Issue 7 May 2013

Turnaround Network

Dear Turnaround Team Administrators and Teachers,

I am excited to bring you this issue of the Turnaround Team Times newsletter. We hope that you will read this publication carefully because it contains important, valuable information that will help all of you in the work that you do to improve student achievement. I am particularly pleased about some of the great professional development that will be offered to the teachers in our network near the end of the summer. Read this newsletter carefully for more information. Then, mark your calendars and prepare to join us as we get ready to kick off the 2013-2014 school year! Meanwhile, the 2012-2013 school year is still in session. As we begin this last month of school, it is vital that you do not relax your expectations for the students. Just because testing is finished and summer is near does not mean that teaching and learning are finished. We still have several weeks of school and they are very important to ensuring that your students master the curriculum and are prepared for next year. It is also important that you all work together to make your school a great learning place for students. This month, I would like to expand on this standard: A team effort for the success of all students While this list is certainly not all encompassing, these are some of the things that indicate that this standard is in place in a school. Everyone, including staff, students, and parents, know exactly what is expected of them and strive to carry out those expectations All faculty and staff members understand the vision and mission of the school and know and take pride in carrying out their specific role and responsibility to help to accomplish it All faculty and staff members take responsibility for the safety and security of every student at all times A master schedule is in place that provides embedded collaborative meeting times for teachers Teachers meet regularly to discuss the curriculum, identify collective goals, develop strategies to achieve those goals, gather and analyze relevant data, and learn from one another PBIS, ABIT, and other teams are in place and functioning well to meet the needs of the school and students. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your dedication and commitment to the children in your care. Your hard work is much appreciated. With great respect for what you do, Karen Bucher
