How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
My music video and ancillary products do share a slightly similarly however because the digipak and advert were not exclusively designed for the single performed in our music video this therefore means that it shares its many differences too. Being a pop artist I wanted to make sure that I provided continuity throughout my media products to make our artist recognizable to her target audience which is why it was important that my media texts portrayed her in an appropriate and correct way.

MISE-EN-SCENE:
One of the very few similarities is that the style for my music artist had to be combined with both to create this simultaneous feel to them. The theme in which myself and my media partner, Sammy decided on was the inspiration of American pop, this theme I researched in several areas which helped me create this consistent style a lot easier for us.

Liv Wood Image 4 Since the style of our video was to be very glamorous as the genre was pop, we had to portray this style very well for it to correlate with our genre and theme. This is most clear throughout our music video as I used the mise-en-scene of the costumes in particular ways to convey this. The costume is an important convention in each ancillary task and music video. It determines how they may be received by the audience and how seriously they may be taken within the music industry. A way in which I did convey my theme and genre was by styling our artist in a bodycon polka dot dress. This was a feature that appeared in the majority of the clips. Meanwhile the other clips we decide to dress our artist in a more causal way but still using a simplistic outfit consisting of black plain leggings and a tunic top with a simple elegant flower pattern on it. (Evidence of these outfits Images 1 and 2) We decided to use simple plain outfits with no outstanding features or adds to them we chose this as we wanted the clothes to stand out the most as well as her hair and makeup. We decided not to use jewellery on our artist, this was because as mentioned before we wanted to keep the outfits plain to stand out the colours and draw no attention anywhere else. As well as this adding jewellery wouldve taken the focus of the colour and this is what we needed the focus on to make it stand out as our background was plain and simple white. Similarly for my ancillary tasks the digipak and album advert I again decided to use a plain black jumper however using bright bold red lipstick and her hair nicely presented it made these the eye capturing features that will stand out to the audience. The album advert shows a difference here as since the jumper was completely plain I felt it was necessary to add a light layer of jewellery, therefore I made her put on a very thin small gold chain to add another eye capturing feature. However this did not take the attention off her bold red lips or well-presented straight hair. (Evidence of these Image 3) Even though the variation of going from patterned outfits in the music video to no pattern at all throughout the ancillary tasks another reason would be purely because we had to illustrate the lyrics and dress our artist according to the sounding of the song and the lyrics written, likewise with this we had to add pattern as the background was so plain and finally the props used flowed well with the outfits we chose. As for my digipak the mise-en-scene used again was the same outfits used the in album advert. I knew a convention of an album advert and the actual album a lot of the time use the same images so that the audience know exactly what to look for if theyd have seen the advert out and about. Therefore this resulted in me developing and using this convention. Therefore my digipak has the same similarities and differences to the music video mise-en-scene wise and in the image used. Typography:
As for typography I used the same font that was on my digipak song list (Evidence of the typography on digipak Image 5) for the album advert (Evidence of the typography on album advert Image 6), this was to create that sense of similarity between both of the media products and impose that solid relationship. I thought that this was an effective choice as the front appears quite cute and hand written which had connotations of fun and bubbly which we wanted to reflect within Image 6

Liv Wood our video particularly referring to our spoof mick shots during the middle of the song. I could also edit this font type in different ways such as making bits bolder, I did this effect when doing the song list. As mentioned I found from my research that with album adverts and digipak tend to use the same convention such as the image used on the front cover as well as the font used. An example I found was Mikas The Boy Who Knew Too Much Album. He chose to use the exact same style of the CD case front cover to the album advert that was produced. (Evidence of Mikas album and album advert Image 7 and 8) By choosing to reating the asme font for the title of my artist was an effective choice as it would then create a brang image for the digipak and album advert. This was a common conventions I saw in all album adverts that I had analysed, if the image of the artist was not used for example Britney Spears Circus album, however the same typography and theme was used instead of the same image. This was the convention in which my album advert and digipak followed. I think that this creates an effective combination between the anicllary tasks as it reinforces the brand style in which I wanted to create.

Colour Tones and Features:

As for the colour tones and features that I used, I think that they were similar in some areas throughout my ancillary tasks being the album advert and digipak and even some things similar to the music video. An example of this could be that we decided to use a plain background within our music video in the end. (Evidence of our plain background Image 9) As you can see from this image and the evidence of our music video, we hired out a white background photography studio. Although it was specifically designed for photography only the area of the room was big enough for us to film all of our music video on. Linking this in with my ancillary products I also used a plain background photography wall to take my images. As stated previously I wanted a simple look that used props and bold colours to make my media products still appealing and effective. Therefore it made sense to use a plain background with one simple colour being white for the music video and an ivory background for my digipak. As the contrast of the white and ivory backgrounds were so blank looking it then therefore enhanced and complimented the purposely put in coloured features more such as the bright red lips within the ancillary texts and the costumes chosen for the music video. Below I have pointed out where in the images that you can see the colours really standing out against the backgrounds in my ancillary texts (Images 10, 11, 12) and music video. Image 16 Image 13 a background image that had cream running into blue rough looking image. I decided to use this as the cream/white colour space matched up to the CD front colour background. I chose these colours as I thought it was an eye capturing interesting flow of colours together. Likewise, the colours referred back to my theme of being simplistic and plain and therefore wanted this to run throughout the inside of the digipak as well. (Evidence of the blue and cream background colours Image 17) Similarly with this the part of the digipak that had all the information and writing on which told the audience who wrote it, produced it, recorded at etc. I chose to highlight those important roles in red. (Evidence of red text Image 18) The reason why I chose the red was it Image 14 Image 15 Image 18 On my a digipak I used contrast of

Liv Wood related back to the red lips which were on the front cover of the digipak and stood out as one of my bold colours. In the first place I chose red as it can be seeing as very appealing to any type of audience as it is very radiant and bold. Therefore I decided it would be best to have red lips instead of for example pink lips. (Evidence of relationship between red text and lips Image 19) On a whole I believe that I stuck with the same colours throughout all my digipak and video being red, blue and white. Not only did I choose to do these so they all matched but red and blue stand out very clear when against a white background. As well as this these are the colours that make up the American flag (Evidence of the colours in flag Image 20) This can refer back to my original planning of the music video as myself and Sammy decided on making it look bold with American features such as emphasising everything such as our big props and using bright colours. Below are images throughout our video where these colours come up and can reflect the colours of the American flag. (Evidence of red, white and blue shots Image 21, 22, 23, 24)

Throughout the music video we used confident, poised shot reflecting her personality and these shots are also reflected in the digipak and album advert. These shots represent her genre but due to the song choice being described as fairground pomp some of her actions were exaggerated and much stronger than some other shots taken for the digipak and album advert. Although our artist performed the narrative in the music video there was also many shots of her simply singing the song which I think shows a connection between the video and ancillary texts due to her glamour and innocent look.
