NEW THINGS IN MY BAG

In your daily communication, sometimes you have to describe things to give more information to the person we are talking with. You usually describe things by mentioning particular characteristic using adjectives. Do you know how to describe your things? Sometimes you read advertisements about lost and found item. The advertisements may be in the form of descriptive text because they mention the characteristic or the physical appearance of the lost/found item. When you lost your stationery, can you write such a text effectively? In this unit, you will learn how to do it through challenging task.

Task 2 Read the following text about electronic dictionary and guess the meanings of the words in the table according to the text. You may open your dictionary if necessary.

I have a great dictionary. It is an electronic dictionary. I always bring it when I go to school. The dictionary is square with blue color. It is about 8x10 cm in size. The screen is about 2.5x4.5 inch. It is a touch screen. I can use the dictionary by touching it with touch pen. It can translate 4 languages such as Indonesian, English, Japanese, and Chinese. My electronic dictionary is special because it has many features. Besides using it as a dictionary, I can use it as an mp3 player too. I can play many songs from it and listen to the songs using a headset. It also has some games. So, when I get bored, I can play the music or play the games.

Descriptions are usually organized to include: an introduction to the subject of description; characteristic features of the subject, e.g. physical appearance, qualities, significant attributes.
