To solve a quadratic problem use the quadratic formula. First you substitute in the numbers into the equation. Then you solve for what is inside the parenthesis. Since you have a plus or minus, you solve for in two separate ways. In one you subtract and the other you add. Solving Quadratic Equations by Completing the Square

To complete the square you first isolate the variables. Next you would take half of the b and square it. Then you would add the number you got to both sides . After that you would factor to create a perfect square. Then you would square root both sides canceling out the root and the squared out leaving you with the solution to solve. The answer would be positive and negative.

To solve this problem you would have to read first what its asking you to solve or find. You would try to make sense of it and put it into an equation. Using the information given you should be able to replace the variables with the numbers. Once you have your equation you should be able to solve for it using the quadratic formula. You would just have to replace the variables with the numbers. Solve all the way through o get your answer.
