1. Every PSA in MAFA has their own leadership structure and style. How do you plan on ensuring that your MAFA board is on an even scale/level at the beginning of your term? To ensure that my MAFA board is on an even scale/level at the beginning of my term, I plan on holding a couple of informational get-togethers (via Google Hangout), in which everybody will be notified of the standings they should be in and the standards that they should uphold. In doing this, I hope to accomplish a common understanding of responsibilities and plans that each organization should be aware of. 2. At this year's summit, the theme was Ano Ang Kwento Mo? As a member of MAFA, you are a unique person with your own story and personality, so what is your story? My story is long and rooted in strength, love, and courage. I grew up as the youngest in a family of four, and always felt as if I was being overshadowed by my older siblings. It wasn't until I was halfway through my high school career that I ventured into things that none of my siblings have ever tried. I joined Filipino club and became a dancer for their dance team. I had found my niche. I always thought that the cultural experiences that I had growing up in America were ones that only me and my family shared, but the Filipino community at my school showed me that I wasn't alone in the experiences that I had. I didn't have to feel as if the only people that went through the same hardships as me were my family and that others had gone through the same things. From this point on, I grew as a leader in the Filipino community and even branched out to the broader Asian American community of Chicago. I became aware of the importance of unity amongst people, especially those that have common backgrounds. That is why I decided to continue to be involved in the Filipino community in college and joined the Filipino American Student Organization at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Coming from Chicago, where you don't face that much adversity due to the strong Filipino community, Madison was a whole different experience because it is majority white. It really reinforced the importance of having a strong community that you can be a part of. Being a coordinator for the Midwest Fil-Am Summit gave me the opportunity to bring together the Filipino community in the Midwest. It gave the possibility of having people share their experiences- of facing hardships and adversity, and overcoming it- and the opportunity to bond over these experiences.
