GERUNDS Definition of GERUNDS

Gerund is a verb ending in-ing that functions as a noun. Gerunds have the same form as the Participles, they both ending in-ing, but have different functions. Gerund is a noun formed from the verb ending in-ing, example: Verb Drive Live Meet Read Swim Write Noun Driving Living Meeting Reading Swimming Writing

WHEN WE USE GERUNDS? 1. AS A SENTENCE SUBJECT If we want to put Verbs in the beginning of the sentence, then we must turn it into a V-ing. Example : Reading is useful Sailing is my hobby Writing books is the work of an author pengarang Baking bread is the work of a baker Mending cars is the work of a mechanic montir Driving too fast is dangerous Learning Russian isnt easy Training everyday keeps you fit Traveling by air is expensive Membaca itu bermanfaat Berlayar adalah hobi saya Menulis buku adalah pekerjaan seorang

Memanggang roti adalah pekerjaan tukang roti Memperbaiki mobil adalah pekerjaan seorang

2. AS A SENTENCE OBJECT When Verbs functioning as sentence object, then use also V-ing (gerunds). 3. AFTER PREPOSITIONS If there is a verb after a preposition, it must be formed in gerunds.
