Abstract

Automated Hospital Management System is a process of implementing all the activities of the hospital that replaces manual hospital system into a computerized automated way to fasten the performance. The system helps to make the use of a fast, reliable and accurate management. It can be effectively used in many hospitals and nursing homes. This project would be developed with the complete approach of the software engineering from start to end. The project is all about making use of computers for the automated system. The simplicity of this project makes it an ideal candidate for a minor project and hence we believe that this project helps us in enhancing our knowledge in technical fields of computer programming.

Acknowledgement
The satisfaction that accompanies that the successful completion of any task would be incomplete without the mention of people whose continuous cooperation made it possible, whose constant guidance and encouragement crown all efforts with success. We are grateful to our Project coordinator Mr. Krishna Kandel and HOD of computer department Mr. Manish Aryal for the guidance, inspiration and constructive suggestions that helpful us in the preparation of this project. We also thank our colleagues who have helped in successful completion of the project and for their moral support. Finally we extend our gratitude towards Kathmandu Engineering College for providing the opportunity and the required environment to do this project. We would humbly welcome any suggestions and guidance for the improvement of this proposal.

1 Introduction
1.1 Project Background
World today has evolved into a more comfortable choice zones and the people have developed a desire to demand for a more appealing features in every sectors. Anything today has to have a specialty and compatibility in order to survive. Same goes for the management area of the hospitals. Hospitals being a busy working area needs a fast and reliable system. The traditional manual system of management is very primitive, error prone and consumes time. Since as the computers are taking over the need of an automated system becomes more important.

This main objective of this project is to build a system which helps to maintain the patient information, staff information, lab reports and to calculate the bill of the patient in a hospital. You can also manually edit any patient details and issue bill receipt to patient within few seconds. Our software has the facility to give a unique id for every patient and stores the details of every patient and the staff automatically. User can search availability of a doctor and the details of a patient using the id. Hospital Management System can be entered using a username and password. It is accessible either by an administrator or receptionist. This project aims to make a user friendly and simple system which is reliable for hospitals and other similar areas. The simplicity of this project insures the effectiveness of the system.

1.3 Problem Statement

Currently the client company depends on an error prone system which takes a large amount of manual work. The main disadvantage is time consuming and lack of security of the data. In todays world the manual system for hospital management slows down the efficiency of the hospital. The need of an automated system is very important for hospitals that require fast and reliable management system.

1.4 Objectives
The aim of the proposed system is to overcome the limitations of the current system. Following are the objectives of the proposed system:

To make ta fast, reliable automated system software that can replace the traditional manual hospital management system.
Create a user friendly and interactive interface for management system. Keep detailed information of patients, hospital staffs and lab reports. Security and accuracy of the information data. Simultaneously updates made to any data, item in the entire data base. Proper billing system for the patients.

1.5 Need
The team has planned to develop the Automated Hospital Management System for a well-known hospital called Kathmandu Nursing Home. Development of new system will help the client company to minimize the work load and eliminate the errors of existing system. It effectively maintains the details about the patient, staff and lab reports. The automated management system is faster than the primitive manual system as well.
