integrated marketing course, he was able to brand his show in an appealing way to BIO executives. According to Daniel, branding was the most important part of the process. We had to make them believe in this project, which was a challenge because paranormal investigation isnt always an easy pitch to make. Daniels hard work paid off and the future looks bright for him as he prepares for graduation this semester, putting all he has learned to work. According to Daniel, Dr. Melissa Gibson's Integrated Marketing Communications class really helped him develop his ability to streamline information and adjust messages to fit a specific audience. More so, the digital media focus of her course really helped him to understand what messages would persuade production companies. Daniel will graduate in the upcoming Graduate Commencement Ceremony as the Outstanding Student for the Communication Studies program. Upon graduation, The School of Graduate Studies and Research looks forward to seeing more of the distinguished graduate, television personality, developer and producer in the years to come.

Hello, my name is Sarah Ann Smith. I was born prematurely, weighing just 2 lbs. 2 oz.. The doctors were certain that if I survived, I would be blind, deaf, mute, and dependent on a respirator and ventilator for the rest of my life. While I defied those predictions, my premature birth and a SarahSmith lack of oxygen resulted in my being born with Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy, or CP. From fifth grade on, I attended City Honors School (CHS) at Fosdick-Masten Park, located in Buffalo, New York. During my time there, I was the only student with a physical disability. At first, the administration opposed my admission. They thought that I would tarnish their reputation, but I passed their entrance exam with flying colors, once again, defying the predictions! I was admitted to Edinboro University at the age of 17, and have overcome many challenges since then. These experiences and my passion to help and encourage others led to my decision to pursue a major in Social Work. I acknowledge the professors teaching within this Department. They not only provided me with a wonderful education, but taught me many valuable life lessons along the way. I plan to pursue employment in the Mental Health and Medical Social Work fields. I have many favorite sayings that have gotten me through some difficult times and Id like to share one of them with you as you prepare now for life after graduation: "Memories aren't created with time. It's what you do with the time you're given that lives forever. So, live every moment with grace and triumph, for even when you fall, there is an everlasting beauty in the scar it leaves. Falling proves you are human, getting up proves you are strong." Much love and appreciation, Sarah Smith Master of Social Work Here are four thoughts about life that Id like to share with you. Connect the Dots Some of my most valuable experiences - good and bad - have come from choices Ive made. They are dots on my life grid that can only be traced by looking backward. Ive also PaulKnobloch learned that you have to take chances to really experience life. Love and Loss - My father died of cancer nine years ago; I held his hand the moment he died, and it changed my life. He was a successful soldier, businessman, father and husband. His life was in order, his dots were connected, yet he wanted more time. I inherited that enthusiasm. His death reminded me to love those dear to me while I still can. The Rest of the World - I believe that people are inherently good and that if you wait long enough, they will surprise you. I have also discovered the gift of helping others experience excitement and happiness. If there is a formula for happiness, I believe it looks something like this: Tell the truth; Practice tolerance; Listen to feedback; Live in earnest; and apologize when you screw up. A Life Well Lived - I challenge each and every one of you to see the best in yourselves and in others. Live with passion and enthusiasm. Be curious and optimistic. Put dots on your grid. Love frequently and with abandon and trust that, in the end, the dots will connect and you will meet mortality with the satisfaction of a life well lived. Thank you, Paul Knobloch Master of Arts in Counseling

DanielHooven

Most students find it difficult to balance work and graduate study, but Daniel Hooven is not your typical graduate student. Currently enrolled in Edinboro Universitys M.A. in Communication Studies program, Daniel is already putting into practice what he has learned in class. In fact, the BIO channel recently picked up five episodes of his series, Haunted Encounters, based on the topic of paranormal investigation, where he acts as lead investigator. Using the skills he acquired through an
