SigmaPrime meeting the

Marine coatings are recognised as an integral factor in the service life and operational profitability of most forms of shipping and have become a crucial consideration, from the newbuilding design stages onwards. The success or failure of coatings in service can have a significant influence on a ships operational profitability and overall return on investment. Those responsible for coating selection have to carefully consider the coating choices needed for each specific vessel area, taking into account factors such as service conditions immersed, non-immersed, exposed, etc. as well as substrate type shop primer, steel, aluminium, etc.

An extended range of anticorrosives that match everyones agenda

SigmaPrime is the solution a unique range of multi-purpose anticorrosives that meet the demands of process speed and environmental compliance, without compromising the quality of service supplied to the global shipping industry. SigmaPrime is the result of Sigmas experience in formulating chemical resistance and anticorrosive epoxies over the last 30 years. Building on this technology, Sigma has extended the product range in answer to the evolving needs of shipyards, ship operators and regulatory bodies. Designed to simplify production at the newbuilding stage, while providing long-term performance in service, each one can be applied to virtually all vessel areas, in virtually all temperatures, all year round.

Range requirements of shipbuilding

The SigmaPrime range consists of high quality, multi-purpose epoxy anticorrosives that have been specifically designed to suit modern shipyard building practices and ensure excellent long-term corrosion protection. SigmaPrime is versatile enough to successfully coat virtually every part of a vessel. SigmaPrime is the latest in a series of innovative products from Sigma Marine Coatings, that break new ground and improve the way coating systems build-in effective vessel protection.

SigmaPrime making coatings more cost-effective

At Sigma Coatings, we understand that the growing pressure to improve cost efficiencies must never be at the expense of quality and service for shipbuilders worldwide. In response to this, Sigma has extended the SigmaPrime range of multi-purpose, high quality epoxy anticorrosives that will add real value for shipyards and ship operators alike. Each coating in the range has been specifically designed to be adaptable enough to meet the demanding criteria of modern shipbuilding practices. The range can all achieve the peak potential of long-term corrosion protection and comply with the latest regulatory demands. For the shipyard, the benefits of SigmaPrime are considerable. Above all, SigmaPrime offers a clear and simplified paint specification that is flexible and adaptable enough to cover a multitude of functions, reducing the number of coatings. This rationalisation to the coating process when using SigmaPrime means that one anticorrosive is applied to the entire block minimising disruption, thereby reducing downtime caused by cleaning equipment and switching primers. A reduction in the number of different coatings creates both economies of scale and minimises wastage. When consistently applying one product, applicators quickly become accustomed to the application friendly properties of SigmaPrime enabling them to increase speed and improve quality, reducing the need for subsequent touch-up and repairs.

Ship owners on-site will appreciate the benefits of a simplified specification, ensuring that the coating process is easier to follow and assess. In addition, the wide application window and userfriendly characteristics minimise disruptions and enhance quality. In-service, owners will enjoy long term anticorrosive protection with simplified maintenance specifications, leading to rationalised maintenance schemes and seastocks. Furthermore, the increase in overall coating quality will reduce the level of subsequent on-board maintenance costs.

Wherever you are, the qualitys world-class

The global nature of the shipping business requires supply worldwide. Supplying marine coatings to the shipping industry usually requires local manufacture, often using local raw materials. For coating systems in critical areas, it is vitally important these coatings are identical to those originally specified, together with track records and approvals (such as DNV/Marintek). The composition of the SigmaPrime range, regardless of production location, is strictly controlled and the SigmaPrime formulations have been fingerprinted* by the DNV laboratories in Bergen, Norway. By sampling the SigmaPrime supplied on site, customers can confirm against the fingerprint, that it conforms to the SigmaPrime originally tested and approved, ensuring a quality coating and long term performance.
* For further details and expectations about fingerprinting you should always contact Sigma Coatings.
