Assignment I VISE II WORKSHOP

Name: Juan Jara Almuna

General overall

The school’s name I was sent to is Saint Benedict, a small-size place

located in Santa Julia, Viña del Mar, middle class as reference, with about 900
students at most.

As for me, this school was a very good place to start working at, because
the teacher stuff and the pupils altogether were very kind and welcoming to me.
This allowed me developing - in certain aspects- many of the ideas I had in mind to
enhance student’s skills of English.

During the course of the semester, I focused my attention on observing students

behavior and the development of a proper English class within the classroom. I
wanted to make notes on that as a part of my research for VISE I. Just by then, I
caught a student cheating on an exam. This student was quite naughty and very
irresponsible for the tasks he was usually given. Also, he didn’t show any regret at
the moment I got back his exam and reported him to the teacher. A few minutes
later, without saying anything, the teacher started writing a notification in the course
book. That reaction was rather unexpected to me. So, I asked him why he didn’t do
anything with the naughty student who clearly had a problem requiring of attention.
And, he said hopelessly, “we have talked with these kind of students about that
many times. We have sent them in order that professionals could see over them,
but nothing has resulted as expected” In the end, the one I was talking about was
expulsed and at least other three ones suffered the same luck. Even though the
school has excellent references as a good education center, its doubtful methods
to gain prestige go over the ethic.
Question coming from the narration

1) What motivates the students’ misbehavior?

There are several factors such as the familiar relationship, the study environment
at school, the kind of motivation the student receives during the class period and
the friendship that this one can develop off and during class period.

2) How should the teacher deal with behavior problems when they turn up?

For these cases, it is preferable for the teacher to keep a close relationship with the
student. The pedagogue should try to create methods of motivation, group
participation and social development. When a student presents problems that
require professional attention, she/he should be derived to a specialist who will
diagnose a possible cause and then give advice on the steps to be taken.

3) Could an educational center expulse a student by alluding to unfulfilled

requirements?

Basing on legality, unfortunately, they can. However, the right for education
impedes the pupils to give up studies. For instance, they should be re-incorporated
into another educational center.
