Puerta de Esperanza is a home through MTW (Mission to the World) for adolescent single moms in La Ceiba, Honduras who

have very little or no support system. Some of our girls come from abusive situations, all of them come from broken family situations. Many were abandoned by their birth parents at a young age, and some have had to live on the streets. Our goal is to speak the truth of the Gospel clearly to these young women in the hopes that they will know Christ as their personal Savior and know that their only true hope is found in Him alone. Shannon Ordoez has been working with Puerta de Esperanza from the beginning. She and her family are committed to teaching these girls about Jesus and seeing them break a cycle of brokenness in their families. The Ordoez family is supported through the ministry. The Puerta de Esperanza house offers a place for young moms to go where they get to be part of a family. There are two house moms who really take on the roles of grandma and aunt. They help teach life skills like laundry, cooking, cleaning, and general responsibility, they also help with childcare. Each girl has to study something that will prepare them for a job that will enable them to provide for their family in the future when they leave the home. They are also working part time as they study in order to be able to learn how to budget, contribute to the costs of the home, and save money. They participate in the local church, have one-on-one Bible studies with Shannon, and are being discipled in their faith. Another main focus for us is raising children, the girls read, attend classes, and are actively taught by the house moms how to parent their children in a godly way and teach them the things of God. The goal is for the girls to learn how to live independent lives and after a period of two or three years transition them out of the home to live independently.
