Time: 8:10-9:20 Mathematics-G2 Statistics and Data Analysis Reading Graphs SMP#5, 5.MD.2, NV 5.5.1.a-b, NV 5.5.2.a-b, NV 5.5.3 Procedures: Activity (whole class): Teacher will review problem #5, using the Kagan strategy Round Table, from 2013 Instructional Materials from the Criterion Referenced Test (Nevada) Grade 5. Students will be divided into three equal sized groups according to their progress on ST math. Center 1 (small group/pairs): Students will complete their Reading Graphs worksheet, levels 2 & 3. th Center 2 (independent): Students will work in self-paced mode with 5 Grade curriculum through Web based ST Math program:Patterns and Relationships, Using Parentheses, Multi-Digit Multiplication, Multi-Digit Division, Exponents, Volume, Area, Shapes & Properties, Decimal Place Value, Comparing with Decimals, Rounding Decimals, Addition/Subtraction with Decimals, Multiplying with Decimals, Dividing with Decimal, Fraction and Decimal Concepts, Using Data and Graphs, Fraction Addition and Subtraction, Integers, Linear Functions, The Coordinate Plane, Angles, Temperature and Capacity. Center 3 (independent): Students will work on individually assigned content and with a self-paced th 5 grade Common Core Standards based learning path on ScootPad. The Common Core Standards covered by the current self-paced units are: Unit 1 (self-paced) 5.MD.1 Elapsed time in minutes 5.NBT.5 Multiply 2-digit by 2-digit, factors, missing steps 5.OA.3 - Input/output tables, addition rules Unit 2 (self-paced) 5.NBT.1 Convert between pace values 5.NBT.2 Multiply whole numbers by 10, 100, 1000 5.NBT.5 - Multiply 2-digit y 2-digit factors 5.NF.2 - Add fractions, word problems 5.OA.2 - Write simple expressions Daily Objective: Content Objectives: I will understand how to collect, organize, display, and interpret data. Language Objectives: I will collect data and be able to represent it neatly on a number line, bar graph, line graph, and pie chart. Language Function: Evaluate and describe

Concept and Skill Development and Application: Use data to represent specific pieces of information about real-world objects or activities. Use a number line to identify and demonstrate extremes, where the points pile up, and where the gaps are. Demonstrate the ability to collect, organize, and display data in number lines, bar graphs, pie charts, and line graphs. Explain that data come in many forms and that collecting, organizing, and displaying data can be done in many ways. Demonstrate how a sample predicts the characteristic of a large set and explain the effects of sample size.

Guided/Independent/Group Practice:

Whole Group, Small Group, Pairs, and Independent

Homework Assignments: None

Long-Term Memory Review: Students will gather and interpret data and be able to present the data using each of the different types of graphs.

Closure: Students will understand how to label each part of a graph.

Questions: Vocabulary: bar graph, circle graph, line graph, mean, median, mode, number line plot, range, sample Does student understand that data represents specific pieces of information? Can students read and interpret information from a number line? Can students summarize data? Can students display data in simple bar graphs, pie charts, and line graphs? Can students read and interpret information form bar graphs, pie charts, and line graphs? Does student understand the basic concept of sample?
