C2

Evidence
The evidence was that the gnat buzzed away to tell the whole world about how he defeated the Lion. He felt this way because he was only a small bug who defeated the king of beasts. He also wanted respect because people didnt think the gnat could do anything. Big animals will always think that small animals cant do anything because they are not as strong as big animals. For small animals, it is very hard to defeat big animals. If small animals defeat big animals, they will obviously feel proud.

Main Idea
Major ideas in the story were: Pride always leads to fall Respect everyone- you can always make a difference Dont underestimate your opponent- big or small

King and the barber

By Deepika Reddy

Once upon a time there was a big kingdom called Nerada. It was ruled by a very nice and powerful king named Arthur. People lived very happily in his kingdom. The king had a personal barber named Peter. He was a very professional barber. Every morning he would shave the kings beard. One particular morning, when the king was sleeping, Peter did the shaving without awakening the king. When Arthur woke up, he saw his face in the mirror and was surprised to see that his beard was already shaved. He asked if his beard was shaved by Peter. He said yes. Arthur was amazed and granted Peter a wish that anything he wants. To everyones surprise, including the king, the barber asked for half of the kingdom. Arthur had no choice but to grant the wish he had promised. The barber felt very proud after his wish was granted. He wanted to tell whole world that he had now become a king. But he didnt stop there. Peter wanted to become the Emperor by occupying the neighboring kingdoms. So, he declared war on the neighboring kings. Unfortunately he was defeated very badly as he was not a real king and therefore didnt have any experience. Barbers pride leads

him to fall.

The Tap Dancer

A 1

Sequencing/Events
1) The horse wanted to become a famous tap dancer more than anything else in the world. 2) He decided to have a recital and invite his friends but one friend said that you are not a tap dancer, you are just a horse. You are an animal like the rest of us. You will never be a tap dancer. 3) The horse didnt care and said that I know I am a great tap dancer, I will continue to practice and dance for myself.

A 2

Cause and Effect

If the cause was someone laughing at the horse, the effect was that the horse was calmly ignoring his friend and minding only what he thinks. Maybe its because he knows that his friend wants to be mean to him and he will stop saying mean things if the horse just ignores him. Once when the cause was someone laughing at me, the effect was me getting really angry because I felt really bad about someone doing that to me. My face was also turning reddish-pink and I told on that person. I was also very sad because I felt teased and embarrassed. The horses reaction was very different from mine because he just ignored them and didnt mind but I cared and had different feelings like anger and sadness.

A 3

Consequences and Implications

If the audience had clapped, then the horse would be happy and wouldnt have to take an extra step on ignoring his friends on what they thought. Also the outcome would be different because he wouldnt have to dance for himself. Instead, he could make more new moves, recitals, and more stage shows. Then he would become a famous tap dancing horse and would have a lot of fans and he will have way more fun and happiness than doing it by himself.

The Tap Dancer

C1 Characterization
The horse was a flexible thinker because he didnt think of his friend in a mean way and instead he was still positive. A hard-worker because he worked hard when he practiced. Confident because he believed in himself and knew he was officially a tap dancer. Persistent because he consistently practiced tap dancing a lot so he could become really good. Creative because he found the rocks flat surface and used it to his advantage by tap dancing on it. Managed impulse because he didnt say something mean or shout at his friend for saying something mean to him. I admire mostly his mood because if I had that kind of mood I would rarely be sad and I like being happy.

C2

Evidence/Inference
The evidence in the story says that the horse wanted to become a famous tap dancer more than anything. He ignored his friend when he/she insulted him by saying he wasnt a tap dancer. The horse didnt care about what others thought about him instead he stayed confident, tap dancing for himself. A detail is that he said Now I am a tap dancer. These examples tell me that the horse was very serious and he knew that tap dancing was important to him.
