INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY A sound and effective banking system is an essential need of a healthy economy. This system should be able to meet the challenges posed by technology, and other internal and external factors. The banking system in India is significantly different from that of other Asian nations, because of the countrys unique geographic, social, and economic characteristics. The advancement of technology and the birth of competition leading the banks to work in order to identify new niches, to develop customized services, to implement innovative strategies and to capture new market opportunities. On the other hand the globalization, deregulation, consolidation and diversification of the financial industry are putting complexity on the banking industry in the years. This study named as The study on the overall performance analysis of Malappuram District Co operative Bank ltd aims to analyze the overall performance of the bank , taking into consideration some of the factors that affect the performance of the cooperative bank. It is necessary to evaluate the internal performance of the bank using the financial statements relating to the bank. STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The major focus of this study is the performance criteria of the bank. So the research problem in this study is to find out the overall performance of the Malappuram district cooperative bank. NEED FOR THE STUDY This study deals with the overall performance criteria of the bank. The main intention of this study is to find out the section having the weaker performance base on the analysis of financial statements and moreover the study throw some insight into the existing service provided by the bank and the gap between the customer expectations, perceptions, and the actual state of performance revealed by the organization. SCOPE OF THE STUDY There are certain stakeholders for the banking business; they always look forward for the efficient performance of the bank every time. The customer placing his money in the bank always look for good performance, Government needs the stability in the performance to have an efficient financial system in the country. The study helps the management in order to know the weaker side of the business and can take necessary decisions to wipe out such defects of the bank.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY To evaluate the overall performance of the Malappuram District Co-operative Bank Ltd. The dimensions for evaluating the overall performance of this study constitute: The evaluation of the financial performance of MDC Bank Ltd Evaluation of the management information system To find out the efficiency of the bank in providing services to the customer.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Research methodology is a science of studying how research is done scientifically. It is a way to systematically solve the research problem by logically adopting various steps. Methodology helps to understand not only the products of scientific inquiry but the process itself. The methodology followed for conducting the study includes the specification of research design, sample design, data collection and statistical tools used for analyzing the collected data. RESEARCH DESIGN A research design is a basis of frame work, which provides guidelines for the rest of research process. It is the map of blue print according to which, the research is to be conducted. The research design specifies the method of study. Research design is prepared after formulating the research problem. The present study is descriptive in nature. Descriptive research studies are those studies which are concerned with describing the characteristics of a particular individual or group.

RESEARCH PROBLEM
Here the research problem is to study and analyze the overall performance of the bank. Since the performance of the organization is a major issue relating to various stakeholders of the bank , it is important to know the strength and weakness areas through the study.

TYPE OF RESEARCH
The type of research adopted to study the overall performance of the bank is descriptive research. Descriptive research studies are those studies which are concerned with describing the characteristics of a particular individual or group. Descriptive studies are fact finding investigation and whose interpretations are more specific than explanatory studies.

POPULATION
The total element of the universe from which sample is selected for the purpose of study is known as population. Here it constitute the customers of the bank and moreover the financial data of the bank.

SAMPLING METHOD
The sampling method used in this study is convenient sampling. Convenient sampling is the non probability and it is a simple method of sampling. There will not be any statistical interference in this method. A convenience sample is a sample where the persons are selected, in part or in whole, at the convenience of the researcher. The researcher makes no attempt, or only a limited attempt, to insure that this sample is an accurate representation of some larger group or population. The getting respondents from the location where they are mostly convenient for researcher

SAMPLING SIZE
The items collected from the population are known as sample. It is decided to select 100 customer samples.

SOURCE OF DATA
The task of data collection begins after a research problem has been defined and research design checked out. While deciding about the method of data collection to be used for the study, the researcher should kept in mind two types of data. They are: Primary data Secondary data

Primary data Primary data is a data which is collected for first time for a particular study. Here the primary data is decided to collect through questionnaire and interview with management authorities.

Secondary data The secondary data will be collecting through referring the books, journals, accounts, annual report of MDC Bank, and websites. TOOLS FOR ANALYSIS The tools like ratio analysis , comparative study , trend analysis with respect to the analysis of financial performance and asset quality.Likert scale for analyzing management performance. LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY The expecting limitation is with respect to the collection of necessary financial data; moreover the busy schedule of employees and the accuracy in the response from the customers are the other expecting limitations.
