H1.5.6. I can identify different groups who are responsible for finding and settling in the colonies. G5.5.4 I can make maps that give information about different aspects in the United States G6.5.2 I can identify places that have some historical events that have occurred in America

E. Procedure: 1. Students will have a free-write journal; students will be able to share at random. 2. We will discuss the last region of the colonies briefly. We will visit the website, http://mrnussbaum.com/13colonies/13regions/#s2 to discuss the basis of what made up the southern colonies; students are to color the Southern colonies green. This lesson will be a more student- led lesson. 3. Students will break up into 5 groups. Each group will be given a colony. Each group will visit the website, http://mrnussbaum.com/13colonies/13profiles/. Students will complete a jigsaw: read the information on their given state, write down facts about it, and draw a picture. When each group is done, they will present their jigsaw to the class, the other students are to take notes. 4. We will watch the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3KAOWye1AM, then discuss the material. 5. CLOSURE: The teacher as well as the students will give their thoughts on the Southern colonies. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? The students jigsaws as well as their questionnaire will serve as the measure I will use to see how much my students understood. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Based on what information they were able to paraphrase and give accurate accounts for as well their answer to the questionnaire, I will be able to get an accurate read of how much my students understand.

1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? Having students watch the video and having a discussion about it will probably be the easiest part of the lesson. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I do not think any part of the lesson will be challenging. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I would follow this lesson up by having students do a project of some sort. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? Review the lesson, pinpoint what they do not understand, and do more work on the topic.

5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I think the lesson is fine the way it is. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? Nothing seemed to be difficult.
