2-Design process :how does the project come together? Function of rooftop: - Rooftop car park before 2009 - Rooftop garden that now houses a fitness club, a dance club, a restaurant

3-Goals: what are the key goal? (social, economic, ecological, aesthetics?) Social -Turned the entire concept of the topsy-turvy Bukit Bintang shopping experience by locating the proposed facilities of the new development not on the street level where the normal shopper traffic is located but moving them 8 storeys up onto what was previously the rooftop carpark for the Lot 10 shopping complex. - Transform the image of Lot 10 into an entertainment hub but also reinforce the corporations commitment towards green initiatives, promotions of the arts and healthy lifestyle living. - Enhance the image of Kuala Lumpur as a city centre.

-Attract more tourists and also local people to come and feel the city from above ground level. Economic -Self-irrigation and tropical plant ease the maintenance and thus lower the maintenance cost. - The rooftop garden attract people to use the facilities and services, eg fitness centre provided on the rooftop which used to be 'dead' business because of the bad circulation and environment of the rooftop carpark. Ecological -The implementation of green landscape design that brings the forest environment in the city makes the area become greener and fresh. - Increase the number of green space in the limited land in Kuala Lumpur that most of the areas are being developed with high building. Aesthetics -Harmony combination of landscape design and modern architectural design that inspired by an origami form. -For a limited space, it become wider with planting scheme that manipulate tree with high trunk that give the illusion of space. - The lighting effect enhance the image of the rooftop garden at night.

4-Design:What are the key design concepts? The inspiration for form? How does the designer translate goals into form? -The unique strategy of translocating shoppers from the bustling street-level to elevated lush green jungle-style landscape involves internal and external lifts critically playing the role of signaling beacons that mark clear and visible routes and pathways for the transfer to occur. - The landscape courtyards serve as green visual and physical counterpoints for all interior spaces while the various buildings are connected by shaded alleyways. - Tight circulation spaces that solved by designer- designer expected visitors to stumble upon various surprises- turn a corner and gaze upon vertical gardens and forested patches dispersed between facades or enter through a small door and find themselves within a large room. - Zig-zag pathway to suit the concept of folding 'origami' walls of surrounding building on the rooftop.

- Concept of 'Forest in the city concept' by placing different types of plants horizontally and vertically. 5-Site visit(s): What does the project look like? How does it work? How does it feel? - The suitability of landscape design with the surrounding play an important role to ensure the area really makes users feel comfort. - Amaze with planting scheme with a variety of forest shrubs in many forms and species and vertical landscape that being applied there. -Different experience transferring from the ground level to the rooftop- from a busy area to a cozy area. - The rooftop garden is well-shaded by the plantation thus making the environment become breezy. - Different experience and feeling when you are there from evening to night- the night image of the rooftop garden enhance by the lighting effect. 6-Use: How is the place used? 7-Maintenance & Management: What are the problems of management & maintenance? What are the maintenance costs?

-Punched pipe to ease irrigation, thus reduce labour cost

-Side drainage surrounding green area to avoid water ponding in the green area and also pathway

- Carpet grass (Axonopus Affins)that is drought tolerant and better suited to drier shallower soils and reduce maintenance cost

-Lot10 rooftop garden is high human flow place, thus using non-flowering shrub(fern, Monstera, Palm Grass) rather than flower is to prevent luring of insect (bee.etc) cause by the pollen and giving a dangerous to the people. 8-Perception and meaning: Describe how the place is perceived and valued.

-Members that come fitness centre enjoy a spectacular view of the beautifully-landscaped courtyard.

-Location even more convenient for members of fitness centre and also visitor because of nice landscape compared to the previous car park. - Users used to be difficult to look for the fitness centre on the rooftop in the carpark. - Users found that it is relaxing to be at rooftop garden that is placed in a busy golden triangle of Kuala Lumpur. 9-Scale: What is the size of the project? Dimension of key elements? Amount of site coverage?

10.Pathway 10-Community: What is the social impact and meaning? How is the community served by this project? -With many outlets that being provided at the rooftop, such as Celebrity Fitness, Rootz Bar, Teeq Restaurant, it really lively the area and become a place for people to gather. -City people are actually being stress by work and all those hardscape concrete environment, so the lot 10 roof garden surrounded by all green element even the floor also use natural material. It will giving people feel relax and comfortable within this city in the forest and without the dangerous of forest. 11-Environmental sensitivity and impact: How is the environment served by this project? What is its contribution to sustainability? Environment Sustainability -Filter the dust and air -Provide a layer of protection to the wall and reduce heat gain -Stabilize the urban ecosystem -Reduce the urban heat island by regulate the temperature Social Sustainability -With more and more forest being cleared to make way for concrete jungles, 'Forest In the City' initiative helps to reverse this process by bringing back a bit of greenery to the city. 12-Technology: Is any specific technology used? Soil-on-a-shelf loose medium walls are introduce in the lot10 rooftop gardens living wall, steel gutter with waterproofing coating to support the soil and giving the drainage system through the piping which install inside the structure.

13-Lesson learned : Describe the project specific lesson learned as well as general lessons -Greenery of overhanging ferns and emerging foliage with a variety of tropical plants that make a planting scheme that brings comfort to users. - The value of the rooftop garden be enhanced by creating day and night activities. - Appropriate lighting scheme can enhanced the project. 14-Limitations - Tight circulation - The rooftop area also needs to be monitored at the same time to avoid social problems at that can happen among user, both local or foreigner. It is important to evade negative image of Kuala Lumpur as the city center of Malaysia.
