when they had come at 1659. Ahmads ancestors still rule today. Sa'id bin Taimur had been kicked out by his son Sultan Qabus. In 1997 Oman and Yemen agreed about there borders. In 1997 Sultan Qabus let women be elected and in 2003 he let every one have the right to vote that was over the age of 21.
