FLUID DYNAMICS (Job Code IISC-FD)

Aerodynamics: The primary activities of the AECI aerodynamics team comprise aerodynamics analysis, data elaboration and synthesis, aero-data modeling and aircraft fairings design. Engineers also work on developing new technologies for aerodynamics simulations. Using the state-of-art HPC

The AECI structures team provides solutions from material to manufacturing and is responsible for assessing structural integrity of aircraft structures. The activities in this team are non-linear finite element simulations of aircraft structural components, materials and manufacturing processes, optimization, fatigue life estimation, and material qualification for metals, plastics and composites. Non-linear finite element analyses with advanced material models are used to capture the physics of the processes, and predict the accurate behavior of metallic plus composite structures. This team is also engaged in lofting and master geometry activities for various aircraft programs in the company. Above activities require knowledge of mechanics of materials, aircraft structures and computer-aided design.

LOADS & AEROELASTICS (Job Code LDS)

Loads activities involve developing, validating, and applying mathematical models to obtain the response of the aircraft in flight and ground under various conditions, for the purpose of calculating the external forces acting on the aircraft. Loads analysis involves flight dynamics and control, aerodynamics, structures, and structural dynamics.

FMS (Job Code IISC-FMS)

FMS is part of auto-flight function of the aircraft. Its main functions are to consolidate the position of the aircraft, to support the crew for flight planning using worldwide navigation database, to compute optimum speeds and altitudes in all the flight phases, to provide the crew with predictions along the flight plan, to guide the aircraft by giving orders to auto-pilot and auto-throttle systems, to support Datalink functions, and to support Airbus leading glass cockpits.

AECI is developing an FMS simulation that can run both on standalone PC and on cockpit research platforms. A380 version is already achieved; other aircraft versions are on going, and the simulation is already supporting research on new functions. It is developed in C++, Java, Matlab/Simulink, .net and exceeds 12 lakhs lines of control. The AECI simulated FMS allows improving FMS development efficiency by securing mature Airbus specifications, and supporting cockpit definition and innovation as the reference FMS simulation in Airbus.

DMU (Job Code IISC-DMU)

Digital Mock Up is used throughout the life cycle of aircraft development starting from concept phase, all along design phase, manufacturing and maintenance phases. Digital Mock Up is also extensively used for presenting the cabin layouts to customer. The primary activities of the DMU team include the designing of physical system architecture required to the study the global Aircraft architecture. The team is also engaged in the development of various tools and process to

support the system architecture layout and design activities .The team is involved extensively in the safety studies for the architecture. Each phase presents unique challenges and needs that require appropriate solutions. The AECI Digital Mock Up team provides these solutions through set of tools, defines processes to overcome any concerns, and finally helps achieving fast turnaround time.
